  • Motorola Z6w hits Fido for WiFi fun

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , GSM , EDGE If the 6301 from Nokia ain't your cup of tea, Fido has now added a second handset compatible with its Uno WiFi calling service. The new model is none other than Moto's Z6w slider, which continues the interesting choice of making Fido's WiFi lineup completely different than parent Rogers', which offers the BlackBerry Pearl and Nokia 6086 on its Talkspot service. When you're not around home, the Z6w offers quadband EDGE coverage, and the microSD slot plus Windows Media support and 2 megapixel camera should be enough to keep you at least mildly entertained. Grab the package now for $60 (about $57) CAD on a three-year deal. [Via MobileSyrup ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Bell finally launches LG Vantage

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Bell Mobility , EV-DO , CDMA Your yank friends south of the border know this one better as the Glimmer for Alltel (and soon for US Cellular ), but you Bell customers out there in Canada are finding this one in stores now as the Vantage . The Shine-esque slider stakes most of its reputation on a full touchscreen to augment the numeric keypad, but you also get EV-DO, GPS, stereo Bluetooth, and up to 4GB of expansion via microSD. Just be sure to bring your wallet, and preferably those of a couple friends: contract-free it'll run you $424.95 CAD (about $418), while a full three years of servitude gets that knocked down to a more palatable $199.95 CAD ($195). • Telus picks up the LG Venus

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Telus Mobility , EV-DO , CDMA Strong work, Telus! First you guys are pretty much on the ball with your release of the BlackBerry 8330 Curve and the Motorola Q9c , and now you've become the first Canadian carrier to offer the LG Venus -- and you're clearly reveling in it, too, since you point out on your product page that this is actually LG's first touchscreen phone in all of Canada. $99.99 CAD (about $100) of your customer's hard-earned savings is going to net them a 2 megapixel camera, QVGA primary display, microSD slot, GPS, EV-DO, and stereo Bluetooth, so we'd say you've done good -- for the moment, anyway. Keep up the strong work. [Thanks, Jesse] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Sony Ericsson W580i goes live on Rogers

Filed under: Handsets , Sony Ericsson , Rogers Wireless , GSM , GPRS , EDGE Rogers Wireless has rolled out the lovely W580i slider from Sony Ericsson, a Walkman-branded piece first introduced late in the first quarter of the year. Though data tops out at EDGE speeds (this is Sony Ericsson, after all), the handset offers an integrated FM radio, 2 megapixel cam, A2DP support, pedometer, and Memory Stick Micro expansion. Grab it now for $150 Canadian (about $142) on a three-year contract. [Via HowardChui.com ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • Telus adds Samsung u510, white Motorola KRZR

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Samsung , Telus Mobility , 1xRTT , EV-DO , CDMA We feel like we can barely tell the difference between the white KRZR from Moto and the original gray -- especially if you squint your eyes a bit -- but choice is always good nonetheless, and to that end Telus has added the paler variant to its lineup. Going toe to toe with the K1m in the high-fashion game, Samsung's u510 has also found its way onto the CDMA carrier ( look familiar? ) with a 220 x 176 display, 1.3 megapixel cam, microSD slot -- something its Helio doppelganger lacks -- and touch-sensitive controls. Grab your white KRZR for the same price as its grayer counterpart, $149 CDN -- or a u510 for $50 CDN less, $100, both on a three-year agreement.
