  • Nokia USA taking names for N79 and N85

Filed under: Handsets , Nokia , Symbian Whoa, whoa! Calm down just a second there, buddy, we didn't say they're shipping -- they're not -- but keep your chin up, because they're getting close. To prove it, Nokia USA has started taking pre-orders for North American versions of its lovely N79 and N85 superphones. No estimated shipping date is showing up just yet, but we're assured that they "get it first, so you get it first" -- bold words for a direct retailer that frequently gets beaten by third-party distributors with the hot new models. We'll see. [Via Symbian-Guru ] Nokia USA taking names for N79 and N85 originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Thu, 06 Nov 2008 09:39:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds . • Samsung's S60-based I7110: HSDPA, AMOLED display, 5MP camera

Filed under: Handsets , Samsung , Symbian , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA Hardware fanatics, listen up -- a golden egg has been laid in the form of the Samsung I7110. Arriving with a slightly sleeker design than on the earlier spotted i7110c , this Symbian S60-based candybar has been revealed to the world today in London. Specs wise, you're looking at a luscious 2.6-inch AMOLED display, FM radio / transmitter , GPS navigation (with geotagging functionality), an accelerometer, "3D graphics," Bluetooth 2.0, HSDPA and WiFi. Additionally, it packs a 5-megapixel camera (with Auto Focus and a LED flash), robust multimedia player (DivX support included), 50MB of internal memory, a microSDHC slot, video recording, 11-hours of talk time and a 12.9-millimeter thin body. Price remains a mystery, but those in Russia will be the first in the know when it launches there next month. As for everyone else? Patience. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • North American Nokia N79 gets FCC approval

Filed under: Handsets , Nokia , Symbian , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS You know what warms our hearts and brings a tear to our weary eye? Opening up the FCC paperwork for a so-called "Nokia RM-350" and being greeted with two things: one, a picture of an N79 just stone-cold chilling on a table, and two, a long-ass table of supported frequencies -- North American 3G stuff included -- with a bunch of "PASSED" remarks next to them. That's the FCC's way of saying "we likey," and you know what? We likey, too. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • AT&T's BlackBerry Curve 8320 (and friends) make an appearance

Filed under: Handsets , Nokia , RIM , Samsung , ATT , Symbian , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS If you've been jonesing for a few more shots of that trippy Samsung a637 that's starting to trickle into AT&T stores... well, here you are. We also have additional footage of Nokia's carrier-branded 6650 and 2600 classic , and new to this photo batch is the Curve 8320 , one-upping AT&T's existing 8300 with WiFi (not to say you'd really know it from a dummy model). A little something for everyone here, really. [Thanks, Andy C.] Gallery: AT&T's BlackBerry Curve 8320 (and friends) make an appearance Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Nokia's E75 QWERTY slider spotted in the wild

Filed under: Handsets , Nokia , Symbian Espoo's usually a pretty cold place, but HTC's S740 has to feel the heat coming off Nokia headquarters now that the purported E75 slider has been spotted in its natural habitat. We don't have a ton of information about this thing, but considering the length of time that transpired between the E71's first spy shot and its release, we do know that we could still be in for a bit of a wait before this thing is announced, much less retailed. If Nokia manages to keep the thickness in check, we're thinking this could be a fantastic form factor for S60, Eseries or otherwise -- and since the phone borrows heavily from the ID of the beautiful E71, we're optimistic it's going to be a looker. Let's just get it out the door in a reasonable amount of time, alright? [Thanks, African Remix] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Nokia 6650, 2600 classic, and a funny Samsung show up in AT&T stores

Filed under: Handsets , Nokia , Samsung , ATT , Symbian , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS It's that most exciting time again for AT&T store owners and their customers -- yes, that's right, it's dummy time. Empty husks representing the Nokia 6650 and 2600 classic are now finding their way into employee hands, along with a rather curious Samsung that we're told might be the a637. Seriously, Sammy's done just about every form factor and gone down just about every design direction, but does this translucent white pill of a candybar not look completely fresh? Looks pretty low-end -- GoPhone territory, if we had to guess -- but if you covered up the logo, we'd guess Pantech, LG... heck, even Huawei before we put our money on Samsung. Stay tuned for versions of these things with actual electrical circuitry in 'em; they can't be far off now. • Nokia's E72 slider and E75 candybar with QWERTY keyboards leaked

