  • Get a Storm for a C-note less than usual

Filed under: Handsets , RIM , Verizon Wireless , GSM , EDGE , EV-DO , HSDPA , UMTS , CDMA If the BlackBerry Storm's $199.99 retail price on contract after rebate isn't sitting particularly well with you, there's an alternative you may want to investigate. LetsTalk, purveyors of the free Bold , have outdone themselves with a rebate-laden $99 Storm; granted, the catch is that you've got to sign up for a plan package of $69.99 or higher, but let's be honest -- plenty of Storm buyers are going to be doing just that anyway. • Nokia E71 finally coming to AT&T as E71x

Filed under: Handsets , Nokia , ATT , Symbian , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS We've been hearing for ages that there was a super-special version of the E71 with an AT&T ROM floating around somewhere in Nokia's skunkworks, but solid evidence of its existence has been scarce to say the least; some said it was canceled, some said it was just taking its sweet time going through the testing process, and some put a hand over our mouth and told us never to speak "AT&T" and "E71" in the same sentence again lest an agent overhear us. New in-the-wild shots give us -- and the North American S60-loving public -- newfound hope that the phone's gonna actually happen, but it'll emerge as the "E71x." That's a new suffix for Nokia, so we really have no idea what it might mean -- more internal memory would be cool, but we're not really counting on it. Word is that it'll be available for something in the $150 range when it finally hits, so if the 6650 isn't your cup o' tea, hang tight. (And by the way, guys, we're totally digging the black.) • Toshiba's unusual G450 cellphone / MP3 player / HSDPA USB modem reviewed, liked

Filed under: Handsets , Multimedia , Peripherals , O2 , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS , Toshiba After a flurry of leaks and announcements caught our attention last year, we've heard nary a peep from Toshiba about its multi-faceted device since. Suffice to say that's it's out in parts of Europe and countries with a penchant for the backward "R" and "N." Great, but what is it and how well does it do what it does; that's the convoluted question. Fortunately, IntoMobile went hands on with the USB memory stick / alarm clock with snooze / MP3 player / 7.2Mbps HSDPA USB modem / tri-band GSM cellphone and came away with the opinion that "the device is excellent." It pulled a respectable 2.7Mbps off O2's UK network and performed reasonably well as a "backup phone." The 160MB of storage for MP3 / AAC music playback was disappointing but it served its purpose in a pinch. Still, that's a lot of device for £140. • LG Incite for sale on AT&T's site, $199.99 on contract

Filed under: Handsets , LG , ATT , Windows Mobile , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Goodness, that was quick! We'd expected LG's Incite smartphone to pop up maybe by the end of the week if we were lucky, did all of our homework, and went to bed on time, but AT&T's gone ahead and jumped the gun by throwing up the glossy touchphone for sale already. To recap, most of the rumored specs were spot on: wide QVGA, 3-megapixel cam, Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, WiFi, and GPS round out a promising feature set, but you're going to pay to the tune of $299.99 on contract before a $100 mail-in rebate on a Visa gift card. What happened to good, old-fashioned cash? [Thanks, Luis] LG Incite for sale on AT&T's site, $199.99 on contract originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Tue, 18 Nov 2008 01:19:00 EST. • LG Incite release imminent on AT&T

Filed under: Handsets , LG , ATT , Windows Mobile , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS LG and AT&T have done a pretty commendable job of keeping leaks about their glossy new WinMo set to a bare minimum, but you can only keep a phone this ritzy under wraps for so long, right? Word on the street is that AT&T stores will be ordering the LG Incite as of this Thursday, filling a gap in the lineup between the Vu and the Eternity -- full touchscreen dumbphones -- and the Fuze , the hot new QWERTY smartphone of the range. If the rumored specs hold up, we're looking at a WQVGA display, 3-megapixel cam, 3.6Mbps HSDPA, and Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. Any would-be Fuze buyers second-guessing themselves now? • Sony Ericsson C905a with AT&T firmware means... well, you know

