  • Sony Ericsson launches HPM-88 noise-cancelling headphones

Noise-cancelling headphones are the greatest invention since sliced bread: once you’ve tried them, you can’t go back. Especially if you spend a lot of time on tubes, trains or planes. Sony Ericsson knows this: it’s why they’ve launched the HPM-88 noise-cancelling headphones. It’s apparently the first noise-cancelling headset that’s powered by your phone itself, rather than [...]
  • smartWatchM hooks Sony Ericsson watches up with WinMo, adds features

Filed under: Peripherals , Software , Sony Ericsson , Windows Mobile Who says you need a Sony Ericsson phone for a Sony Ericsson watch to function correctly? Well, Sony Ericsson does, but xda-developers is taking a slightly different tune. Member moneytoo over on the Windows Mobile hacking haven has fashioned "smartWatchM," an app that not only gets the Sony Ericsson Bluetooth wristwatch of your choice up and running on Windows Mobile 5 and 6 devices, but -- get this -- actually manages to make it more functional than it is on Sony Ericsson's own phones. Besides the usual caller ID, SMS, MMS, and out of range notifications, smartWatchM adds weather, your task list, operator, profile, and phone battery / signal strength, among other things. Now before you get all worked into a lather about this, Sony Ericsson, bear in mind that this app is only going to sell more of your fricking watches, okay? • Sony Ericsson releases female Bluetooth headset HBH-PV712

Filed under: Peripherals , Sony Ericsson , Accessories Nice kit, though we question if this really is every woman's must-have handbag accessory. The Sony Ericsson HBH-PV712's pack-ins include two interchangeable style-up covers, a unique lanyard as necklace, handsome travel bag, and a charger. The set itself features 15 hour talk time, 500 hours of standby time, weighs 14 grams, and DSP with fast automatic volume adjustment. Here's hoping they release a Man's man version with an NHL Hockey motif, packed in a semi-ruined mini gym bag -- including all the required dirt and stains -- and scented with the finest meat and potatoes. • Sony Ericsson HBH-PV703 Bluetooth headset quitely released

We’re used to manufacturers flooding the interwebs with press releases and pictures of their newest product launch, but it seems Sony Ericsson has decided to take the more modest approach. Hidden within a press release for their Sony Ericsson K660i is a mid-range Bluetooth headset - the Sony Ericsson HBH-PV703 Bluetooth headset. The Sony Ericsson HBH-PV703 Bluetooth headset isn’t that much of a looker - it’s a mid-level model, after all - but it boasts some fairly impressive battery life. A full-charge is good for 10 hours of talk-time or 350 hours of standby-time, so you’ll likely never miss a call for want of power. The Sony Ericsson HBH-PV703 also features automatic pairing, voice dialing, and Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR. We’re expecting the Sony Ericsson HBH-PV703 Bluetooth headset to drop in Q1 2008, price is not yet known. • Sony Ericsson sneaks in HBH-PV703 headset with K660 reveal

Filed under: Sony Ericsson , Accessories Tucked deep in the darkest recesses of the press release for Sony Ericsson's K660 candybar , it turns out, lies a little diamond in the rough: the HBH-PV703 Bluetooth headset. Alright, calling it a diamond in the rough might be just a little lofty -- it certainly doesn't look like anything special, after all -- but the company is looking to call some attention to its rather impressive 10 hours of talk time and 350 hours of standby. It's Bluetooth 2.0 compatible and offers up auto-pairing capability, awesome for those incapable of remembering the "0000" that a good 80 percent of headsets on the market use. It'll hit in the first quarter of next year in grey or black; price hasn't been announced and will vary by region, but we're guessing this one lies on the lower end of Sony Ericsson's headset spectrum. • Sony busts out headphones big and small

Filed under: Peripherals , Sony Ericsson Sony looks to be catering to headphone-wearers of all sorts with its latest offerings, busting out the full-size DR-BT22 Bluetooth phones alongside the decidedly small DR-EX32SF earbud headset. In addition to keeping things cordless, the DR-BT22 model also keeps things relatively compact with a foldable design, and you'll get all the most desirable Bluetooth-related acronyms, including A2DP, AVRCP, HFP, and HSP. Those looking for even more portability can opt for the company's DR-EX32SF headset, which drops the Bluetooth but adds a built-in microphone (and your choice of black or white colors). While there doesn't appear to be any word on a North American release, those in Japan should be able to pick up either one starting September 10th, with the Bluetooth phones setting you back¥10,000 ($87) and the earbuds running just ¥3,000 ($26). • Sony Ericsson's HBH-DS980 Stereo Bluetooth Headset makes it past the FCC

