  • Rogers gets rugged with Motorola VA76r

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Rogers Wireless , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Mil-spec (and mil-spec-esque) hardware seems to be all the rage lately, so Motorola was more than happy to oblige when Rogers asked for some rough-looking gear to slot into its lineup. Meet the VA76r , a beefy set that'll take pretty much all the drops, dirt, and spills you can throw its way and keeps things rockin' on the data side with triband HSDPA. You've also got a QVGA display, Bluetooth, 2-megapixel cam, and microSD expansion; the $199.99 CAD (about $194) you're going to pay on a three-year contract isn't the cheapest we've ever heard, but for those that need this kind of toughness (you know who you are), it's probably worth the cost of admission. No word on a US release, but we suspect Moto would love to launch this sucker on AT&T to do battle with Samsung's Rugby. [Via MobileSyrup ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Rogers' Q3 lineup revealed?

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Sony Ericsson , Rogers Wireless , Windows Mobile , HP , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Dealer documentation seemingly intended for Rogers dealers has, of course, leaked out onto the interwebs, possibly revealing the entirety of the carrier's third quarter offerings. With the exception of the Bold and KickStart / Pearl 8220, there's nothing terribly mind-blowing in the mix, though the lineup does include a pretty healthy range of goodies from the low end to the reasonably high. Highlights include the Sony Ericsson W350a music flip, a phone we've already seen meandering about in AT&T livery , so it comes as little surprise that we'd see it up north as well; the iPAQ 910c Windows Mobile smartphone from HP; and a refreshed RAZR 2 that'll probably mirror the V9x . All of these chewy technological morsels launch (in theory, anyway) by the end of September, which really only serves to makes us wonder: what's on tap up there for the holiday season? • Motorola RAZR 2 V9m in the mix for Virgin Mobile Canada

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Virgin Mobile , EV-DO , CDMA In case you hadn't noticed, Virgin Mobile rocks an ever-so-slightly higher end lineup north of the border than it does in the US, and to that end, it's just released the RAZR 2 V9m . We all know the drill here by now: 2 inch external QVGA display with music controls, 2.2 inch internal QVGA display, stereo Bluetooth, EV-DO, microSD expansion, and a 2 megapixel camera, all of which are ready to sit just above the KRZR in Virgin's stable. Grab it now for $149 CAD (about $147) on a three-year deal. [Via Mobile In Canada ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Fido wakes up, remembers to offer Motorola RAZR 2 V9

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Hello, Fido! Welcome to, oh, about two months ago. We know that you live in Rogers' ginormous shadow , but let's try to be more on the ball, k? From the looks of your RAZR 2 product page, you're still a little sleepy, too: "Cristal [sic] Talk" isn't how Moto spells it -- and as curious as we are about "pear to peer gaming," we're pretty sure you meant "peer to peer." Anyhoo, unlike Rogers' V9, it looks like Fido is getting the same pinkish color scheme that AT&T is rocking -- for better or for worse -- and features the usual V9 goodness: HSDPA, A2DP, a 2 megapixel cam, microSD expansion, and so on. Speaking of microSD, Fido throws a 2GB card into the deal, but being a couple months behind the bleeding edge doesn't come cheap -- it'll run $150 on a three-year contract after $125 rebate. • Telus gets the Motorola RAZR 2, too

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Telus Mobility , EV-DO , CDMA Seriously, are there any North American carriers left at this point that don't carry the RAZR 2? Yeah, we know there are a few that still don't, but wow, we've gotta admit we're impressed with Motorola's ability to seal the deal here. Telus' version of the V9m appears identical to Alltel's , featuring a dark blue shell, GPS, EV-DO, microSD expansion, and a 2 megapixel cam. Telus naturally bundles its full suite of ARPU-enhancing goodies like Telus Mobile Radio and Mobile TV -- so if you think the $249.99 CAD (about $265) you're paying upfront on a three-year contract is the only way Telus is going to make some coin off of ya, you're dead wrong. • Telus adds Samsung u510, white Motorola KRZR

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Samsung , Telus Mobility , 1xRTT , EV-DO , CDMA We feel like we can barely tell the difference between the white KRZR from Moto and the original gray -- especially if you squint your eyes a bit -- but choice is always good nonetheless, and to that end Telus has added the paler variant to its lineup. Going toe to toe with the K1m in the high-fashion game, Samsung's u510 has also found its way onto the CDMA carrier ( look familiar? ) with a 220 x 176 display, 1.3 megapixel cam, microSD slot -- something its Helio doppelganger lacks -- and touch-sensitive controls. Grab your white KRZR for the same price as its grayer counterpart, $149 CDN -- or a u510 for $50 CDN less, $100, both on a three-year agreement.
