  • Sony Ericsson’s Paris and BeiBei go bye-bye

The “smartphone” factor was mysteriously missing from Sony Ericsson’s June 17th announcement of five new cell phones in the low to mid-end categories (with the exception of the C905 and its wonderful 8.1 megapixel camera), but given the leaked product pages and what not, we wouldn’t have been wrong to assume that Sony Ericsson might [...]
  • Sony Ericsson deep-sixes Paris and G702?

Filed under: Handsets , Sony Ericsson , Symbian , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Yeah, the just-announced C905 plugs a gaping hole in the high end, but Sony Ericsson's in desperate need of as many smartphones as it can get its hands on right now -- and a smartphone is one thing the C905 is not. The flagship P1i isn't getting any younger, neither the G700 nor G900 are inspiring a lot of emotion, and the M610i (which wasn't particularly fascinating to begin with) was canceled before it ever hit the market. Could the Paris -- or P5, or P10, or whatever it's called -- and the G702 BeiBei have met the same fate? That's what the Unoffical Sony Ericsson Blog is claiming, suggesting that intense criticism from sites that got early peeks at the devices let to their untimely demise while leaving the window open for a possible limited release in Asia (not unlike the Motorola MPx , if our memories serve us correctly). The way we see it, Sony Ericsson's just a little too oblivious to be that responsive to the user community (case in point: M2 cards), so we're more keen to chalk it up to technical glitches or a homegrown realization that the devices just weren't what the market needed. By the same token, it seems like they can't afford to throw these efforts out the door altogether; it'd put them hopelessly far behind the competition in the smartphone arena, so hopefully they're just retooling and learning some lessons as they go. • Sony Ericsson P10, G702, F305, S302, and C905 product pages leaked

Sony Ericsson has already prepared what are to be the product pages of the upcoming handsets that they will launch at tomorrow’s event in Amsterdam. As you are probably already aware, the event will see the official introduction of the Sony Ericsson G702 BeiBei, S302 Snapshot, and F305 Fun phones. The 8 megapixel Cybershot C905 is [...]
  • Sony Ericsson beibei promo video slips through

Sony ericsson hasn’t even announced the beibei yet, otherwise known as the G702 or ‘the worst kept secret in the industry’. This video below more than confirms its existence however and also shows off some of its tricks. Expect a full press release soon but in the meantime, introducing the Sony Ericsson G702… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alZ1h8vaBUk
  • Sony Ericsson G702 "BeiBei" gets video promo, still not announced

Filed under: Handsets , Sony Ericsson , Symbian , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS The mythical G702 "BeiBei" is one of those phones that feels like it's released, even though it's not, simply because it's been scooped into oblivion on countless occasions at this point. Heck, it's not even announced yet. But, you know, if there was anything else you still needed to know about this touchscreen UIQ-based candybar, look no further than YouTube, where a brief Sony Ericsson-produced promotional video for the G702 has surfaced. We see a few seconds of the stylus in action, and that's about it; anyone left wanting more is probably going to have to wait until June 17, when it appears the company will be throwing an event in Amsterdam. It's presumed that the G702 will be announced here, possibly alongside the Paris -- though we're well accustomed to disappointment, so we're going to try to keep our toyed-with emotions in check here until we see something official. • Sony Ericsson G702 “BeiBei” gets FCC approval

Ha! Who would’ve thought that this mysteriously white Symbian-powered touchscreen phone from Sony Ericsson had a model number designation after all? As it appears, the Sony Ericsson BeiBei, which we have been seeing in the wild for quite some time now, is actually the Sony Ericsson G702, and is now geared towards a launch date [...]
  • Sony Ericsson's G702 "BeiBei" breaks cover, FCC style

Filed under: Handsets , Sony Ericsson , Symbian , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS It's pretty rare that we learn about a new Sony Ericsson from our good friends at the Federal Communications Commission, so let's all relish in this moment, shall we? The long-rumored "BeiBei" has finally earned confirmation of its existence thanks to the obligatory round of FCC testing, and we now know that this Symbian-equipped powerhouse is going to be known as the G702 (the specific example submitted here appears to be a G702c variant). As is too often the case with Sony Ericsson's wares, this one will do 3G only on the 2100MHz band but also features quadband GSM plus EDGE for travelers and yanks willing to deal with a nerfed phone. Other goodies include GPS, WiFi, a touchscreen ( a la the G700 and G900 ), and a spectacular array of micro-buttons in the area surrounding the scroll wheel, so we should all shake our fist at the sky and curse Sony Ericsson once again for leaving the US empty-handed. • Sony Ericsson BeiBei pics in the wild, again

BeiBei’s back, quite literally. And it also comes with a stylus. If you found my last two sentences a bit puzzling, simply scroll down to see a couple of photos of Sony Ericsson’s mysterious touchscreen Walkman phone, codenamed BeiBei. We were first offered a close-up look of the Sony Ericsson BeiBei a few days ago, via [...]
  • Sony Ericsson BeiBei spotted in the wild wearing white

Sony Ericsson has been very tight-lipped so far about their new device, which is codenamed BeiBei, but fortunately we are lucky enough to keep finding interesting bits of information as the days pass by towards its still unknown launch and release date. Here we see the Symbian UIQ powered little number, sporting a different color from [...]
  • Sony Ericsson BeiBei gets pictured

If there's one thing Sony Ericsson does well, it's pumping out tons of super-stylish and slim candybar/monoblock handsets powered by UIQ. The newest unannounced monoblock from the Swedish-Japanese duo is the SE "BeiBei" that you see pictured here. Thanks to the folks over at The Unofficial Sony Ericsson Blog, we've got this nice, clear spy-shot [...]
  • More shots of Sony Ericsson's still-unannounced "BeiBei"

Filed under: Handsets , Sony Ericsson , Symbian , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Sony Ericsson's leaky enough so that we've had no problem believing that the BeiBei is dead real, but as we've seen with the M610i , a very real and very well-developed Sony Ericsson prototype by no means guarantees a release. That being said, we're starting to get pumped that this one might live long enough to see a store shelf or two -- particularly considering that it's said to rock UIQ 3.3 and looks a heck of a lot better now in its dark, handsome color scheme that the last time we saw it . So, anyone want to get a launch date pool going? This quarter? Next? 2009? [Via Unofficial Sony Ericsson Blog ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Sony Ericsson's "BeiBei" to be unveiled Wednesday?

Filed under: Handsets , Sony Ericsson , Symbian The Unofficial Sony Ericsson Blog is reporting that Sony Ericsson's rather stellar showing at Mobile World Congress isn't quite over yet. As you might recall, the joint venture owns UIQ , so it would make some good sense that it'd save a couple surprises for UIQ's MWC press conference, which doesn't go down until the tail end of the show on Wednesday. One of those surprises might just be this, a UIQ-powered candybar going by the codename "BeiBei" that features a dizzying (and frankly, nonsensical) array of navigation buttons and a fairly buttoned-up appearance that should appeal to businessfolk. Another possible UIQ debut is said to be "Paris," a higher end device. If this all pans out, it was rather brilliant of Sony Ericsson to let the X1 fervor calm down before launching another volley, wasn't it? Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
