  • GUI: Bell introduces exclusive User Interface for Windows Mobile touch Smartphones

    Bell Mobility yesterday announced an innovative user interface that places all data services and popular features on the main screen of touch screen smartphones. Soon to be available on a wide range of Windows Mobile 3G smartphones from Bell, the unique interface is being introduced on the HTC Touch Diamond smartphone. While on the first sight it reminds a little bit on HTC's TouchFLO 3D, it's not a HTC user interface at all, even if it will be introduced on HTC Windows Mobile smartphones first but it works together with HTC's Windows Mobile and Touch enhancements. Nevertheless, as a matter of fact, Bell Mobility worked with a world leading design company to create a unique user experience for their touch devices to offer easy personalization and fast access to live information feeds.   • AVAILABLE: Microsoft opens Live Mesh Beta and releases Windows Mobile client

    As promised by the Live Mesh team, today Microsoft opened it's Live Mesh service to the masses and removed the limitation on what countries you were able to sign up to use Live Mesh. The previous limitation was in place so Microsoft could complete its testing with various language and locale settings. Furthermore, the Live Mesh team rolled out an update which brings the service and PC software to Beta with significant new features, and includes the first technology previews of the promised Mac and Windows Mobile clients. Unfortunately, both Betas, the Mac and Windows Mobile client are restricted to certain countries for now as well as Microsoft is rolling out, during an initial testing phase, a limited amount of clients only.   • COMPATIBILITY: Microsoft Live Mesh to hit Windows Mobile later this week

    The word from Microsoft's PDC is out that Live Mesh will hit Windows Mobile later this week. With Live Mesh, which was available so far as a Technology Preview only but soon should be available as a broader public Beta, you can synchronize files with all your PCs and Notebooks as well as you will soon be able to synchronize between your Windows PCs and Windows Mobile devices as well as Mac computers. It allows you to access your files from any device or from the web as well as easily share them with others and get notified whenever someone changes a file.     Following Opera Software's earlier announcement, to work with T-Mobile on their Widgets for web'n'walk, Opera today announced the launch Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta 2 which introduces Opera Widgets to the public, enabling one-click Web content access. This release marks the second Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta for Windows Mobile and the first-ever Beta for UIQ-based phones. Like T-Mobile, other operators can now incorporate Opera Widgets into their customer offering. This means that customer-selected Web content can be accessed from a list of icons on the home-screen. Widgets can also serve as a means of customer communication, as automatic notifications are now easier to instantly deliver to subscribers. Sure enough, this time it's neither developed nor supported by Apple itself but by Norwegian developer Erik Kristiansen who developed his own Boot Camp which either runs his iPhone with the original Apple OS or alternatively with Windows Mobile Professional.   • DEVELOPMENT: First Firefox Mobile for Windows Mobile Screenshots available

    We heard about the upcoming Firefox Mozilla Alpha launch earlier and as the Firefox Mobile team mentioned in the very beginning, Firefox Mobile will be definitely released for Windows Mobile as well. So far, everything was theoretical only but now we have the first screenshots of Firefox Mobile, running on a Windows Mobile Professional touchscreen smartphone. These screenhots are giving a good impression how the final version of Fennec might look/most likely look like but even more important, the developers managed to run the Acid3 Test with a score of 88/100 - which is impressive for a mobile browser!