Filed under: Handsets , Nokia , Symbian A Nokia promotional video has apparently been leaked to YouTube revealing a pair of an unannounced, business-minded handsets: the E72 QWERTY slider and E75 QWERTY candybar. Check all the hot corporate, S60 video action after the break -- who knew architectural planning could be so easy? • Samsung i7110c breaks cover: business in the front, party in the back

Filed under: Handsets , Samsung , Symbian No, no -- Sammy wouldn't dare dub this the Mullet, although we have a sneaking suspicion it would sell quite well here in the south if such a bold decision were made. Nevertheless, the i7110c (that's more like it, no?) has just been revealed, and while a great deal of mystery still surrounds it, we are told that it will likely boast a QVGA display, a navigational cube that acts as a cursor controller, 5-megapixel camera (with flash), microSD expansion slot, multimedia player, Bluetooth and an FM tuner. We must say, we're strangely attracted to the harmonious mix of business-like design cues and consumer-friendly attributes, though it would be nice if Samsung came on out and made this thing official. • FCC meets, greets NAM version of Nokia's XpressMusic 5320

Filed under: Handsets , Nokia , Symbian , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS A non-Nseries S60 Nokia with HSDPA 850 / 1900 -- now there's a novel concept. The XpressMusic 5320 isn't quite as funky looking as its good buddy, the 5220, but we'll take what we can get (and really, there's still a touch of funkiness going on in that crazy keypad there anyway). Nokia has actually only announced this version for Latin America at this point, but what do you wanna bet a heaping handful of 'em make it up to the more northerly regions of the hemisphere? • Nokia ushers power-packed 6220 classic into India

Filed under: Handsets , Nokia , Symbian , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Indians are among the very first lucky denizens of the world to get a crack at Nokia's 6220 classic , one of the high-end handsets introduced at Mobile World Congress back in February. Though it doesn't get slapped with an Nseries label, it probably should on account of a 5 megapixel camera with xenon flash, AGPS, TV-out, and HSDPA, all underpinned by S60 -- so why isn't it an N something-or-other, then? Our only guess is that it takes a moderately different, more conservative styling direction than the modern Nseries line, because we'd argue the local asking price of 19,959 rupees (about $464) is more than enough to push it into "multimedia computer" category. • Samsung intros the snoozefest J800 Luxe and L700 cellphones

Filed under: Handsets , Samsung , Symbian , HSDPA It looks like the folks at Samsung are keeping the fires burning with a batch of new handsets announced at the Singapore Telecommunications Exhibition. First on the block is the 3G, J800 Luxe slider, a mid-range phone with a 2.2-inch 176 x 200 display, two megapixel camera, FM tuner, A2DP support, and a slot for microSD cards. The electronics-maker is also offering the L700, a fairly unexciting candybar with a 2.1-inch screen, HSDPA, a choice of colors (pink, silver, and gold), and pretty much all the other features listed for the previous phone. The most interesting offering from this set is the Symbian-based L870 that we've seen previously , which the company claims is still on target for its August release. No word on pricing or release dates for the two new models, however. [Thanks, Craig] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • NTT DoCoMo getting the Nokia 6124 classic, too?

Filed under: Handsets , Nokia , Symbian , NTT DoCoMo , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS We know that Nokia's got a version of its recently-announced 6124 classic midrange S60 candybar designed to support i-mode, but it's not meant for NTT DoCoMo itself; instead, it's being shipped off to Taiwan where Far EasTone licenses the i-mode service. New FCC documents reveal that the mothership might want a piece of the action, too, though. Actually, never mind the "might" -- the carrier's logo is pretty clearly emblazoned across the rear, so we're going to go ahead and say that Japanese S60 fans can look forward to another munition in their relatively thin arsenal sometime soon.
