  • Interview: Dolby explain about "Dolby Mobile"

This week, I was lucky enough to spend some time in the company of Max Taylor (International Marketing Director, Mobile), and Mark Price (Public Relations Manager, EMEA), from Dolby Mobile. Many of you may remember that we covered Dolby's move in to Mobile as part of Will's CTIA coverage - out of that has spun [...]

  • Player X have some great content titles!

Following on from the last blog I wrote, I thought it only fair to go and have a nose around the Player X website. What I actually found was some pretty decent video content titles - and impressively, it looks like they have done something with them in a number of instances - case in point: Knight Rider ! Now I don’t know about all of you, but I grew up watching the exploits of Mr Michael Knight, and on occasion, his dodgy evil twin Garth (all that seemed to separate them was a dodgy stick-on ‘tache!). And what about Devon, and then Bonnie - who sadly got replaced by April! Yes, I know some of you now are reminiscing about the car who out-acted the actor  So anyway, I digress - Player X have some great content, including Family Guy (the funniest thing on TV), Morph, Transformers, She-Ra (!), and well…LA Urban Defender - and I’ve not even started on the games! Anyways, I highly recommend a trip over to their site , even if it is to get a taste of some retro funk mobile video goodness, via their Flash player samples….. ---Related Articles at IntoMobile:Glu Mobile and SEGA extend partnership; Sonic titles and Sega Rally coming soonEA Games soon available for S60 devicesPlay GameBoy titles on your iPhoneGlu Mobile to distribute Konami games in EuropeN-Gage September launch date retracted; Typo or slip up?

  • Virgin UK does games and video with Player X

Player X has been appointed as the offical aggregator of all games and video content for Virgin Mobile in the UK. The deal includes all the portal management, aggregation, QA, and any encoding required. It’s quite unusual that a single company has been appointed to do what is potentially such a large amount (both in terms of volume and categories) of an MNO’s content - most Operators I have worked with or for, favour the ‘eggs in many baskets’ approach. Perhaps Virgin, as an MvNO are looking at a different outsourcing strategy, allowing them to focus on grabbing revenue-generating subscribers. Or perhaps Virgin have decided that content isn’t that important, and they are going to focus on the twin moo-ing cash cows of voice and text - there, I said it….thoughts anyone?
