  • FCC heads to Seattle to test AWS-3 spectrum interference

FCC engineers will travel to Seattle next week to conduct tests to see whether offering free broadband service on 25 percent of the AWS-3 spectrum will cause interference with T-Mobile's UMTS network that is currently being deployed in the AWS-1 spectrum band. FCC engineers will use some of T-Mobile's equipment to conduct interference tests, but they will set their own testing parameters. The FCC wants to create a 25-megahertz swath of spectrum, known as AWS-3, that would support a nationwide license. The agency would require the licensee to dedicate 25 percent of its network capacity to free broadband service, install a network-based Internet filtering system to block pornography and allow open access to third-party devices and applications. T-Mobile is opposed to the plan because it operates on an adjacent swath of spectrum and its engineers say that Internet traffic in neighboring airwaves will cause dropped connections for T-Mobile customers. • Motorola bringing crazy yellow MOTOACTV W450 to T-Mobile?

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , T-Mobile , GSM , EDGE Remember that wild, sporty W6 that Moto unveiled a few weeks back? TmoNews is claiming that T-Mobile will be picking up a suspiciously similar handset known as the MOTOACTV W450 in early September. There's really not terribly much going on here other than water resistance, apparently, with a 1.3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, media support with microSD slot (the phone's designed to be jogged with, after all), and that's pretty much it. Fortunately, the pleasure of shrieking at your own yellow keypad should only run you $30-50, so they say, when it launches. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

  • T-Mobile Announces 120,000 iPhone 3Gs Sold!

T-Mobile CEO Hamid Akhavan, speaking to Focus, revealed that Big Magenta(TM) has sold 120,000 iPhone 3G units since it went on sale July 11. The breakdown included 75,000 for Germany with the remainder being gobbled up in the Netherlands and Austria. This may sound small considering Apple previously reported 1 million iPhone 3Gs sold over launch [...]
  • HTC Dream G1 scale mockup reveals design

And the HTC Dream leaks keep on coming. Not that we mind, or anything. Following on the recent publication of the HTC Dream’s length and width dimensions, courtesy of the FCC, a newly leaked scale wire-frame mockup of the HTC Dream gives us a glimpse of what to expect when the HTC Dream G1 launches in [...]
  • Official layout of T-Mobile’s android powered phone surfaces

Only some days ago, we told you about T-Mobile’s android powered HTC Dream got approved by FCC and this time there is official mockup of the phone displaying an all-angles view of the upcoming device. The phone which is slimmer than iPhone 3G, is not much different from already released prototype drawings. Only way in [...]
  • You have 1 minute of credit remaining. AHHH!

I am, for some inane, strange reason, on a PAYG tariff with one of my T-Mobile accounts. I asked them, ages ago, to swap me to their lowest plan — which was some UFIX Talk thing. I’m not entirely sure what’s going on. They are billing me per month. Right? Yet I’ve got a price plan balance. [...]
  • HTC's Dream a super skinny QWERTY bananaphone?

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , T-Mobile , Android Yesterday we got the height and width , today it's the full wireframe model with scale measurements. While we can't confirm the authenticity, several details including that arcing base certainly dovetail nicely with the images found in the original FCC filing . It's also a near-perfect match to that early reference design seen kicking around the Googleplex courtesy of Andy Rubin. While not obvious before, we can clearly see that the arc belongs to the handset's rigid, non-sliding "chin" with lots of logos from HTC, T-Mobile, and Google fighting for visibility. Notably, the right-most image contains measurements which can be applied to the rest of scale model as well. This confirms the 115 x 55-mm height and width shown by the FCC yesterday as well as a new, approximate , 16.35-mm depth after applying the calipers. That would make it fatter (as expected) than the 12.3-mm iPhone but skinnier (and a hair wider) than the 18.1-mm HTC Touch Pro and 17-mm Xperia X1. Not bad. Now let's get to it boys, else there won't be much left to announce in September . [Via Android Community ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • HTC Dream G1 sized up by FCC

The HTC Dream G1 is about as out-of-the-bag as it can be. But, what we don’t know about the HTC Dream G1 is how big the device will be. It’ll be a huge hit, that much is certain, but what about the HTC Dream G1’s physical dimensions. The FCC has just approved the first Android-powered handset, [...]
  • T-Mobile sold 120,000 iPhone 3Gs since launch

Since its first worldwide launch last July 11, a total of 120,000 iPhone 3Gs have been sold by T-Mobile, with 75,000 handsets being sold in Germany alone. Not bad for a handset that’s launched for the first time with the said carrier. Whether that translates to 120,000 happy customers or not, as there have been many [...]
  • T-Mobile says its sold 120,000 iPhones

T-Mobile said it has sold 120,000 iPhone 3G mobile phones since its launch on July 11. Of those, 75,000 were sold in Germany. • BlackBerry KickStart / Pearl 8220's screens: pretty, T-Mobile-y

Filed under: Software , RIM , T-Mobile Along with the all-new form factor will come an all-new -- well, kinda new -- software build for RIM when it releases the BlackBerry Pearl (or KickStart , or whatever the hell they decide to call it) 8200 series later this year. The most fliptastic of the Pearls will join the Bold in sporting BlackBerry OS 4.6, and shots are surfacing of what exactly that'll look like once it gets grafted onto T-Mobile's WiFi-equipped 8220 model. As one might expect, it looks like it's taking a lot of UI cues already seen and enjoyed on the Bold with the usual T-Mobile twists added in like myFaves support; in particular, we're loving the insanely slick stopwatch display. Too bad we'll use it... oh, never. Cell Phone Signal likes October for the 8220's release, which runs the risk of burying it beneath the Dream -- maybe that rumored $50 out-the-door price can move a few, though. That, or overflow once the Dream stock dries up. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
