  • Sprint prepares to phone-cast entire NFL games, starting tonight

Filed under: Games , Multimedia , Sprint , EV-DO , CDMA The National Football League and Sprint have been tied up in one form or fashion for years now, but the relationship is finally rounding third and heading for home. All mixed analogies aside, what we're saying is that the feature you've been clamoring for has finally arrived, and beginning tonight, select Sprint subscribers will be able to watch the entire Cleveland Browns vs. Denver Broncos tilt on their handset. Obviously, you'll need a Sprint TV-capable handset and an Everything Plan (or a $15 per month add-on) in order to tune in, but tonight's game -- which kicks off at 8:00PM ET on the NFL Network -- will be the first of eight games (televised solely on that network) to air via Sprint. Whether or not The Now Network can keep up with the action, however, remains to be seen. • Cox to enter cellphone biz, link handsets to other cable-related services

Filed under: Sprint , EV-DO , MVNOs , CDMA , Misc , LTE We know, you're just dying to say this is a complete shock, but we're here to inform you that it's not . If you'll recall, Cox dug deep to snatch up a decent block of spectrum in this year's 700MHz auction , and it even went so far as to promise a differentiated product that would eventually integrate with its other content and services. Sure enough, it's keeping its word. After spending $500 million on wireless capacity in its markets, president Pat Esser says it's time to turn things on. By relying on Cox's own 3G network (along with Sprint's, initially), the carrier will offer up an undisclosed amount of handsets that will "include a network address book that automatically synchronizes with home PCs" and allow remote programming of one's DVR. Furthermore, users will be able to access e-mail and voicemail that they receive at home right on their mobile, and ideally, subscribers could watch TV shows right on their handsets. Get ready for an awkward new rival in the wireless space beginning, um, anytime now. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Motorola Z6tv gets detailed and priced by Verizon

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Verizon Wireless , EV-DO , CDMA After having been through the indignity of an outing by the FCC , a roadmap slip , and subsequent roadmap correction , the Motorola Z6tv finally looks good to go. Verizon has let it slip that the handset will land for $279 on one-year agreement and $229 with two-year -- both feature $50 mail in rebates, to boot. So, there ya have it, look for this handset to be in your local bricks and mortar in the coming weeks, if not sooner. Oh, and hit the read link to pop on over to the Verizon site where all the nitty gritty details are posted for your geeky pleasure. • Sprint BlackBerry Pearl to support Sprint TV?

Filed under: Handsets , Multimedia , RIM , Sprint , EV-DO , CDMA It appears that Sprint has let the bag again and allowing some clever readers to comb through the same spec sheet . It looks like Sprint will launch the BlackBerry 8130 supporting both their Mobile TV and Music Store services. Nothing sounds more enticing than streaming audio and video via EV-DO on our BlackBerry . Now only if Sprint can get their mobile TV offerings in line with VCast TV or maybe Verizon will follow suit and enable another Smartphone for their music service. • LG VX9400 unboxed

Filed under: Handsets , Multimedia , LG , Verizon Wireless , 1xRTT , EV-DO , CDMA Well, looky here -- we've come a long way since CES when we scored those up close and personal shots with LG's VX9400 , now haven't we? Luckily for us, our friendly parcel carrier dropped off one of these newly released beauties and we wanted to share the (joyful) unboxing experience with y'all. Just to give a quick refresher of the features, here they are: dual band 1X / EV-DO radio, VCAST TV support, Bluetooth with A2DP, expandable memory via microSD, and a 1.3 megapixel shooter. Finally, lets not forget about the 262,000 color, 320 x 240 swiveling display (which, by the by, is quite purty when opened). Check out the gallery for more pics and be sure to keep a look out for our mobile TV shootout! • Qualcomm unveils EV-DO Rev B roadmap

Filed under: Messaging , Multimedia , Others , EV-DO , CDMA While most folks are just getting over the Rev A novelty, it looks like Qualcomm is already prepared to take things to the next level, as it has developed a new chipset that reportedly delivers "9.3Mbps data transfers in field testing." The MSM7850 is being touted as the "industry's first device solution for EV-DO Rev B," hopefully enabling more of those mobile streaming niceties that we all adore. Additionally, Qualcomm stated that there wouldn't be a need for "infrastructure hardware changes" in order to take advantage of the Rev B sweetness, and the chipset itself would be "fully backwards compatible." As for the firm's CSM6800, a "software solution" will purportedly be available by the month's end which will enable "multi-carrier EV-DO Rev B support." Unfortunately, there wasn't a lot of detail surrounding hard dates beyond that, but we can expect the outfit's Rev B-capable MSM7850 to hit testing / sampling later this year, after which the countdown to EV-DO Rev C can officially begin. • Verizon rolls out LG VX9400, second VCAST TV phone

Filed under: Handsets , Multimedia , LG , Verizon Wireless , 1xRTT , EV-DO , CDMA Sure, Samsung's u620 was the first on the scene when Verizon's MediaFLO -based VCAST TV service launched earlier this month, but the fashionably late VX9400 from LG seems to be the real prize. At least that's the impression we got when we had the opportunity to mess around with both side by side at CES in January, and starting today, Verizon customers can start buying and critiquing VX9400s of their very own (in VCAST TV markets, anyway). Your hard-earned $200 -- plus the standard issue two-year agreement, of course -- will net you the Chocolate-esqe handset with a swivel screen, 1.3 megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth, microSD expansion, and naturally, EV-DO data. We wouldn't mind a few more teevee channels, but beggars can't be choosers when it comes to the mobile TV landscape here in the US -- and besides, it's a pretty nifty lookin' handset anyway, right?
