  • FCC approves AT&T’s Fuze (HTC Touch Pro)

We can’t wait to get our hands on the HTC Touch Pro. It really doesn’t matter to us if we get our mitts on the unlocked HTC Touch Pro straight from HTC or AT&T’s re-branded variant (the AT&T Fuze). The point is, we want to get our finger-grease all over the QWERTY-keyboard toting HTC Touch [...]
  • AT&T Fuze gets FCC approval?

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , ATT , Windows Mobile , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS , HSUPA It's always good news when some sort of Touch Pro garners approval from that lovable bureaucracy we call the FCC, but this one has an extra-special place in our hearts: we're pretty sure it's the Fuze . Digging a little deeper into the documentation for the HTC model with code "NM8RPLT" reveals that it's a Raphael, and it sports HSUPA 850 / 1900 -- and if that doesn't dovetail nicely with what we're expecting out of AT&T any day, week, month, or year now, we don't know what does. So tell us, FCC, how are AT&T's customizations to TouchFLO 3D? Tasteful? Annoying? Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • FCC reveals LG CP250 for AT&T

Filed under: Handsets , LG , ATT , GSM , EDGE LG's generally one of the most consistently tightlipped companies when it comes to revealing details about upcoming handsets via FCC documentation; yes, granted, they've got to file certain documents, but they do so in the most obscure, boring way possible (take, for instance, the ID label samples, which show the same meaningless diagram for every single device they test). Imagine our surprise, then, to see that the LG CP250 flip has been revealed here in full AT&T battle regalia -- complete with a VGA cam, EDGE data, a pair of color displays, and that's just about it. We would've liked their one-in-a-million FCC reveal to be just a little more interesting, but hey, it's a start, LG. Keep it coming. [Via Phone Scoop ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Nokia 2680 slide garners FCC attention in AT&T trim

Filed under: Handsets , Nokia , ATT , GSM , EDGE Who knew that AT&T's customer base constituted an "emerging market"? Certainly not us, but Nokia's 2680 slide -- a phone Nokia itself said was targeted at so-called "replacement buyers" in emerging markets -- has just been spotted all up in the FCC's business bearing an AT&T logo front and center (well, actually, it's toward the bottom, but you get our drift). It includes an FM radio, MP3 ringtone support, a low-end cam, and an unsubsidized price of €75 (about $114), so we suspect this'll likely find a home on GoPhone. If it does end up on the postpaid roster, though, expect it be about as close to free as they come. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • AT&T tells the FCC it'll cut off wireless P2P users

Filed under: Software , ATT , Misc It looks like the FCC's investigation into Comcast's questionable traffic management is turning up a number of interesting details, the latest of which comes from AT&T's Robert Quinn, who told FCC Commissioner Robert McDowell that, "use of a P2P file sharing application would constitute a material breach of contract for which the user's service could be terminated." Quinn was apparently quick to add, however, that AT&T hasn't yet kicked anyone off the network for using P2P. Still, Commissioner McDowell apparently intends to use AT&T's statement to argue against the FCC's forthcoming order that contends Comcast secretly downgraded P2P traffic, saying that Comcast's throttling of traffic isn't as bad as AT&T blocking it all together. The merits of that argument aside, as TechDirt points out, given that AT&T's beef with P2P is that it makes use of "continuous (rather than bursty) transmissions at high data rates," their position does open up a number of interesting questions about streaming apps like Pandora, which are similarly data-intensive but, last we checked, still working just fine on AT&T's network. • Pantech C530 pops up in FCC, likely AT&T bound

Filed under: Handsets , Pantech , ATT , GSM , EDGE Pantech has an awesome habit of delivering a handful of fairly anonymous devices to AT&T -- C810 WinMo dual slider notably excepted -- and judging from what little we can gather in the test reports, we've got another one on the way. AT&T-bound models from the Korean outfit start with "C" (an homage to Cingular, no doubt) and this one fits the bill with GSM / EDGE on the 850 and 1900MHz bands. Other than that, though, your guess is as good as ours -- it seems pretty wide, though. A QWERTY piece, perhaps? Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • iPhone 3G hits the FCC

Filed under: Handsets , ATT , Apple , OS X Like you even had to ask. Yes, Johnny, the iPhone 3G will be getting looked over by the FCC. [Thanks, Chris] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Pantech C820 confirmed by way of FCC

Filed under: Handsets , Pantech , Windows Mobile , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Rumors of a successor to Pantech's Duo for AT&T just got a little more believable this week thanks to a new FCC filing for a device matching the model number we'd been told to look out for. The C820's posterior here certainly looks the part of a dual slider smartphone, and the inclusion of WCDMA 850 / 1900 pretty much locks up AT&T as the destination -- so the only question left is whether it's the 2 megapixel Windows Mobile 6.1 baddie we're hoping for, or just some random milquetoast messenger for the low end. The smart money still says it's the former, but Murphy and his stupid law just love to prove us wrong in these sorts of situations. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Rural wireless carriers petition FCC to look into iPhone exclusivity deal

Who knew the iPhone was so popular, especially in rural America? Actually, we knew it was popular, but it's surprising to hear that rural wireless carriers are upset that they can't offer their local subscribers any iPhone-love. The problem is that AT&T and Apple have an iPhone exclusivity agreement that forces rural iPhone hopefuls to deal [...]
  • AT&T-branded Sony Ericsson Z780i is exciting like white bread

Filed under: Handsets , Sony Ericsson , ATT , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS We can think of at least one Sony Ericsson model we'd rather see launched on AT&T than this, but life isn't always fair, and apparently, neither is AT&T. The recently-announced Z780i seemed destined for the carrier pretty much from the moment we saw that it sported HSDPA 850 / 2100, and sure enough, the model that Sony Ericsson decided to submit for the FCC's perusal comes well-equipped with AT&T branding (and just look at that cute little logo on the d-pad!). We'll save our genuine excitement for hotter wares, but sure, we're glad to see that Sony Ericsson's commitment to the US market seems to be holding steady. • Pantech C610 shows up in FCC -- bound for AT&T, we'd wager

Filed under: Handsets , Pantech , ATT History tells us that Pantech likes to slap a "C" prefix on its models destined for AT&T (harking back to the Cingular days, no doubt), and so naturally our eyes widened just a bit when we saw just such a device fly through the FCC this week. This particular device is dubbed the C610, which we guesstimate puts it at about 200 less than the C810 ; enough of a deduction to take it out of the smartphone realm? Hard to say. We can tell from the documentation here that it's a 3G device, and a couple shots of the phone in the SAR reports taken from far, far away (blown up here for your viewing enjoyment) show a clamshell that's probably targeting a fashion-conscious crowd since it's done up in red. We wish we could say "we'll know soon enough," but since we're still waiting for the SMT5700 that hit the FCC over a year ago , we'll keep our mouths shut. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • CLEARED: HTC Touch Dual passes the FCC as HTC NEO300

It took a little bit longer (in Europe, the HTC Touch Dual was introduced back in October last year already) but the U.S. will finally get its version of the Touch Dual as well. The HTC NEON300 just cleared the FCC and it will be a real power-horse, featuring Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional which is powered by a 400 MHz CPU which is backed-up by 256 MB ROM and 128 MB RAM. Like the European version, the North American Touch Dual will also feature Bluetooth 2.0 and will misses WiFi (again) but will support 850 and 1900 MHz UMTS/HSDPA. The FCC is showing the 20-keys SureType version (which nevertheless might change to the 16-keys version): [ Permalink ] (c) 2008 by the::unwired - All Rights Reserved
