  • Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot candybar really the Filippa?

Filed under: Handsets , Sony Ericsson , ATT , GSM , EDGE Kudos, SE -- you've had our minds fixed on this elusive Cyber-shot candybar of yours for a solid half-month. We've now learned that the handset formerly known as Kate may actually be revealed as the Filippa, but we wouldn't be shocked to hear it referred to as the Kyliowooka next week. According to new images over at SEMC Blog , this here handset will indeed boast a 5-megapixel AF camera, video out, a 2.2-inch QVGA display, M2 card slot, 140MB of built-in memory and the ability to capture QVGA video. You'll also find a Xenon flash, face detection / smile shutter, HSUPA, an active lens cover and YouTube support. Now, if only we knew how legitimate all of this was... • Sony Ericsson's GreenHeart in the environmentally friendly flesh

Filed under: Handsets , Sony Ericsson Now we've got a photo to go along with the announcement of Sony Ericsson's GreenHeart concept phone -- and if this is what saving the environment looks like, we approve. It looks sorta like a retooled W880 , but you won't find any brushed aluminum here; instead, the GreenHeart's made with some crazy plastics that go easy on mother nature. It's bundled with a new charger that shuts off when the phone doesn't need any juice to save energy, but one think it's not bundled with is a manual -- the guide is entirely electronic to save paper. The granola candybar isn't slated for production, but we'll see a number of technologies developed for it come about in retail models over the next few years. • Sony Ericsson depletes stash of product names, announces slim T700 phone

Filed under: Handsets , Sony Ericsson , GSM , HSDPA , UMTS Yippee, it's T700 day at Sony. First they launched the DSC-T700 digicam , now the T700 cellphone. The T700 candybar is mostly phone though with a smattering of camera just for kicks. We're talking quad-band GSM and UMTS/HSDPA 2100 with 4.5-hours of 3G talk and a 3.2 megapixel camera with cell-id geotagging and photo light. It measures just 10-mm thin with Bluetooth A2DP, 2-inch TFT LCD, and 512MB of Memory Stick Micro (M2) storage tossed in the box. Available in "select markets" in Q4 for what's expected to be a middling price tag. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Sony Ericsson's T610-ish Remi in the wild

Filed under: Handsets , Sony Ericsson , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Like virtually all other Sony Ericsson hardware (sorry, Sony Ericsson, but it's true), the Remi is getting a full pictorial ahead of a presumed official announcement in the coming weeks or months. Pegged as a spiritual successor to the wildly popular T610 by fans, Remi (whose real model number hasn't been deduced yet) should end up essentially being a W890 in slightly tamer clothing. Thin, fast, and pretty -- sounds about right for a T610 descendent, assuming the boys and girls in London can deliver. [Via Sony Ericsson Blog ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Sony Ericsson W302 revealed

Filed under: Handsets , Sony Ericsson , GSM , EDGE If you were thinking to yourself, "gee whiz, if only Sony Ericsson had made a Walkman version of the S302 ," well, your life is now complete. The sporty, hipper version of the S302 Snapshot is predictably hot-rodded up, though the changes seem to be strictly visual -- from a guts perspective, the W302 (codenamed "Feng," it seems) should be a dead ringer for its recently announced cousin. Sony Ericsson Blog claims we can expect to see it announced on July 22 alongside the W595 and W902, with a release in October. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Sony Ericsson "Patti" phone shows itself, gets renamed W902

Filed under: Handsets , Sony Ericsson A single shot of Sony Ericsson's "Patti" candybar phone was apparently making the rounds earlier this week, but a helpful member of the SE4M forums has now thankfully provided a whole batch of pics, as well as word that the phone has now been officially dubbed the W902. Apart from the 5-megapixel autofocus camera with an LED flash, however, this one looks to be a pretty standard SE handset, with it boasting all the usual Walkman-related features and tried and true design you've come to expect. No word on a release just yet, but you can at least get a good look at it by hitting up the link below. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Sony Ericsson's "Remi" -- W890 style, minus the W?

Filed under: Handsets , Sony Ericsson , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS It looks like Sony Ericsson's finally getting around to producing an ultra-thin candybar that isn't all dolled up in Walkman branding, which should be music to the ears of folks who hate music of all kinds (you know who you are). We jest -- obviously, the Walkman image isn't for everyone, and modern non-Walkman Sony Ericssons typically have plenty of prowess for busting out the tunes -- so we're actually seeing people from all walks of life being able to get into this so-called "Remi". The rumored handset looks plenty real in these shots posted over on se-nse, and the specs sound legit, too: HSDPA, a 3.2 megapixel cam, and a body measuring somwhere in the neighborhood of 10mm thick -- all attributes borrowed from its W890 cousin. Pictured next to the Remi on the right is the legendary T610, a phone that holds a very special place in the hearts of they Sony Ericsson faithful; with its aluminum shell and two-tone face, it's pretty obvious that the Remi is trying to tastefully evoke the T610's cues, so let's just hope there's some bite behind the bark when it launches. • Sony Ericsson reveals J132 / K330 entry-level candybars