Filed under: Handsets , Sony Ericsson , ATT , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS That "more bars in more places" startup sequence there look familiar? We're not rocket scientists, granted, but first of all, we have no idea what rocket science has to do with the mobile phone industry. Secondly, seeing a carrier-branded firmware show up on a hot new (and somewhat unexpected) model is bound to get some gears turning. The whole K850 debacle reminds us that a branded device can go all the way up to the last minute and still get tossed to the wayside -- and there's certainly precedent for such a tragic fate to happen to a Sony Ericsson, specifically -- but we can't help but let our minds wander to the possibilities of an 8-megapixel beast like the C905 landing on AT&T in the near future. Some lucky cat was offering a US-friendly C905a model for sale (don't bother logging into eBay, it's already been snatched up) allegedly burned with an AT&T ROM, suggesting that they're either looking into offering it or, at the very least, Sony Ericsson was pitching it to the boys and girls in Atlanta. If it's still getting tossed around, let us just voice our opinion here: yes, AT&T. Do it. • BlackBerry Storm comes to Vodafone today -- take cover immediately

Filed under: Handsets , RIM , Vodafone , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Just how badly do you want a Storm ? Badly enough to pull up your long-established roots, fly for half a day, and take residence in a foreign land thousands of miles from home? For Americans who absolutely cannot wait another week for RIM's first touchscreen device to launch on domestic soil, that's the only option; for Brits on Vodafone, though, heaven is but a single shop trip away. The BlackBerry Storm has now officially launched in the Old Country and can be had for as little as zilch on a Voda plan, so do let us know how your experiences go, yeah? Your yankee friends thank you in advance. • AT&T starts to hawk Samsung Eternity online

Filed under: Handsets , Samsung , ATT , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS If there's some pressing matter that's preventing you from making it out to an AT&T store, there's a plan B you might want to investigate now that the carrier's website has started offering the Samsung Eternity for sale. It'll run you the same $149.99 on contract after rebate that it's going for in-store -- or $379.99 commitment-free if your life is too awesome and chaotic to sign it away for two years. Any Vu owners planning on caving to temptation? [Thanks, rlamontjr] AT&T starts to hawk Samsung Eternity online originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Fri, 14 Nov 2008 08:33:00 EST. • Samsung a867 Eternity now in AT&T stores, ready to take you to the great beyond

Filed under: Handsets , Samsung , ATT , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS The TouchWiz onslaught is now officially in full force, with Samsung's SGH-a867 Eternity now starting to find its way into AT&T stores across the lands to match its Behold and Delve cousins. It's running $149.99 on contract after rebate, bringing MediaFLO , a full-face touchscreen, HSDPA, 3-megapixel cam, AT&T Navigator, and pretty much everything else you could hope for out of a high-end non-smartphone, so if the 6650 isn't pushing your buttons (nor the Vu ), maybe this'll do something for ya. • Verizon schedules Storm for November 21 release, $199.99 on contract

Filed under: Handsets , RIM , Verizon Wireless , GSM , EDGE , EV-DO , HSDPA , UMTS , CDMA It may not be the iPhone-beating pricing we'd been hoping for, but $199.99 on a new two-year contract after $50 mail-in rebate will probably still be enough to sell a Storm or two (or billion), especially considering that it becomes both RIM's first touchscreen set and Verizon's first phone with global 3G when it finally floods the market (a bundled 8GB microSD card doesn't hurt, either). Speaking of flooding the market, it'll be available both online and in-store starting November 21 -- just a week from this Friday -- so get ready to finally say goodnight to that grungy BlackBerry 950 you've been using since 1978. • Nokia's E63 breaks free for mass market consumption

Filed under: Handsets , Nokia , Symbian , GSM , EDGE , UMTS The E63 just broke the shackles of the rumor monger to become Nokia's latest messaging device. With a pre-tax, pre-subsidy price of just €199, Nokia hopes to see the Symbian S60 device generate some mass-market appeal. So let's see: WiFi, physical QWERTY, choice of ruby red or aquamarine blue, standard 3.5-mm audio jack, camera with video recording, and the ability to switch from an E-series business mode (corporate email, appointments, intranet) to personal mode (pictures, personal email, and browser shortcuts) with a single key press -- sounds like a winning combination to us. Nokia's even tossing in 1GB of Ovi file storage for free when the E63 begins shipping in the coming weeks -- where, is Nokia's little secret for now. We'll update you with the hard details just as soon as Nokia releases them. Until then, check the blue version after the break. Update : We were able to hack forth the following detail from the bowels of Nokia's website: 113 x 59 x 13-mm / 126g, 320 x 240 pixel display, quad-band GSM / EDGE with 660 minute talk / 432 hours standby, microSD memory slot with 110MB internal memory, 2 megapixel camera capable of QVGA video @ 15fps, and of course, Bluetooth. Sorry, no HSDPA data or infrared like that found on the E71.
