  • Palm launches unlocked Centro, gets Google Maps "My Location"

Filed under: Handsets , Software , Palm , ATT , Sprint , Verizon Wireless , GSM , EDGE We've seen the Centro in its Sprint , AT&T , and Verizon (to name a few) iterations, but global roamers and free agents of all sorts will be delighted to know that Palm's increasingly popular little smartphone is now available in a delicious unlocked GSM flavor. The device sports all the same specs as AT&T's model, but clocks in with a $299 price tag and plain gray numberpad instead of the telco version's shocking lime green variation . Alongside the carrier-free phone, Centros will also be nabbing a version of Google Maps with its " My Location " feature (long absent from GMaps on Palm phones) . Current AT&T and Verizon customers as well as new unlocked owners will be able to download the app tomorrow, with a software update for Sprint later this Summer. Finally, you'll all know where you are. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Palm Centro now official on AT&T

Filed under: Handsets , Palm , ATT , Palm OS , GSM , EDGE Wow, sure enough, those green buttons are straight up legit -- who'd have thought? The long-rumored GSM cut of the Palm Centro is now officially available on AT&T in the wake of Sprint's expiring exclusivity, giving a whole new world of customers access to the freakishly small (yet strangely adorable) Garnet handset. Unlike Sprint's version , the GSM Centro tops out with EDGE data for a moderately less snappy browsing experience; otherwise, though, your $99 on contract is going to buy you a 1.3 megapixel camera, microSD slot, Bluetooth 1.2, support for AT&T's push-to-talk service, and a full (albeit miniaturized) QWERTY keypad. So who's liking this more than the white / gray scheme we'd seen before? Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • Palm finally posts Windows Mobile 6 for AT&T's Treo 750

Filed under: Software , Palm , ATT , Windows Mobile Some ten months after we first saw Treo 750s running Windows Mobile 6, AT&T and Palm have finally dropped an official upgrade today for the carrier's branded units . Turns out that Windows Mobile 6 is just the start with this little gem of an update, though -- you'll also get HSDPA support (yeah, that's right, you've been rocking plain ol' UMTS up until now), access to AT&T Cellular Video, functional Voice Command while using a Bluetooth headset, device charging via USB, and the list goes on. Head on over to Palm's site to kick off the download, and naturally, be sure to let us know how it goes. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in] Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
