  • Sidekick Slide discontinued

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , T-Mobile , Danger , GSM , EDGE Seems like just yesterday we were huddled in excited discussion over what sort of equipment Motorola had to contribute to the Hiptop world -- and if you've blinked recently, you may have missed it altogether. The Sidekick Slide has now been dropped from T-Mobile's lineup -- likely in response to the recent release of the Sidekick -- now moving on to join the iD in Danger purgatory. Stock of Moto's sole Danger-powered handset has already dried up online; the carrier tells us that there should still be "limited quantities" in stores across the land, but there's no telling how long that's going to last, so get 'em while you can, if you're into that sort of thing. • Motorola adds EM25, EM28, and EM30 to ROKR series

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , T-Mobile , GSM , EDGE Moving just a tad downmarket from the mighty morphin' E8 , Moto has rolled out three new members of its music-centric ROKR series today: the EM25 slider, EM28 flip, and EM30 candybar. The EM30 probably feels the most familiar, aping the E8's design language but trashing the touch-sensitive wheel for a plain ol' d-pad. It does, however, carry over the E8's so-called ModeShift morphing keypad and features an FM radio with RDS, 3.5mm headphone jack, and Windows Media compatibility. The EM28 brings the same style to a clamshell, while the EM25 reps the slider form factor. We're seeing some shots of a T-Mobile branded EM30 in here, too, so it looks like the carrier wants something to slot in right below the E8 in its Moto lineup -- a wise move, considering the E8's considerable expense. Look for the EM30 to launch first in Taiwan (sorry, T-Mob) followed by other markets later in the quarter, while the EM25 and EM28 should launch on a more global scale in the coming weeks. • Verizon launches Motorola Adventure V750 with Rev. A push-to-talk support

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Verizon Wireless , EV-DO , CDMA Verizon has gone ahead and jumped its own gun by a week, launching the rugged Adventure V750 today for a penny under $100 on contract after rebates. The phone becomes the very first on Verizon's network to support Rev. A-based push-to-talk, a quantum leap in robustness and functionality over the older 1xRTT fare; the G'zOne Boulder is expected in the next few weeks, bringing Big Red a pair of durable units that should appeal to the typical PTT crowd. Buyers of the V750 can expect a 2 megapixel camera, external music controls, microSD expansion, GPS, and of course EV-DO Rev. A data, so it's a pretty well-spec'd setup considering its lot in life. • Motorola announces ZN200 slider in Brazil

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , GSM , EDGE , UMTS The second model in Motorola's new ZINE line -- the ZN200 slider -- has officially broken cover, though it's with a whole hell of a lot less fanfare than the first . There are plenty of reasons for that noticeably lower-key intro, of course; a less-than-spellbinding design and unremarkable 2 megapixel camera (with no Kodak branding to be found, mind you) are the two standouts that come immediately to our attention, and the 30MB of on-board storage isn't helping the case, either. It should be launching in Brazil alongside the Z10 for $499 in your choice of black or pink, and Moto'll throw in a 1GB memory card for that price, too, just 'cause they like ya. • T-Mobile announces Motorola ROKR E8

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , T-Mobile , GSM , EDGE As expected , T-Mobile has taken the wraps off its very own version of Motorola's ROKR E8 , a glossy black candybar offering a 2 megapixel camera, 2GB of internal storage (plus a microSD slot that'll swallow up to 8GB more), stereo Bluetooth, 3.5mm headphone jack, FM radio, and that so-called "morphing" keypad that selectively renders keys invisible depending on the mode you're using. It's missing 3G, but that's one feature T-Mobile customers are all too well acquainted to missing out on -- and considering that the just-announced flagship ZN5 doesn't even do any WCDMA, it shouldn't come as any surprise. Subscribers and would-be subscribers will be able to nab the E8 come July 7 for $199.99 on contract. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Motorola announces MOTOZINE ZN5

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Linux , GSM , EDGE Hints of Motorola's new MOTOZINE series of devices have gone back as far as last year , but today marks the first time that Moto's officially spilled any beans on the goods. The headlining feature on the first model, the ZN5 candybar, lies on the backside: a 5-megapixel sensor courtesy of a partnership with Kodak , featuring autofocus, a xenon flash, image stitching, and on-device integration with Kodak Gallery. Otherwise, you get WiFi (score), Motorola's so-called "ModeShift" technology for morphing the keypad depending on device mode ( a la the E8 ), and a run-of-the-mill quadband GSM radio with EDGE. China's the first country to get the hookup starting next month, but Moto expects to take the ZN5 on a world tour over the course of the remainder of the year. • Sprint posts Windows Mobile 6.1 update for Motorola Q9c

