  • T-Mobile likely to skip HSPA+, head straight to LTE

Filed under: T-Mobile , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , Misc , HSUPA , LTE When you know what's just around the bend, biting on the best the world has now is that much more difficult. Just ask T-Mobile International, who told Unstrung at the World Telecoms Conference in London that it would probably bypass the whole HSPA+ thing and look straight to LTE . More specifically, CTO Joachim Horn noted that "if I need to invest into more hardware, I think it's better to start early [with LTE]. LTE is a more future-oriented technology." He did admit that T-Mobile would "deploy HSPA as long as there is no hardware replacement necessary," but that means the current 3G network would only ever hit 14.4Mbit/sec (at most). Interestingly enough, Horn also showed interest in TD-LTE, which China Mobile is currently backing as a migration path from TD-SCDMA . At any rate, T-Mob users should probably hope LTE gets here in a hurry, particularly now that you know what you're waiting for. • T-Mobile gets official with next wave of 3G rollouts

Filed under: T-Mobile , Misc As if it wasn't official enough (and it never really is , is it?), T-Mobile is clarifying and reiterating its intentions to bring 3G to more locales before the dawn of 2009. After launching coverage this week in Sacramento, California, the outfit is now turning its eyes to the nation's capital. In late November, Washington, DC will get blanketed with T-Mobile 3G, and Memphis / Tampa should be getting lit here soon as well. Keep 'em coming, T-Mob -- you've a ways to go still. • ASUS Eee 901Go is A Killer device. (This is not a review)

There’s no doubt that the low-cost netbook trend will affect pro-mobile sales. It’s likely to affect laptop sales too. People in the industry are already hinting to me that they have problems. OEMS can’t price and position pro-mobile devices with confidence and specialist resellers have problems choosing which devices to stock. They don’t want [...]
  • T-Mobile to turn 3G USB dongles into Wi-Fi routers with new service

Ever felt the need to share the relatively fast 3G mobile broadband access you’re getting from your USB dongle to friends when you’re with them? Well, T-Mobile is looking to allow you to do just that, with a new product and service to be launched in the “next couple of days.” The plan is to make [...]
  • T-Mobile's data coverage maps now have added 3G flavor

Filed under: T-Mobile , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , Misc Check it out, from this zoom level Chicago's looking flush as far as T-Mobile 3G is concerned -- yeah, that's right, it seems they've gotten to a point where they're actually willing to show it off. We're betting T-Mobile's Android-based G1 announcement that's set for tomorrow was the impetus for this update, and we suspect we'll learn more about the network then. Feel free to put the site through its paces in your neck of the woods and let us know if you're one of the lucky places. Hit the read link to play with the map, but make sure you tick the "data coverage" option at the bottom of the page first. [Via SlashPhone ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • T-Mobile’s coverage maps now include 3G

Just about every time we’ve mentioned T-Mobile’s 3G rollout, someone has stopped by to ask their fellow commenters for insight on what the coverage might be like in their specific city. Unfortunately, their inquiries generally went unanswered. Now that T-Mobile has gotten around to adding 3G signal to their coverage map, curious commenters now have [...]
  • T-Mobile to have 3G live in 21 markets by end of October

Filed under: T-Mobile , HSDPA , UMTS If you've invested in one of those Sony Ericsson TM506s being offered by T-Mobile, it certainly helps if you've got some place to take advantage of its carrier-first HSDPA support -- and while it's going to be a while (a good, long while) before you find it blanketing every square inch of T-Mobile's coverage, you'll at least have a few more cities in which to play by the time that all-important G1 launches next month. Thirteen cities have officially launched so far, with another 8 coming online in the coming weeks, another 7 beyond that by the end of the year, and "meaningful expansion to additional customers and markets through 2009." In case you'd like 'em to be showing a little more hustle here (and who wouldn't?), it looks like the government is still holding things up ; T-Mobile specifically mentions in its press release that it's continuing to "work closely and effectively together" with the Departments of Commerce, Justice, and Defense to speed things along and free up AWS spectrum as quickly as possible. In the meantime, follow the break for the full list of cities that'll be 3G-ready by the end of 2008. • T-Mobile confirms 3G rollout plans: 21 markets by mid-October, 27 by end of 2008

While we’ve known a bit about T-Mobile’s 3G rollout plans for a while, it has all come from hearsay and posters taped to windows. T-Mobile finally came out and announced their plans this morning with a good ol’ fashion press release: 27 markets by the end of 2008, with 21 of those swimmin’ in the [...]
  • T-Mobile plans to be serving 21 markets with 3G by middle of next month

Filed under: T-Mobile , HSDPA How convenient , T-mobile. That $199, Android-flaunting, 3G HTC G1 , to be officially unveiled next week, is supposed to start selling on October 17th , just when the carrier plans to flip the HSDPA switch on eight new markets: Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Orlando, Philadelphia, Sacramento, San Francisco and Seattle. T-Mobile plans to follow those up with Birmingham, Denver, Detroit, Kansas City, Memphis and Tampa by the end of the year, covering about two-thirds of its customers with 3G before 2009 rolls around. It's been a rough few years for the T-Mobile faithful, but it looks an end is in sight -- at least for the urban among us. Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • T-Mobile flips the 3G-switch on Philadelphia

T-Mobile’s 3G network rollout seems to really be gaining steam. The latest market to get turned on to T-Mobile’s 1700Mhz AWS 3G network is apparently Philadelphia. A Howard Forums user apparently started seeing 3G data speeds yesterday, essentially confirming that T-Mobile decided to flip the 3G-switch on Philly. The “City of Brotherly Love” has got [...]
  • Samsung T919 - Another T-Mobile 3G handset hits the FCC

T-Mobile’s AWS 1700Mhz 3G network is starting to take its first steps in to the world of nationwide 3G, and with T-Mobile expected to bring more than a couple dozen additional 1700Mhz 3G markets online by October, it makes sense that manufacturers are starting to warm up to T-Mobile’s own special flavor of 3G. The 1700Mhz [...]
