  • Is Motorola's ROKR EM35 the VE66?

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola Unless our eyes are doing some remarkable deceiving (and trust us, they've been known to work unwanted miracles before), this here ROKR EM35 is a colored version of the VE66 we spotted late last month. Very, very little details are given -- just that it's rockin' a 320 x 240 resolution display, a 3.5-millimeter headphone jack, a built-in multimedia player / music shortcut keys and the FastScroll navigation keys. Hit the read link for a few more looks. [Thanks, Antony P.] Is Motorola's ROKR EM35 the VE66? originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Tue, 04 Nov 2008 12:30:00 EST. • Motorola's VE75 slider invades China

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Linux , GSM , EDGE Nothing says "I love you" like sending every single one of your hot new handset models your way, and that's pretty much the beautiful romance that's going on between Moto and China as of late. The A1600 , A1800 , and A810 have all induced various levels of lust from outsiders who can't get their paws on 'em (not yet, anyway), and now we've got another little bundle of Linux-powered joy to drool over, the VE75 slider. It'll happily swallow a pair of SIMs (as so many Asian market handsets tend to do) and offers EDGE data, a 2 megapixel camera, WQVGA display, and microSD slot. It'll be available -- and we use the term "available" loosely until a more global announcement is made -- in black and white. [Via Unwired View ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Motorola A810 gets official in MING series' shadow

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Linux , GSM The new A1600 and A1800 out of Moto's touchy MING series have already been fully outed, but it turns out Moto wants to bundle a third touchscreen Linux piece in there to make a complete set: the A810, which goes to retail without that MING name attached. In the press release, Motorola comes right out and calls it "entry-level" -- and considering that the 2 megapixel camera and polarizing styling fall well short of the more elegant, luxuriously appointed MINGs, that's no big shocker. It's available in black and white, features an integrated 3.5mm headphone jack, and is available now in Chinese retailers. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Motorola A1800 live on Motorola's Chinese site

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Linux , GSM , CDMA One-half of Motorola's refreshed MING line over in China, the A1800 , has made its official entrance. Like the A1600 and the original A1200, the A1800's main claims to fame are a Linux-based operating system, full touchscreen, and a trick translucent flip that doubles as an earpiece. Where the phone does one better than its siblings, though, is with support for both CDMA and GSM networks -- albeit with nothing more than 1xRTT and GPRS data, respectively. Other goodies include a 3 megapixel autofocus cam, GPS, and big, heapin' scoops of envy from the rest of the world's citizenry. [Via Boy Genius Report ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Motorola L800t gets FCC blessing on way to China's TD-SCDMA

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , GSM , EDGE Remember that rumored L800t that got outed as part of Motorola's Asian lineup for '08 not long ago? We still can't really confirm that it's called the L800t, but we can confirm that the device itself is real thanks to an FCC approval -- and really, that's all that matters, isn't it? This unassuming candybar should mark Moto's first foray into China's budding TD-SCDMA network that hopes to eventually blanket the country's metropolitan areas with a proprietary form of 3G. The next question, naturally, is why the phone has found its way into American labs when it'll be biding its time over in Beijing, and the answer is pretty simple: we've got EDGE data on the 1900MHz band here, so theoretically, it could be used (with reduced performance) in the States -- just don't expect any high-speed action out of it. • Evidence builds for Motorola's 2008 lineup

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , GSM New leaks out of China are consistent with previous rumors, suggesting that Motorola's 2008 phalanx of mobiles is starting to gel -- for the Asia region, anyway, and there's really no knowing whether we'll see any of these stateside. Both of the new MINGs are pictured here, bearing the A1600 and A1800 model designations as expected; the big difference seems to be dual SIM support in the A1800, along with revised styling. Speaking of dual SIM, the VE75 slider will do 'em too, adding a 2 megapixel camera and a generously sized 2.6 inch WQVGA display. The long-rumored 5 megapixel product of Moto's cooperation with Kodak, the so-called ZN5, gets pictured here as well; at first glance we can't say we're impressed, but let's not dive too deep into it seeing how the picture is the size of a fricking thimble. Finally, we learn that Moto's jumping on the TD-SCDMA bandwagon quite early, working to pump out the L800t candybar; the 220 x 176 resolution isn't going to blow anyone away, but hey, at least it'll blaze across the interwebs at the Olympics this summer. Maybe . [Via Unwired View ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Why wait for the launch? Motorola MING 2 being sold in China

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Linux , GSM First seen last year and rumored for a Q2 '08 release , it seems like some impatient individuals in the Far East (where the handset is presumably made) decided to take matters into their own hands and have a little "launch" of their own, if you will, with a prototype unit that fell just a little too far from the manufacturing facility's tree. Unwired View turned up this A1600 MING 2 for sale in Shenzen, China, offering a fabulous glimpse at the Linux-based MING successor; turns out she sports WiFi, a 3.2 megapixel camera, and integrated GPS. Add world-band HSDPA, Motorola, and our money is yours. Honest. Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • Motorola, China Mobile ink $394M in deals

Filed under: Motorola When profits are in the dump, there's nothing to boost your bottom line quite like a massive deal inside one of the world's most fertile GSM growth markets. Motorola has scored a handful of deals with China Mobile worth a grand total of $394 million, surely music to the ears of beleaguered Moto execs who've been dealing with flagging sales from their handset division all year long . While it's not quite as juicy as the $1 billion deal Ericsson signed with the very same carrier a couple months back, the deal basically covers the same type of stuff -- back end equipment to help shore up China Mobile's insane expansion to help blanket China's one billion-plus population in airwaves. There's a catch here -- it turns out some 60 percent of the deal was already "recognized" as revenue in the first half -- but hey, 40 percent of $394 mil is still a pretty penny.
