  • AT&T launching 10 channels for AT&T Mobile TV tomorrow on LG Vu and Samsung Access

The long wait for AT&T's new mobile TV service, appropriately dubbed "AT&T Mobile TV," will soon come to an end. As expected, the new AT&T Mobile TV service is set to launch on May 4 (tomorrow) with 10 full-streaming TV channels. But, there's a catch. You have to have an AT&T cellphone equipped with Qualcomm's [...]
  • AT&T preparing to launch Mobile TV on May 4?

It's been a long time coming and after more delays than we have patience for, AT&T may finally be launching their Mobile TV service on May 4. With the Samsung Access ready to rock and roll with AT&T's MediFLO-powered Mobile TV service, the new service can't launch fast enough. Word on the street has AT&T launching [...]
  • Hands-on with Samsung Access, Samsung Alias and Samsung Instinct from CTIA Las Vegas 2008

Samsung didn't really have much to show at CTIA, which is pretty much in line with the lack of anything new from CTIA Las Vegas 2008, but they did have the new Samsung Access and the Samsung Alias on showcase. The Samsung Alias is an updated successor to the popular dual-hinge Samsung SCH-u740 clamshell handset for [...]
  • Qualcomm's 2007 MediaFLO finances show greater losses

The ugly-duckling of Mobile TV standards definitely didn’t get off to a good start in 2007. MediaFLO, wholly owned by lawsuit-loving Qualcomm, has shown that 2007 wasn’t a great year for profits. MediaFlo’s 2007 statement-filing with the SEC details yet another year of red-ink. Qualcomm’s Mobile TV initiative has posted losses of $240 million for 2007. That’s means Qualcomm lost $118 million more than last year, on this whole “Mobile TV” deal. And, Qualcomm is blaming its QSI (Qualcomm Strategic Initiative) arm’s lackluster financial performance on MediaFLO’s losses. Apparently, MediaFLO took a $70 million hit on its Verizon Wireless-launch last year and the company’s expected launch on AT&T may just widen the gap between profits and losses. Let’s hope Qualcomm’s headed for “greener” pastures with MediaFLO’s 2008 performance. • Samsung A827 "Access" to bring up AT&T's lower-end MediaFLO TV lineup

It looks like AT&T is going to be offering a MediaFLO TV -compatible handset in a range of price-points . What you see here is the newly announced Samsung A827 Access, complete with a dedicated “TV” button to “access” all that MediaFLO TV goodness. With a 1.3 megapixel shooter, small display, and fairly unremarkable design, the quad-band Samsung Access looks to be firmly planted in the lower-end of AT&T MediaFLO lineup. We’re expecting a likewise low-end price-point for this handset as well. ---Related Articles at IntoMobile:AT&T MediaFLO Mobile TV coming ASAP in 2008Samsung drops SGH-J200 candybar - the lower end E590Samsung Katalyst t739 for T-Mobile HotSpot@Home service?MetroPCS launches the Samsung R410Samsung SPH-M800 getting primped for Sprint
  • AT&T MediaFLO Mobile TV coming ASAP in 2008

So, the AT&T deal with Qualcomm to bring the mobile TV technology MediaFLO to its stable of mobile phones (including a few Nokia handsets) didn’t exactly help calm the Nokia-Qualcomm battle this year. In fact, the incessant quarreling was probably the reason that AT&T had to delay launching its MediaFLO service until next year. We’re hearing from AT&T that they are working to bring MediaFLO “as soon as possible” in 2008. The network-tests are reportedly going very, very well” and AT&T wants to “make sure the user experience is absolutely optimal” before they go live with the mobile TV service. So, network test’s are going honky-dory but AT&T wants to delay the launch of MediaFLO? Sounds like the hold-up might have more to do with Qualcomm and Nokia’s bitter-feelings than AT&T’s desire to ensure “absolutely optimal” performance. You see, Nokia is pushing DVB-H as the mobile TV standard of choice, but AT&T’s MediaFLO deal with Qualcomm will require Nokia to do more business with Qualcomm - something we’re sure Nokia is loath to doing. In any case, AT&T’s MediaFLO-based mobile TV offering will be pretty much on par with Verizon Wireless’s VCAST TV service (which has been up and running for, like, ever). Unfortunately, we’re also hearing that AT&T’s prmoise of “advanced MediaFLO capabilities” may not make the cut. Datecasting and music features aren’t in the cards for AT&T’s MediaFLO, sorry. • GoTV Latin Music channel launches on AT&T, planned for Sprint

GoTV has just signed on to provide mobile video content for AT&T, adding to the carrier’s mobile content offerings. The latin music channel, ES Música will serve up made-for-mobile video content in snippets that offer video countdowns, tour documentaries, and artist profiles - as well as a variety of latin music. Reuters reports that “A reality series following an artist is also in development.” GoTV is also planning to launch ES Música on Sprint’s network by end of the August. If you’ve got a hankerin’ for some latino-flava, head on over to AT&T or Sprint and get set for some latin mobile-content. Or, you know, brush up on all that Spanish you learned in high school.
