User-generated mobile content community MyxerTones announced a partnership with Starbucks New England and the NEMO Music Festival to bring to mobile the music of entrants in the Starbucks Music Makers Competition. The contest's 49 semi-finalist bands will use the MyxerTones platform to create free ringtones as a vehicle to promote their music as online voting begins. Participating artists will also get facetime on the MyxerTones website, which translates to exposure to more than two million monthly users. "Myxer was a terrific find for the competition," said Kristin Bredimus, director of the NEMO Music Festival and the Starbucks Music Makers Competition. "The musicians are able to create cool mobile content for their existing fans while simultaneously offering that mobile content to an entire new group of potential new fans resident in the MyxerTones community. Though our competition is competitive, the overall goal is to promote great, live, independent music that can be enjoyed in a traditional coffee-house setting, and Myxer clearly helps us achieve that goal." The Starbucks Music Makers Competition is presently showcasing regional competitions in select Starbucks stores, with between five and seven artists performing three songs each. One artist from each event, plus wildcards, will be invited to the finals Oct. 11 in Boston. Local music industry professionals will judge each in-store competition, and their votes will be tallied and added to a public vote, determined via online voting.
