  • Upcoming AT&T phones get priced

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Nokia , Pantech , Samsung , Sony Ericsson , ATT , Symbian , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS It's always a good sign when rumored handsets get slapped with price tags, because that means that releases are right around the corner, too -- usually, anyhow. To that end, AT&T's latest stock information indicates that the S60-powered Nokia 6650 will run $129.99 in your choice of red or silver, as will the Sony Ericsson W760a ; the Samsung a637 will be coming in for $49.99, so we're expecting some pretty low-end stuff there; the Pantech C740 "Matrix" is priced at $79.99, and finally, the Motorola V9x we found out about way back in early July is checking in at a princely $199.99. All prices are after rebate, too, so we wouldn't expect any miraculous deals on these -- at least for the first few weeks. [Thanks, Kal] Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Silver Motorola Q9h for AT&T, anybody? Anybody?

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , ATT , Windows Mobile , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS The secret sauce to extending any phone's shelf life by at least a few months seems to be adding a new color or two into the mix (the Curve comes immediately to mind), and smartphones are no exception to the rule. It falls short of the lime green CDMA version's sheer wackiness, but AT&T's apparently getting ready to re-launch its venerable Motorola Q9h in gray, which is kind of like the original black except... you know, lighter. Seeing how Windows Mobile 6.1 is now official on this one, it comes as no surprise that these gray ones are showing up with the update preloaded; it's always a nice touch when you don't need to christen your new purchase with a hastily-installed update, isn't it? It's unknown what we'll be charged for the pleasure of owning one of these, but we'd assume it'll fall in line with the current version at $100 after rebate. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Windows Mobile 6.1 officially hits Motorola's Q9h

Filed under: Software , Motorola , ATT , Windows Mobile Mettlesome souls have been swimming in the Windows Mobile 6.1 seas on their Motorola Q9h for a few weeks now , but those waiting (and waiting) on a proper update can finally breathe a sigh of relief. The official ROM update that brings WinMo 6.1 to AT&T's Q9 is all ready for your attention, though we'd like to take this opportunity to remind you that backing up your device beforehand would be an absolutely stellar move. Why spend another minute living in the pre-6.1 era? Get that download a-blazin' and let us know how things turn out. [Via The Boy Genius Report ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • The Motorola RAZR 2 V9x for AT&T brings GPS, non-hideous color

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , ATT , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Shoot, all Motorola had to do was change from pink mahogany to this nice, normal, compliant shade of black, and that would've been enough of an update to justify a model name change. There's more, though: the V9x will officially offer AT&T Navigator, the Telenav -powered navigation system already found on the Z9 , and we can see from these press shots that it'll even work on the secondary display, which is pretty trick. This appears to be the same update that we'd originally heard would drop way back in January , which means we can likely expect Video Share support as well. Check 'er out! • Motorola named by AT&T as outstanding supplier, highlights strength in teamwork

Now this is just sad. Motorola doesn't seem to be doing anything more productive with its time than cutting jobs and publicizing a rather pathetic commendation from AT&T. Apparently, Motorola has been named, by AT&T, as an "Outstanding Supplier," among 27 other companies, in "the area of teamwork." Had Motorola been named "Most Innovative," "Best in [...]
  • AT&T gives Motorola an award, Motorola proceeds to gloat

Filed under: Motorola , ATT , Misc Look, everyone knows things aren't exactly gangbusters over at Motorola right now, but it's downright depressing when you've got to pat your own self on the back for an award given to you by AT&T. Even worse, the Outstanding Supplier recognition "in the area of teamwork" seems like something that should be expected as one mega-corp works with another, but we digress. Moto was apparently one of 27 that received similar awards, though we haven't tallied up precisely how many others felt the need to publicly gloat. Said Dan Moloney, president of Motorola's Home and Networks Mobility business, "we are delighted to be named amongst AT&T's best of the best in teamwork." And we're delighted for you, Mr. Moloney. • David Dorman appointed as Motorola non-executive Chairman

