  • Samsung trots out new Bluetooth headsets and speakerphones

Filed under: Peripherals , Samsung Samsung Mobile's got a fever, and the only cure is more... Bluetooth? Yeah, that's it, Bluetooth . Aside from launching the hilariously named Planet Bluetooth -- an "online guide to Bluetooth technology and Samsung Mobile's Bluetooth accessories" -- the outfit has also rolled out two new BT headsets and a pair of BT speakerphones. The WEP460 headset (pictured) specializes in being ultra-small and utilizing a clear ear hook to make you look even more extraterrestrial; the SBH700 stereo headset obviously caters to music lovers and those with slightly deeper pockets. The HKT450 and HKT400 portable BT speakerphones both do exactly what they say, with neither being particularly noteworthy. The bitter details are fleshed out in the read link below, and so far as we can tell, the whole crew is available now. • Sony Ericsson's MBW-200 Bluetooth watches for sporty she-geeks

Filed under: Peripherals , Sony Ericsson , Accessories When a press release is laced with words like "handbag," "sophisticated," and "vibrates," it's clearly targeting the fairer sex. Sony Ericsson's new MBW-200 watches display caller ID and rumble on the wrist when a call comes in to your Bluetooth connected cellphone. You can then reject or mute the call directly from the watch. The Fossil designed, glare- and scratch-resistant time keepers come in three versions -- Sparkling Allure, Contemporary Elegance and Evening Classic. Each is modeled above by three tennis players for not so obvious reasons. Available in Q4 for an undisclosed price. A few more pics after the break. • REDFLY now available for $499, purpose even less clear

Filed under: Peripherals , Windows Mobile , Accessories Sure, we just saw the Celio REDFLY unboxed last month, but come on -- you know you really wanted one of the Foleo-like WinMo "companions" all to yourself, and now you can have one -- for $499. Yep, 5 bills to use WinMo 5 or 6 on an 8-inch screen -- and you can't use it at all if you don't have your phone . Or, you could spend your money on something 1000x more useful and get one of the million netbooks that have been released since this thing was first announced , but hey -- don't let a silly thing like common sense stand between you and your phone's desire to be loved. One more short unboxing vid after the break. Continue reading REDFLY now available for $499, purpose even less clear Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Ozmo / Intel trumpet WiFi PAN for low-power devices, Bluetooth says "what?"

Filed under: Peripherals , Misc Look out, Bluetooth -- Ozmo Devices has its eyes set squarely on you. Okay, so maybe this whole thing isn't as adversarial as advertised, but there's no denying that the aforesaid company's latest initiative will target the exact same devices that BT is embedded within now. Ozmo has announced a partnership with Intel at Computex that will extend the latter company's Cliffside WiFi Personal Area Network (PAN) technology to "low-power devices." Essentially, WiFi radios that suck less juice nowadays would take on dual roles -- accessing WLAN networks and doing the duties typically reserved for Bluetooth -- which would enable devices to have one less component stuffed within bulking things up. As of now, there's been no takers on the design, but word on the street has Belkin already testing the approach out for kicks and giggles (or maybe something way more serious). • Lamborghini offers Bluetooth headset that doesn't break the bank

Filed under: Peripherals , Others , Accessories If you're not in the market -- or don't have the spare cake -- for your own Lamborghini, perhaps a Bluetooth headset featuring the bull logo might do? Lamborghini's founder's son, Tonino Lamborghini , has seemingly stepped into the design world by crafting a Bluetooth headset but ignored the time honored tradition of over charging. For $70 you get 6 hours of talk time, 160 hours standby time, the lovely charging bull logo, all in a pretty tiny 9-gram package. So if any of you are off to pick up a new Lambo this week, make sure you remind the dealer you expect one of these little guys free with your purchase. • Zeemote JS1 brings analog gaming to your Bluetooth-enabled handset