We’ve got word that the successor to the Sony Ericsson HBH-DS970, the HBH-DS980, has just gotten the green-light from the FCC. The DS980 first popped onto our radar some time ago, so we’re excited to finally see this thing coming to The States. As Dusan said, the Sony Ericsson HBH-DS980 is a “stylish, charcoal-colored accessory [that] weighs just 27 g, but promises to deliver wireless music and calls with superior sound performance, even in noisy environments. The HBH-DS980 supports Bluetooth 2.0 standard along with A2DP (stereo via Bluetooth). The new headset also comes with the digital noise cancellation/echo reduction technology to reduce background noise, battery life that should support up to 6 hours of continuous usage, and the multipoint function to enable pairing with more than a single device at the same time.” We were expecting this thing to drop in Q3, so this FCC filing puts the newest SE headset on track for a timely launch. Keep reading for the FCC’s semi-dissected pics. • Sony Ericsson unveils headsets and GPS addon in Berlin

Filed under: Peripherals , Sony Ericsson Of course nothing complements a bevy of handset announcements like a similarly sized list of accessories, and Sony Ericsson has done itself proud today in that regard. Headsets -- both Bluetooth and wired -- were the order of the day with a smattering of GPS , desk stand, and FM transmitter thrown in for good measure. The HBH-DS200 is a pretty standard Bluetooth headset fare with shirt clip, a 3.5 mm jack to let you swap in your own cans (fantastic feature if you have a nice set at home) and up to 7 hours listening time; it'll ship in box with the W960 . The HPM-90 is a wired set but has a unique display on the cord that lists incoming caller info and track title. Third and last in the headset lineup is the HPM-83, yet another wired headset but it eschews the standard earbuds for a behind the neck-style headband and large ear pads. Also on the music-related front is the MMR-70 FM Music Transmitter which broadcasts the tunes from your handset via FM to your car or other radio and the MDS-65 Desk Stand that charges, acts as an antenna for the radio, and will even play back your music with its built-in speakers. But the best in show may be the HGE-100 (pictured above left) which can connect to any Java-enabled K800+ handset and does double duty as both GPS navigation and headset. %Gallery-3973% Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • Sony Ericsson's announcement: three-pack of new watches?

Filed under: Peripherals , Sony Ericsson So Sony Ericsson's really playing up the fact that they're announcing something tomorrow , but it's anybody's guess at this point just what it might be. There's no shortage of theories: the W999i , the Sofia -- but the rumor that's really picking up steam right now is that SE will drop three new Bluetooth wristwatch models. Really, it makes sense seeing how there's a big box on the teaser site that kinda looks like it could be holding a watch. Specifically, it's being said over on Esato that there will be three models announced, all of which will be smaller than the gargantuan original . One will be called the MBW-150, one will be Walkman branded, and two will have leather straps while the third will sport metal (starting to sound a little like a logic puzzle, isn't it?). Unlike the MBW-100, it sounds like all three will support AVRCP for music control. Thankfully, it's less than 24 hours until we get the official scoop. • Apple, Dell and Sony pinged for catch-all Bluetooth lawsuit

Filed under: Motorola , Nokia , Samsung , Sony Ericsson , Toshiba , Apple The University of Washington patent lawsuit , which already was ragging on Nokia, Samsung and Panasonic for supposed patent infringement, has now been expanded to encompass pretty much every big name in electronics. The name namers have added Apple, Dell, Sony, Logitech, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Toshiba and Plantronics to the suit, which is asking for money damages, and a court order to stop sales of products using the Washington Research Foundations claimed patents. Only manufacturers using Bluetooth tech from Broadcom, which has licensed the tech from the WRF, go untouched. No word on how far along this case is, but with this many corporate lawyers in the mix, we aren't expecting any substantial developments this century.
