  • Samsung Omnia arrives in Verizon’s stores

Samsung Omnia was spotted with Verizon’s logo on it about one month ago, but it’s still not officially released by the second largest US mobile carrier. However, BGR has come up with some live shots of the Windows Mobile 6.1 handset, straight from a Verizon retail store, which means that it won’t be long until the [...]
  • Samsung's Omnia found in the unforgiving wilds of a Verizon store

Filed under: Handsets , Samsung , Verizon Wireless , Windows Mobile , EV-DO , CDMA They're apparently not for sale yet -- stores don't even know what the pricing situation is -- but Verizon has starting shipping Samsung Omnias to at least some of its stores. For anyone not needing the global...um, "globalness" of the Saga or the QWERTY-ness of the upcoming Touch Pro , the Omnia certainly makes for an interesting option -- espeically in light of the TouchWiz support and the 5-megapixel cam. With units in stores now, it can't be long until we can actually buy these, can it? • Samsung Omnia makes official Verizon appearance

Filed under: Handsets , Samsung , Verizon Wireless , Windows Mobile , EV-DO , CDMA Not that we've any reason to be shocked here, but Samsung's Omnia is indeed coming to Verizon Wireless. 'Course, most everyone with any remote affiliation to Big Red is frenzied over that other phone today, but those with a soft spot for Windows Mobile 6.1 may want to give this one a bit of attention. You know the highlight specs by now -- a 5-megapixel camera / camcorder, full HTML browser and an expansive touchscreen -- but the nitty-gritty details are still being withheld. As of now, the link on Samsung's website tunnels straight to an error page, forcing us to be content with the knowledge that somehow, someday, this phone is destined for a life on VZW's shelves. Enlarged screengrab is after the jump. • Vodafone lays out the dope on Christmas extravaganza

Filed under: Handsets , Nokia , RIM , Samsung , Sony Ericsson Think you need to go all-in on a postpaid contract to get the best crap a carrier has to offer? Well, quite often you do -- but not on Vodafone in the UK, where its recently-announced Christmas lineup contains perfectly decent fare like the Samsung Steel and Omnia for £80 and £400, respectively. Granted, that's a little (okay, a lot) more than you'll pay on contract, but at least the options are there, right? Those two comprise part of a monstrous 16-phone lineup announced to lead Vodafone through the holiday sales rush, which includes the high-horsepower Sony Ericsson C905 and X1 , the Nokia N96 16GB, and the BlackBerry Storm on contract, among a host of others. Voda sweetens the pot for buyers of the Samsung G600 , Nokia 6500 Classic , and Sony Ericsson K770i by throwing in a digital photo frame, which particularly comes in handy with the G600's respectable 5-megapixel resolution. All told, the lineup's a little overwhelming, but if we had to choose between an overwhelming lineup and an anemic (read: American) one, you know which one we're picking ten times out of ten. • Samsung rolls out 115 mobile phone charging stations in US airports

If you do any kind of traveling through the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), you’re probably already well aware that Samsung Mobile has started distributing mobile phone charging stations throughout departure terminals. Samsung launched their airport mobile phone charging kiosks last year to help tech-addled travelers keep their electronic gadgets juiced up pre-flight. Samsung Mobile has [...]
  • UK: Samsung Pixon should be in-store at Phones 4U today!

Short and sweet this one - the Samsung Pixon is apparently in Phones 4U stores as of today. We’ve mentioned the device on IntoMobile before (here and here), so I won’t go in to uber-detail, other than to say it’s an 8MP touchscreen, with GPS on-board (and it’s not alone in that category this Christmas!). I [...]
  • Can Heidi Klum Save MediaFLO?

Today Qualcomm scored a huge coup for its MediaFLO mobile television service by winning the right to broadcast the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show and to create a 27/7 channel devoted to the event. All MediaFLO subscribers will be able to watch the broadcast when it airs on Dec. 3. The fashion show pulled in a television audience last year of 6.5 million , exactly mirroring the number of people who are watching any form of mobile TV, which includes options other than MediaFLO. But as the February transition to digital television looms, groups such as the National Association of Broadcasters and the Open Mobile Video Coalition (pushing a jointly developed LG and Samsung standard ) are seeking to develop alternate methods to watch TV on the go to avoid being beholden to wireless providers. The OMVC and it's backers are branching out beyond cellular networks, hoping to install their technology in cars and laptops. Should those efforts succeed, Qualcomm's investments in MediaFLO won't pan out. With its Ultra Mobile Broadband 4G wireless effort officially shuttered last week , Qualcomm needs to find another way to mint money. It still has a platform effort in Gobi, MediaFLO is still around, and 3G networks aren't going anywhere for a while, but Qualcomm built its success on controlling the IP for the widely adopted mobile standard CDMA. It can certainly play in other fields, but without a choke hold on some widely needed intellectual property, its negotiating power and royalty rates will be lessened. Image from CBS
  • Mobile makers launcher charger eco-rating scheme

With environmental campaigners up in arms about ’standby’ devices and unused chargers wasting electricity and strangling the very life out of the planet, it was inevitable that mobile manufacturers would have to address the issue. Nokia has made a particularly good start, with its ‘green’ charger, but for real change there needs to be action across [...]
  • Kodak suing LG and Samsung over cameraphone technology

Kodak, the camera manufacturer we all know and love, is opening up both barrels of legal shotgunnery on LG and Samsung for the camera modules and software they use in their phones. Supposedly the patent in question deals with “image capture, compression and data storage and a method for previewing motion images”. This litigation comes [...]

Today, T-Mobile is introducing web2go SM, an improved web browsing experience intended to make it easier to view and navigate the web from basic voice phones and smartphones alike. Additionally, it provides improved search with Yahoo! oneSearch, a customizable home page and a simplified shopping and download experience. With web2go, T-Mobile users [...]
  • Top five handset manufacturers get together for treehuggin' chargers

Filed under: LG , Motorola , Nokia , Samsung , Sony Ericsson , Accessories Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, LG, and Sony Ericsson probably don't see eye-to-eye on very many topics, but thankfully, they can all agree that Planet Earth is worth saving (or, at the very least, they can all agree that getting hated on by Greenpeace sucks). The five handset juggernauts have announced a common five-star rating system for phone chargers, making it easier for buyers to figure out which chargers consume the least energy; adapters that have features like automatic standby when the phone is finished charging will be awarded higher ratings. Nokia's been saying for some time that a ridiculous amount of energy is wasted every year by chargers that are idling their watts away plugged into fully-charged phones, so this could be a major step toward getting charger manufacturers to produce more advanced models en masse. T-Mobile’s Samsung Behold is now available in pink and “espresso” colours from T-Mobile, without so much as a press release. C’mon TMo, throw us a bone, here.