Filed under: Handsets , Sony Ericsson , GSM , EDGE Just when you thought Sony's barrage of new kit from CommunicAsia was finally slowing up, along comes another pair of handsets to prove us all wrong. First up is the simplistic J132, designed to do little more than talk, text, resist dust and tune into FM radio stations. Still, the 9-hours of talk time (450 in standby) is much appreciated. The K330 steps it up by including Bluetooth and a video capture mode, not to mention the 1.7-inch display, VGA camera and Health mate application. The J132 will be available in Night Black and Heaven Blue for "select markets" in Q4, while the K330 arrives in Gold on Black / Green on Black a quarter earlier. Keep an eye out for the J132a and K330a, both of which support GSM 850 / 1900 bands for the US market. • KDDI au announces Summer 2008 collection

Filed under: Handsets , Features , Pantech , Sanyo , Sharp , Sony Ericsson , KDDI , EV-DO , Kyocera , CDMA , Casio , Toshiba In Japan, carriers tend to release new models in giant, blockbuster batches -- seasonal "collections" that leave the rest of the world green with envy. KDDI au is no exception, having just announced its predictably spectacular Summer 2008 lineup with entrants from Kyocera, Sony Ericsson, Sanyo, Sharp, Toshiba, Casio, and Korea's Pantech. Here's the rundown: Hitachi Wooo W62H. KDDI is emphasizing this one's video and 3D gaming capabilities, both of which are assisted by the presence of a 2-way hinge for flipping out the screen in a landscape orientation. Comes in blue, silver, and black. Sharp W62SH. The FM transmitter's kinda cool, and the three-inch WVGA screen should be perfect for watching Spiderman 2, which comes bundled with the phone. Purple, white, and gold are the color choices. Sanyo W63SA. Global CDMA roaming and an integrated English-Japanese dictionary makes this one a solid choice for world travelers. Get this one in red, silver, or black. Toshiba Sportio. As the name implies, this one's all about burnin' those calories with an integrated calorie counter. The candybar form factor is a refreshing change of pace in the lineup, but too bad about that QVGA display! Five colors to choose from here: orange, black, white, green, and red. Casio G'zOne W62CA. Like its counterparts on Verizon, the W62CA is designed to take a beating without falling apart. It's impact resistant and waterproof, features a compass, thermometer, and GPS, and naturally, one-seg TV. Get it in green, black, or white. Sanyo W64SA. This fashionable flip has some crazy light effects to go along with its crazy selection of colors, but other than that, it seems pretty pedestrian. If you can call a 2.8-inch WVGA display "pedestrian." It's available in pink, white, yellow, and black. Sony Ericsson Full Change re. The...
  • Sony Ericsson's G502 candybar breaks cover

Filed under: Handsets , Sony Ericsson , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Anyone hoping for another UIQ -based superphone can avert their eyes right now, but otherwise, hold on -- Sony Ericsson might just be onto something with its upcoming G502. The sleek black candybar should freshen the dead center of SE's lineup with a QVGA display, 2 megapixel camera, HSDPA, Memory Stick M2-expandable storage, and the NetFront browser that's become a hallmark of Sony Ericsson's better non-smartphone devices. Rumor has it it'll get official on the 24th -- just two short days from now -- so get your popcorn ready, or whatever it is that you and your family do when you're gathering around the computer in anticipation of a new handset announcement. • More shots of Sony Ericsson's still-unannounced "BeiBei"

Filed under: Handsets , Sony Ericsson , Symbian , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Sony Ericsson's leaky enough so that we've had no problem believing that the BeiBei is dead real, but as we've seen with the M610i , a very real and very well-developed Sony Ericsson prototype by no means guarantees a release. That being said, we're starting to get pumped that this one might live long enough to see a store shelf or two -- particularly considering that it's said to rock UIQ 3.3 and looks a heck of a lot better now in its dark, handsome color scheme that the last time we saw it . So, anyone want to get a launch date pool going? This quarter? Next? 2009? [Via Unofficial Sony Ericsson Blog ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Sony Ericsson K850 poster for AT&T spotted in the wild

Filed under: Handsets , Sony Ericsson , ATT , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Okay, first, a word of caution: we've heard some conflicting reports that the K850 may have been canceled from AT&T's roadmap because it missed its "launch window." That being said, this poster -- spotted in an actual retail location, not deep in an AT&T workshop somewhere -- sure makes us believe it's still very much in the works. Come on, guys, you're not going to let Rogers show you up, are you? Also, what's this business about "video phone" and "video calls"? Sounds an awful lot like honest-to-goodness two-way video instead of that whole Video Share thing, doesn't it? [Thanks, brainsonthemonitor] Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
