Still waiting patiently for Nokia to go live with the famed successor to the uber-popular top-of-the-line N-series handset? Sure you are - we're all waiting for Nokia to drop the Nokia N96-bomb. • Nokia N95 NAM gets firmware update - Nokia N95-3 gets firmware 20.02.011

The heralded Nokia N95 North American edition (NAM) already gets props for its multimedia capabilities, most notably its high-end imaging prowess. And, with this latest software update from Nokia, the Nokia N95 NAM (aka Nokia N95-3) gets the same added features and performance gains that its European counterpart (Nokia N95-1) has enjoyed for some time [...]
  • Nokia promotes end of N-Gage beta with free game offering

Mobile gaming is about to get a little more exciting. At least if you own one of Nokia's N-series devices (N81, N82, N95) that will play nice with Nokia's N-Gage gaming platform. Until now, Espoo has limited the fun of N-Gage gaming to beta testers with Nokia N81 handsets. In return for making the N-Gage plunge [...]
  • Nokia N95 advertisement shows slightly tweaked design

The boys over at Engadget Mobile spotted this interesting advert on Yahoo! today. Like so many yuppy mid-lifers that have gone under the knife in search of vanity and youth, the Nokia N95 you see pictured here just looks a bit strange. It’s an N95, that much we’re sure of. But, take a look at the edges of the device - they look strangely beveled for some reason. Clicking on the ad takes you to Nokia’s USA Nokia N95 page, so we’re assuming the “8GB expandable memory” claim is referring to the microSD card slot. The Nokia N95 8GB NAM should be an all-black handset without a microSD card slot, so this ad is most likely referring to the already-launched Nokia N95-3. Sloppy advertising aside, what’s with the tweaked look of this Nokia N95-3? • US spec Nokia N95-3 gets firmware update

It’s not the major-ish firmware update that the European spec Nokia N95-1 got a little while back , but the more recently launched US version of the Nokia N95 - designated the N95-3 - just got its own firmware update. The new firmware Version 11.2.009 is ready to rock on all American Nokia N95’s - the updated bits include a new fonts and history list for the browser. We’re not sure just what the other changes are, but we’ll keep an eye out for you guys. If you stumble across any other changes in this new firmware, leave a comment, will ‘ya? • Apple iPhone outsells LG Prada, HTC Touch, Nokia N95 in Europe

If there’s one thing that gets people riled up more than details on how well the iPhone is selling, it’s news that the iPhone is out-selling the Nokia N95 in Europe. The iPhone clearly outsells these handsets in the US, but Europe has been regarded as a reluctant market for the iPhone, given it’s lack of critical hardware features. We previously mentioned that the iPhone has shown disappointing sales figures in the UK, but it seems that even “ laggard ” iPhones sales on UK’s O2 network are still outselling rivals. In fact, all three European markets are reportedly seeing sales of the iPhone outpacing those of its closest, and highly subsidized, competitors - a group that includes the HTC Touch , LG Prada, Nokia N95, and Nokia’s E-Series handsets. Michael Abramsky, an analyst with RBC Capital, is reporting that iPhone sales in the UK, Germany and France have proven strong. He notes “solid European iPhone momentum,” adding that the “iPhone appears to be an early hit with European Smartphone consumers.” Despite selling only 10,000 iPhones on launch day , many of T-Mobile’s 700 German retail stores are reporting 15-20 iPhone sales per week. France’s Orange Wireless, by far the iPhone’s strongest EU market , has reported that approximately 63,000 customers have registered their interest in the iPhone, with reports of some Orange stores running out of iPhone-stock. Most notably, and sure to draw the ire of Nokia fans (especially those with Nokia N95’s - the author excluded), the iPhone has been outselling the feature-packed Nokia N95 in Europe - which has sold 1 million handsets since its launch in March (not a sluggish seller, to be sure). Keep in mind that the iPhone is still only available in three European markets (at least officially) and has largely been sold on-contract and locked to a particular carrier. All these factors led Mr. Abramsky to raise his previous forecast for Apple to...
  • Apple iPhone bests Nokia N95, HTC Touch in usability study

So, there’s this Texas-based usability consulting firm called Perceptive Sciences. They just released the results of a test that put the Apple iPhone heads-up with the Nokia N95 and HTC Touch in a usability battle. The winner? Apple iPhone. The results are sure to rile up the iPhone-haters out there, but the results speak for themselves. Perceptive Sciences conducted the test with only 10 participants. The subjects had never used the iPhone, N95, or Touch and were asked to make a phone call, set the phone to vibrate, add a number to the contacts list, take a picture, and send an email. Scientists recorded how long it took to complete each task and ranked each trial with a score between 1 and 5. The iPhone earned a score of 4.6, the HTC Touch nabbed a 3.6, while the Nokia N95 only got a 3.2. Testers were [typically] about twice as fast doing specific tasks on the iPhone, which is pretty remarkable,” said senior research scientist Tom Thornton. It should be noted that the iPhone trumped the N95 in all categories except “functionality.” With GPS, 3G, and a 5megapixel camera, we’re not surprised. Got something to say about this test? • Nokia N95 with US 3G support coming in September!

