  • Reuters: 3G iPhone announcement for Italy Monday, or Tuesday

Filed under: Handsets , Apple Reuters Italia is reporting that the 3G iPhone will be announced by the Italian carrier TIM (and presumably the rest of Europe) on Monday, Tuesday at the latest. Better yet, Reuters' source within TIM says that the 3G iPhone will be available immediately, Tuesday at the latest. Availability is still rumored for sometime in June for Italy. It's been awhile since Apple did an announce-and-launch on the same day. And quietly distributing 3 million or so iPhones around the world even with Apple's stealth is no easy task. And we still haven't seen it, or anything from Apple hit the FCC. At this point, the biggest surprise of WWDC would be for Jobs not to announce a 3G iPhone. Update : After some initial confusion over the translation, Reuters says that it will be announced on Monday or Tuesday. [Via ToTouch , thanks Giovanni] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • 3G iPhone to support 42Mbps Evolved HSPA data?

Filed under: Handsets , Telstra , HSDPA , Apple var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/apple/3G_iPhone_to_support_42Mbps_Evolved_HSPA_data'; Get this. Australian site ChannelNews claims that a "senior executive of Telstra" is the latest 3G iPhone bean spiller. They quote the exec as saying the following: "We know what is coming we have seen the new device and it will be available on our network as soon as it is launched in the USA. By Christmas this phone will be capable of 42Mbps which will make it faster than a lot of broadband offerings and the fastest iPhone on any network in the world." Interesting. We know that Telstra's Next G HSDPA network has been capable of 14.4Mbps since 2007 . At GSMA Mobile World Congress, they even committed to 21Mbps before the end of the year and 42Mbps using HSPA+ (aka, Evolved HSPA, HSPA Evolution ) technology in 2009... not Christmas of 2008. Hard to say if this is just industry blow-harding or actual insider info. June 9th : T-minus 17 days and counting. • AT&T listing "iPhone Black" model, O2 gets the original back in stock

Filed under: Handsets , ATT , O2 , Apple Good news and bad news on the imminent 3G iPhone front. O2 apparently got another batch of 16 giggers in stock, since it's currently accepting orders, while the 8GB remains out of stock, and both phones remain unavailable on the US and UK Apple Stores. More encouraging, however, is the new listing of an "iPhone Black" model on AT&T's account management site. There's nothing else on the site to hint at specs or release or whether this is indeed the upcoming 3G iPhone, but it does fall in line with the word we have on a glossy black back for the much anticipated phone. Whether all this means we have weeks or months to wait is anyone's guess, but there are plenty of encouraging signs out there for the true believers to cling onto. • Next-gen iPhone spotted in the wild?

Filed under: Handsets , ATT , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , Apple , OS X Well here's an interesting one. French iPhone blog iPhon.fr got these pics from an anonymous and unverified source, and while there's no way of telling if the shots are legit, they certainly have a truthy ring to them. They follow what we know so far about the shape , size and color of the upcoming 3G iPhone, and while there's always the possibility of knockoff, a Photoshop job, or some other evil plot to mislead us, we're certainly not going to discount these shots entirely in the runup to iPhone's second coming.