Filed under: Software , Motorola , Windows Mobile That's right, lucky Q9c owners on Sprint are among the very first in the world to get an official Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade. Feels good, doesn't it? Bask in the copy / paste functionality, threaded SMS, and Getting Started guide (which contains probably little to no information you didn't already know, you experienced user, you) while your friends are all still stuck at 6.0. Be sure to play it up; flash the messaging application at every opportunity in public situations, and just generally make them feel bad for having chosen a [insert device here] over your beloved Moto. It's okay to gloat a little at times like this, trust us. [Via Everything Motorola Q ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • T-Mobile rolls out Sidekick Slide Scarlet

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , T-Mobile , Danger , GSM , EDGE As expected , Motorola and T-Mobile have materialized a new variant of the Sidekick Slide , replacing that rather polarizing shade of purple with... well, an equally polarizing shade of red. The Sidekick Slide Scarlet, as it's known, features the same QVGA display, 1.3 megapixel cam, microSD slot, and Hiptop-first sliding display as the original and is available starting today for $199.99 on contract. • Verizon surprises no one with XV6900, Motorola Q9c, and LG enV(2)

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , LG , Motorola , Verizon Wireless , Windows Mobile , EV-DO , CDMA Well, here are three that we didn't see coming or anything -- Verizon has officially announced the Motorola Q9c, LG enV(2), and HTC-sourced XV6900 today, all for April availability. The Moto Q9c is a more business-savvy version of the consumer-focused Q9m that was launched on Verizon late last year, with the carrier playing up the new model's VZ Navigator support, Windows Mobile 6 Standard load (yippee?), and -- unfortunately for those whose companies distrust photography -- a 1.3 megapixel camera. This one will launch for $249.99 after rebate on a two-year plan. Next up we have the enV(2) -- a phone we mistakenly identified previously as the enV2 because we just never could've seen those bonus parenthesis coming -- which succeeds the wildly popular enV and injects a fresh dose of industrial design. Features include a 2 megapixel cam, 2.4 inch internal display accompanied by a smaller screen up front that's just big enough for doing calling duty, microSD slot, and the flip-up QWERTY keyboard the enV series is famous for. It'll run $129.99 after rebate on contract when it launches next month. Finally, the XV6900 brings Verizon in line with Sprint's Touch , though in a far paler shade. It features the full host of Windows Mobile 6 Professional goodies alongside a 2 megapixel camera, microSD slot, 256MB of ROM, 128MB of RAM, Bluetooth, and HTC's TouchFLO interface. Like the others, it's slated for April availability and will run $349.99 on contract after $50 rebate. • Motorola's president of Mobile Devices business peaces out

Is that an exodus we smell, or what? Nary 24 hours after Motorola's chief marketing officer decided to start his weekend early by parting ways with the company, along comes word that the (now-former) president of Motorola's Mobile Devices business is doing the same. According to a breaking release from Moto, Stu Reed's departure is "effective immediately," and Greg Brown, company president and CEO, made mention that the outfit "appreciates [his] many contributions and wishes him the best in the future." As of now, there's no word on who's lined up fill Mr. Reed's shoes, but it seems the pool of choices could be dwindling. Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • Motorola ROKR E8 coming to T-Mobile!

Filed under: Handsets , T-Mobile , GSM , EDGE Quick: Motorola launches a music phone with a heap of internal memory, quadband GSM / EDGE, and no 3G. What American carrier is most likely to show some interest in picking up something like that ? That's right: we've stumbled across shots of the ROKR E8 , in all its mighty morphin' glory, bearing T-Mobile's mark (and obligatory myFaves logo) across the rear. The spec sheet really isn't much different from the carrier's 2GB RAZR 2 V8, but we suspect the glossy candybar is just glamorous and different enough to attract some business from the window-shopping crowd. We'll post an update if we catch any word on pricing or availability. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • Motorola W755 and a pair of Nokias come to light for Verizon

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Nokia , Verizon Wireless , EV-DO , CDMA It's no secret that Nokia's looking to make a bigger splash in the US market than it has the past few years -- and we also know that a CDMA and EV-DO-equipped Nokia passed the FCC not long ago -- so it comes as only a mild surprise to see a pair of 'em in the wild flush with Verizon branding. The 2605 and 7205 (pictured) are two flips that seem to turn up the style dial just a tad from typical Nokia fare, and frankly, that's just fine by us. The low-end 2605 lacks EV-DO and features only a VGA cam, while the 7205 kicks it up a notch with EV-DO, a 2 megapixel camera, and an ultra-slim (dare we say V9m-like) body. Verizon faithful might be disheartened to learn that both phones are thoroughly done over with Verizon's typical theme, so we're really not sure how much Nokia DNA is going to be left by the time these things get to market. Also found in the wild is the Verizon-branded Motorola W755, a KRZR-esque piece with a 1.3 megapixel cam and touch-sensitive external controls. No word yet on when we might see this trio on shelves.