Filed under: Games , Peripherals , Accessories We had an opportunity to play with Zeemote 's -- this name is somehow familiar -- JS1 mobile joystick at MWC this week and while we first thought it a bit kitschy, it's actually a pretty amazing little device. Zeemote supplies an API to game developers and in short order -- apparently anyway -- the game can adapted to use the Bluetooth-enabled JS1as a controller. The device features an analog joystick and four user configurable triggers for control in a really comfortable controller that is small enough to pop into a pocket when not being used. The best bit is that it's not a gimmick, it works, and really well. We checked out the Heli game shown in the picture above and the JS1 really made the game fun to play. Games such as Tomb Raider, Hellstrike 3D, and Sonic have already been ported and we hope more to come, no word on pricing but we're not expecting this to be a pricey toy. • HTC, Parrot come clean with their love for one another

Filed under: Peripherals , HTC , Others , Accessories We though the whole idea behind Bluetooth was to create a universally compatible, short-range wireless protocol, but apparently that's not enough of a guarantee for HTC . The ruling patron saint of Windows Mobile devices has teamed up with Parrot , a rather large European manufacturer of Bluetooth accessories, to "align product roadmaps" in an effort to make their products more harmonious in each others' presence. All told, the announcement is rather vague, with the most telling line saying that the partnership will bring "expanded capabilities" to users' devices, whatever that means. HTC doesn't have much of a retail presence in the Bluetooth peripheral market, so could this be a prelude to an acquisition? • Jabra launches luxury JX20 Pura Titanium Edition

Filed under: Peripherals , Accessories Jabra launched this sleek thing at CES this week, with a body crafted from Titanium and glossy black accents, it is definitely looking the business. This new offering was designed by Jacob Jensen, the same fella who created Jabra's JX10 headset -- though this venture has way less gold. The device's specs are posted as having up to 6-hour talk time, Bluetooth 2.0, auto pairing, USB charging -- this is a must in our opinion -- a couple ear hooks , and a goodly assortment of ear gels. Though, with an MSRP of $179, we're thinking this will find its way onto a limited collection of ears. [Via PhoneArena ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • Hands-on with Motorola's S9-HD stereo Bluetooth headset

Filed under: Features , Multimedia , Peripherals , Accessories As mentioned a couple days ago, Motorola pushed out a pretty minor revision to its S9 stereo Bluetooth wraparound headset. We bumped into one while wandering the booth and snapped a few pics of it before it wandered away. First impressions -- without actually using it, cause, that's kinda gross -- are that physically, it looks just about identical to the previous effort with the small exception of the minor visible changes to the buds. %Gallery-13231% Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • Sony Ericsson releases female Bluetooth headset HBH-PV712

Filed under: Peripherals , Sony Ericsson , Accessories Nice kit, though we question if this really is every woman's must-have handbag accessory. The Sony Ericsson HBH-PV712's pack-ins include two interchangeable style-up covers, a unique lanyard as necklace, handsome travel bag, and a charger. The set itself features 15 hour talk time, 500 hours of standby time, weighs 14 grams, and DSP with fast automatic volume adjustment. Here's hoping they release a Man's man version with an NHL Hockey motif, packed in a semi-ruined mini gym bag -- including all the required dirt and stains -- and scented with the finest meat and potatoes. • Bluetrek unveils the Sense touch-sensitive Bluetooth headset

Filed under: Peripherals , Accessories Although we've certainly seen our share of glitz in the Bluetooth headset market, thankfully several manufacturers have realized that the less noticed a headset is, the better -- and Bluetrek's new Sense headset seems as low-key as any. The piano black device features a touch-sensitive talk button, voice alerts for common functions like redialing and pairing, voice dialing, and a detachable thin support wire designed for glasses-wearers. At £49 ($100), it's not necessarily the deal of the century, but it'll definitely stack up well against similarly austere headsets when it goes on sale early next year. • Iqua BH-702 Bluetooth pendant headset rolls through FCC

Filed under: Peripherals , Others , Accessories Iqua , maker of fine Bluetooth equipment everywhere, has hopped into the Bluetooth-headset-as-weird-jewellery business with the BH-702. Featuring A2DP for your wireless stereo listening enjoyment, 9 hours talk, 7 hours music, and 150 hours standby time, all on a 2 hour charge. The BH-702 hangs about your neck while in use, and while we dig the convenience, we often find that this configuration puts the mic. too far from your mouth and increases noise as it shuffles about on your clothing. No word on pricing or availability yet, but we expect now that this leg of the journey is done Iqua may just see fit to announce the thing. Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