Filed under: Motorola , ATT , Misc We won't say that Motorola's on the up and up, but just after ridding itself of that pending litigation between it and Carl Icahn comes word that a fresh face will be succeeding Ed Zander as non-executive Chairman of the Board. David Dorman, former chairman and CEO of AT&T, has been selected by Moto's Board of Directors to take over Zander's chairman seat after he retires on May 5th . According to Greg Brown, president and CEO of the company, he feels that Dorman is "ideally suited to serve as Motorola's chairman," and he made known his excitement about working with Dave as it "moves forward with its plan to create two independent publicly traded companies and improve the performance of the Mobile Devices business ." Good luck in there, Mr. Dorman. [Image courtesy of USA Today ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • Hands-on with the Motorola Z9 for AT&T

Filed under: Handsets , Features , Motorola , ATT , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS So who exactly green-lighted the "mahogany" shade used on the AT&T V9 and Z9 , anyway? We don't like it any more now than we did when we saw it on the RAZR 2, but the phone itself looks like a solid choice for anyone seeking a decent midrange slider -- especially if Samsung and LG aren't to your liking. We were pleasantly surprised by how thin the phone looks and feels (the press shots seem to betray it there for some reason), and the screen is one of the better we've seen in a device in this class, both for size and clarity. Throw in a little AT&T Navigator action, Video Share support, and HSDPA, and you have yourself a complete little package -- if you're into those sorts of things, anyway! %Gallery-19597% Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • AT&T to follow Verizon's footsteps, self-brand navigation service?

Filed under: Software , ATT Love it or hate it, AT&T's been offering TeleNav navigation services on a number of devices for a while now -- but it looks like the carrier's trying to up its clout just a smidge by rechristening the service with its own name. We've been hearing that TeleNav will become AT&T Navigator tomorrow -- on AT&T, anyway -- and to commemorate the occasion, the Motorola Z9 slider will be launched as the inaugural device to use the rebranded service. We should be able to validate or debunk this in just a few hours now, so stay tuned. • The Motorola Z9's amazing, exciting accessories in the wild

Filed under: Motorola , ATT , Accessories Probably not worth rushing out to a store for, but some AT&T retail locations are starting to receive stock of the upcoming Motorola Z9's incredible batch of accessories. So, you know, if for whatever reason you were still holding out an irrational belief that the Z9 doesn't exist, this is probably the straw that breaks the camel's back right here. Now, let's just hope that we get something to actually put in the holster any minute now . Follow the break for another shot of the goods. • AT&T release dates through May (hint: no Vu)

Filed under: Handsets , Features , LG , Motorola , Samsung , Sony Ericsson , UTStarcom , ATT , Palm OS , Windows Mobile , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS We've just received a fresh round of release dates on AT&T, and if we had to pick a single word to describe the theme here, it'd be "colors." Shades upon shades of phones -- both new and old -- will see a release on AT&T in the next couple of months, starting with the Sony Ericsson Z750a , the first 3G Sony Ericsson to be released by a carrier in the States (but not in North America -- that honor belongs to Rogers ); it'll hit in your choice of gray, pink, or purple in early April. Like the a737 , the a437 gets done up in a whole spectrum -- gray, gold, and red, to be specific -- come mid April, alongside the workhorse Motorola V3xx in lavender, pink, gray, platinum, and red (noticing a trend with this whole gray thing?). It looks like the V3xx releases will be spaced out over a few weeks, for whatever reason, tapering off by the end of May. The now-ancient UTStarcom 5700 finally sees release toward the end of April more than a year after we first saw it in the FCC's business, giving a lower-end choice to the Windows Mobile faithful. Finally, May should bring about the LG CU720 Shine in black, following its initial offerings of silver and red. Oh, and it looks like the Motorola Z9 and the black Centro should be widely available pretty much any minute now -- stay tuned. Strangely missing from the list is the Vu , though that doesn't necessarily mean it won't be released by the end of May, it merely means that AT&T's not sure yet. Surprise, surprise. • Motorola Z9 pricing on AT&T

Color us surprised, but AT&T is apparently set to charge $249.99 for a Motorola Z9 - on 2-year contract, of course. We say the asking price is a bit much, but AT&T seems to feel that the pricing is right on point. The media-oriented slider from Motorola should be making an appearance at CTIA, which also [...]
