  • Samsung intros the snoozefest J800 Luxe and L700 cellphones

Filed under: Handsets , Samsung , Symbian , HSDPA It looks like the folks at Samsung are keeping the fires burning with a batch of new handsets announced at the Singapore Telecommunications Exhibition. First on the block is the 3G, J800 Luxe slider, a mid-range phone with a 2.2-inch 176 x 200 display, two megapixel camera, FM tuner, A2DP support, and a slot for microSD cards. The electronics-maker is also offering the L700, a fairly unexciting candybar with a 2.1-inch screen, HSDPA, a choice of colors (pink, silver, and gold), and pretty much all the other features listed for the previous phone. The most interesting offering from this set is the Symbian-based L870 that we've seen previously , which the company claims is still on target for its August release. No word on pricing or release dates for the two new models, however. [Thanks, Craig] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • T-Mobile's entire 3G lineup gets handled

Filed under: Handsets , Nokia , Samsung , T-Mobile , GSM , EDGE , UMTS T-Mobile's still doing its darndest to keep its fragmented 3G network launch on the DL -- the carrier can't deliver a wide footprint just yet, and it look like it doesn't want to put customers under the false impression that it can. A great way to make sure no one cares about your high-speed handsets is to make sure they're all totally anonymous, low- to midrange devices with minimum shelf appeal, and what can we say, T-Mobile? Mission accomplished! PC Magazine has devoted some quality time to checking out all four of the 3G models currently offered -- the 3555 and 6263 from Nokia along with the t819 and t639 from Samsung -- and it looks like they've managed to develop a really potent power user repellent with the lineup. The 6263 scrapes by with the most generous review of the review, but even it is hampered by a lack of HSDPA (meaning 3G data's capped at a theoretical 384kbps) and a measly 1.3 megapixel camera. Clearly, T-Mobile wants these phones viewed in exactly the same light as the remainder of its consumer-class models, and we'll give 'em that much, they've done a bang-up job in that regard. Maybe too good, in fact. Read - Nokia 3555 Read - Samsung t819 Read - Nokia 6263 Read - Samsung t639 Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Nokia 3600 Slide putting fashionable techies at ease

Nokia is no stranger to funky mobile phone designs, so I guess it shouldn’t surprise us to know that they’re trying alternative materials for the construction of their latest handsets as well. The Nokia 3600 Slide, other than being made of a glossy outer casing with gradated colors, will also be covered with soft ceramic [...]
  • T-Mobile's 3G portfolio gains momentum, Samsung t819 next

Filed under: Handsets , Samsung , T-Mobile , GSM , EDGE , UMTS We're starting to sense a trend here -- much like T-Mobile's Hotspot @Home lineup , the carrier's nascent 3G lineup is quickly getting filled with bland, anonymous handsets that prevent power users from really getting into the tech. Then again, maybe that's exactly the idea: keep the really big, important initiatives in the hands of perfectly average users that won't be stressing it too hard before popping for the serious hardware. Anyway, here's the SGH-T819 from Samsung, a WCDMA 1700 slider that keeps things low-key with a relatively unremarkable design and a 1.3 megapixel cam for the occasional candid shot. It'll likely be T-Mobile's first 3G slider, but let's be honest -- the lion's share of buyers won't even know what magical goodies lie beneath that blue plastic. No word on a release date or pricing for the t819 just yet. [Via phoneArena and CellPhoneSignal ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • First pics of AT&T Samsung 737 slider-phone

It looks like Samsung is bringing yet another 3G phone to AT&T’s stable. Phone Arena managed to get their hands on the first pics of the newest Samsung 3G slider to hit AT&T. The Samsung SGH-737 will complement AT&T’s recently released Ultra Edition SGH-717 and Ultra Edition SGH-727 clamshell and candybar phones. However, unlike the previous 3G entries, the Samsung 737 won’t be thin enough to carry the Ultra Edition moniker - but it’s still pretty slim for a slider phone. We’re expecting the 737 to be a music-oriented phone (judging by the music-shortcut-key next to the conspicuous red dial on the front face) and 3G UMTS (likely HSDPA). We’re diggin’ the red/black color combo, and the cool red accents really make this slider-phone shine. Hopefully, we’ll see the same 3 megapixel autofocus shooter that the European Samsung D900 and U600 get. We’ll bring you more details as they emerge. This thing definitely looks like a 3G-winner. • Nokia N95 with American 3G gets FCC'd!

Filed under: Handsets , Nokia , Symbian , GSM , GPRS , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS We're speechless. In fact, we think we might cry -- but rest assured, they're tears of joy. Rumors of a Nokia N95 packing American HSDPA have been spreading like wildfire as of late, and we're ecstatic to see that they were totally true. Though this sucker gets down with the 850 and 1900MHz bands, it doesn't get in on the 1700MHz action, suggesting that if the T-Mobile rumor is still true, this ain't it. Though arguably not quite as attractive as the decidedly non-US 8GB N95 in black that we saw this morning, this phone's innards are pretty much the most beautiful thing we've seen all day. Nokia, we turn the floor over to you to answer questions about pricing and availability. [Via Wirelessinfo.com ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • Samsung's HSDPA-enabled SPH-W2400 does DMB TV

Filed under: Handsets , Sanyo , GSM , HSDPA Samsung's SPH-W2400, which we spotted a month or so ago thanks to the FCC, finally has a face and a few more details to boot. The snazzy Anycall-built slider sports a unique rotating screen, DMB TV tuner, a two-megapixel camera, MP3 player, Bluetooth, microSD slot, TV out, language translation software, and HSDPA connectivity. Best of all, it appears that this phone will basically work in every corner of the modern world, but sadly, we've no idea where you'll actually find one for sale nor how much you'll be asked to cough up for it once you do.
