  • Report: Wal-Mart to sell iPhone 3G

Wal-Mart will reportedly begin selling Apple's iPhone 3G Dec. 28 in 2,500 of 3,500 Wal-Mart stores in the United States, as well as in 69 of 500 Sam's Club stores, according to JPRG Research analyst Jamie Townsend. The news follows a confirmation by Wal-Mart in October that it would be selling the T-Mobile G1, the first phone powered by Google's Android platform. The iPhone 3G news was outlined in a research note Townsend sent to her clients that described the Wal-Mart arrangement as a standard distribution deal, meaning customers will still have to sign a two-year service contract with AT&T Mobility. In addition, she said the device "is likely to be priced the same or less than at AT&T or Apple stores." Wal-Mart has not commented on the report. "We've made no official announcement about offering the iPhone," Wal-Mart spokeswoman Melissa O'Brien said in an email to FierceWireless on Wednesday. There is also a rumor that the iPhone 3G device will be reduced to $149 in January, as Apple finds itself in an increasingly crowded smartphone market and hopes to boost sales amid weakening economic conditions. • Review: BodyGuardz Protective Skin for iPhone 3G

The BodyGuardz Protective Skin for iPhone 3G is available now in the TiPb Store for $24.95. It is a thin, clear, protective film that covers almost the entire body of your iPhone 3G - screen, back, top, bottom, and sides, yet still gives your iPhone the “naked” look and adds virtually no bulk while offering [...]
  • iPhone 2.2 firmware released - brings Google Street View, Safari improvements and more

We were kind of expecting the iPhone OS 2.2 update to be released today, November 21, and it was, indeed. Apple now proudly presents, on its official website, all the improvements and additions that the 2.2 firmware brings to the hugely popular iPhone. Among them, unfortunately, you won’t find MMS and copy/paste capabilities. But there’s Google [...]
  • iPhone 2.2 firmware update available now, Google Street View and plenty more

Filed under: Handsets var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/apple/iPhone_2_2_firmware_update_available_now'; It's here. Google Street View and over the air Podcast downloads from iTunes. Yup, public transit and walking directions too and the ability to share your location via email. Bug fixes, Safari enhancements, the ability to toggle auto-text correction, and plenty more... just like we heard in the pre-rumor run-up . Now get outta here, your iTunes update awaits. Update : Added some screenshots of the most notable new features after the break. The Street View implementation seems solid though we miss the compass feature found on T-Mobile's G1. Also, the real-estate saved by moving the Google search field next to the URL field in Mobile Safari is a welcome and obvious change. As to auto-correction, well, that's personal taste. Tipster Vizcaya also noticed that Apple added a new option to rate an App when you delete it from your phone. You can also view multiple screenshots of applications available in the App Store. Update 2 : The other big update, Podcast downloads, works just as you'd hope and should further promote the spontaneous isolation we all crave. A few shots of that added after the break. • Incase Power Slider for iPhone 3G doubles the juice, lets you sync

Filed under: Apple , Accessories Been cursing your iPhone 3G 's disappointing battery life? Don't have the heart to saddle the thing with that big ol' Juice Pack ? The Power Slider by Incase promises to double your phone's power for up to 5 hours talk time on the 3G network (10 hours on 2G), increase your audio playback time to 26 hours, and increase your video playback time to 7 hours. If that wasn't enough, the iPhone can be left in the case while you sync it -- saving wear and tear on the case and on your phone. While the Slider isn't as svelte as your raw, naked iPhone, at the very least it manages to keep roughly the same shape (even if it does fatten it up quite a bit). No pricing yet, should be available starting November 28. Incase Power Slider for iPhone 3G doubles the juice, lets you sync originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Mon, 17 Nov 2008 17:27:00 EST. • Apple hit with another iPhone 3G lawsuit

Apple has been hit with another lawsuit related to the iPhone 3G. The suit claims, among other complaints, that the company has been aware of hairline cracks in the iPhone's casing. "Although Apple was and is aware that the iPhones were and are defective, and that consumers have experienced repeated instances of cracked housing, Apple has nevertheless allowed the defectively designed iPhones to be sold to the public," the suit says. The suit, which was filed in a New York District Court by Long Island resident Avi Koschitzki, also complains that the iPhone's connection to AT&T's HSPA 3G network is not what was advertised. Apple sought in mid-October to throw out a similar lawsuit from July that also made those claims.