Nokia’s on a press junket craze like no other recently. The Nokia N81 , the Nokia N95 8GB Black , all those Nokia accessories, and not to mention the Nokia 5310 and 5610 Xpress Music Phones - it’s a lot in such a short timeframe. We’ve barely had time to process the results of the Nokia GoPlay event in London and we’re getting word that the US-spec Nokia N95 is headed for Yankee shores next month! That’s right folks, the N95 with US-friendly 3G frequency support (850/1900Mhz) is bound for your favorite 3G GSM provider (read: AT&T) Unfortunately, T-Mobile and their 1700Mhz 3G frequency is a definite no-go. We already saw the Nokia N95 US pass through the FCC’s testing regimen , so it was only a matter of time before this beauty hit American airwaves - but who knew it would be mere weeks after all this product launch craziness. For those of you that were patient enough to hold off on pulling the trigger on an unlocked European Nokia N95, you’ll be happy to hear that the US-spec N95 will not only rock its HSDPA radio on US 3G spectrum, but will sport a bumped up battery (up to 1200mAh), 100% more RAM (128MB, up from 64MB), a recessed camera lens to help protect those amazing Carl Zeiss optics. And, don’t forget, the N95 is still packin’ that integrated GPS, WiFi, stereo Bluetooth, and TV-out. Sadly, the 8GB capacity or 2.8 inch screen isn’t in the cards for the US. But, getting the GPS-equipped N95 on US 3G networks is enough for us. • Nokia N95 8GB Black glamor shots from London's Nokia GoPlay Launch Event

That’s it, it’s official. No more speculation and rumor about the 8GB Nokia N95 Black - it’s for real, in the flesh and ready to pull duty as Nokia’s flagship. We remember way back when the 8GB N95 was just a glimmer in an enthusiast’s eye , it’s come a long way. As we all expected , the new N95 sports a badass black finish. If looks could kill, the Black N95 8GB would be a Dessert Eagle .44 - it’s not the smallest or slickest design out there, but damn if it doesn’t pack a wallop. The Nokia N95 8GB Black only differs from the vanilla-flavored N95 in the exterior finish and the bump in internal flash memory capacity. But, when we’re dealing with a 5 megapixel Carl Zeiss camera, WiFi, GPS, microSD card slot, TV-out, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, and 2.8 inch display, there’s not much that could be improved (except maybe the laggy response and short battery life?). So, in exchange for bragging rights and big-boy-on-the-block status, you’ll have to shill out €560 ($761) for this here N95 8GB Black - expect it in Europe soon with a US delivery in October. Hey, you gotta pay to play, and with this little baby, it’s totally worth it. Read on for more glamor shots to make your silver Nokia N95 turn green with jealous envy. • US-bound Nokia N95 approved by FCC

All those people lamenting the lack of US 3G frequency support on the Nokia N95 can rest easy. Our good, old friend, the FCC , has just given the thumbs-up approval for the American version of the Nokia N95. The US-spec N95 will be packin’ the same quad-band (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) GSM/EDGE radio, 5 megapixel Carl Zeiss camera, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, stereo Bluetooth, GPS, microSD slot, and Symbian S60 platform as it’s European brethren - but with one major difference. This baby will work on the US’s odd-ball 3G frequencies with it’s dual-band 850/1900Mhz WCDMA radio. The FCC’s approval of the run-of-the-mill (if you want to refer to the 5 megapixel Carl Zeiss optics and GPS as run-of-the-mill) Nokia N95 was a bit overshadowed by the FCC leak of the 8GB Black Nokia N95 , but it’s an important development nonetheless. That’s good and bad. It’s great news for all those US residents that have waited this long for the America-specific Nokia N95 to finally reach our shores - we’re sure this news has all of you jumping for joy. But, if you’re one of the gotta-have-it gadget aficionados that jumped the gun and ponied up for an imported Euro-spec Nokia N95, you’ll be sad to hear that we’ll soon have a fully-functional 3G radio on the US-spec N95. Bummer. Still, nothing else has changed, so it’s not that bad. (But damned if 3G wouldn’t round out the Nokia N95’s feature-set nicely, in the US that is) FCC source [Via: Phone Scoop ] ---Related Articles at IntoMobile:Nokia N95 starts shippingNokia 8600 approved by the FCCNokia N76, N95 approved by the FCCFCC just approved the Sony Ericsson M610i … again; is it codename Elena or Lizzy?Thank you for submitting news about the E65 getting approved by the FCC but it isn't exactly blog worthy
  • Apple iPhone web-apps run on Nokia phones too!

In an interesting twist of mobile phone irony, it seems that Nokia phones are able to run the iPhone-only web-apps that are designed to work only on the iPhone’s Safari browser. You see, the Nokia Series 60 browser uses the same base code as the Mobile Safari browser. So, where’s the twist of irony? Well, it seems that iPhone web-apps will not only run on the iPhone, but on the arch-rival Nokia N95. Not to mention that the interoperability of these web-apps should spur even more iPhone web-apps based on previously developed Series 60 apps. We think the fact that two blood-enemies like the iPhone and N95 can share such similar roots (cough…kinda like religion…cough). Now, seeing as how our apps can play nice, can’t all iPhone and N95 users just get along? Oh, and world peace would be nice. • Nokia: Watch out for those jealous laptops - they're dangerous with envy

Nokia’s marketing department deserves a round of applause for their newest act of advertising genius. Rather than go toe-to-toe with the incredible iPhone buzz-machine, Nokia opted to go the comedy route for their N95 - a damn good decision, if you ask us. Playing on the Nokia N95’s role as the multimedia computer, the ads warn of jealous laptops attacking their once loyal users - apparently laptops don’t like competition. You know it’s funny when you bust out laughing…and you’re all alone. The “JEALOUSCOMPUTERS.com | A Global Warning” campaign is so hilarious, it’s good (and the other way around). Check out the victim reports, instructional videos, and “medical pictures from a doctor’s office” at jealouscomputers.com - they’re a riot! There’s also a good amount of downloads for Nokia fans, so make sure to get your fix.
