  • Verizon turning the lights out on the Treo 755p

Filed under: Handsets , Palm , Verizon Wireless , Palm OS Here's an interesting factoid to chew on: the cycle between the first rumors that the Palm 755p was coming to Verizon and its launch was longer than the window of time between launch and sunset. Just think about that for a second. Seriously. Verizon has reported to Palm Infocenter that it's officially decommissioning the Palm OS-based smartphone -- the only in Verizon's lineup with strong ties to Palm's old-school industrial design -- in favor of the Centro , a smaller, friendlier, more consumer-oriented device. It seems like Big Red might be at risk of alienating some Garnet-loving business customers who aren't interested in carrying a device with a keyboard as small as the Centro's, and honestly, doesn't it feel like the 755p has at least a few more months of life yet? Or are we crazy? Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Palm rolls out firmware update for Verizon's Palm Treo 755p

What better way to keep that aging smartphone from feeling a little less "wise" in years, especially when compared with the new wave of smartphone hotness slated to drop in the coming months, than to give it a quick firmware update? To be fair, the Palm Treo 755p isn't exactly old, but the Palm handset's [...]
  • Verizon's Treo 755p gets firmware bump

Filed under: Software , Palm , Verizon Wireless , Palm OS The Verizon version of the Treo 755p from Palm is the latest of the world's 755p's to be graced with a firmware update -- or as Palm describes it, a "tune-up." There's very little detail to go on here, with the support page for the new binary simply saying that it "improves the phone application, stability and device usability." Hey, that's good enough for us -- and if you own an affected device, it's probably good enough for you, too. [Via Palm Infocenter ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Alltel's Palm Treo 755p gets firmware update

Filed under: Software , Palm , Alltel , Palm OS Have a Palm Treo 755p on Alltel ? Check it: your lil' buddy's just received an official update from the mothership. Little is known about what greatness lies within this new 1.03 version of the binary; all Palm's saying on the matter is that it resolves a "reset issue" under "specific and rare conditions." So if you found that your phone was spontaneously rebooting every time you sat in on a crawfish eating competition while wearing sandals, you may have stumbled upon those specific and rare conditions, in which case hearty congratulations are in order. Whatever, just download the update, will ya? [Via Palm Infocenter ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Sprint may be discontinuing the Palm Treo 755p

Sad as it may be some (not sad at all, for others), all signs point to Sprint bidding the Palm Treo 755p a final farewell. The speculation is based on the fact that Sprint is no longer offering or listing the Palm Treo 755p on its website. The phasing out of the Palm Treo 755p on [...]
  • Sprint saying goodnight to the Treo 755p?

Filed under: Handsets , Palm , Palm OS Feeling pressure from its smaller, sexier, newer cousin -- and every other smartphone, for that matter -- it looks like the Palm Treo 755p has taken its final bow on Sprint. With the Centro stealing the overwhelming majority of the Garnet limelight as of late, it seems there may be little business justification for another Palm OS device on Sprint's network; ironically, Verizon's version just launched four months ago, so we wouldn't sound the final death knell for the devicejust yet. For what it's worth, the classic Treo form factor lives on on Sprint thanks to the 700wx -- another Palm device that's getting just a little long in the tooth (like 2006 long in the tooth). We'll admit, we'll probably shed a quick tear or two when the old-guard Treo line finally takes a permanent vacation in favor of newer, more modern looking designs, but we're not really mustering much eye moisture for the 755p here. • Palm releases new firmware for Sprint 755p

If you’ve been feeling like Palm left you out in the cold with a slightly buggy Palm Treo 755p while they focused their efforts on the Palm Centro , you’ll be glad to hear that Palm has released an updated ROM for Sprint Palm Treo 755p owners. The new Treo 755p ROM v1.07 is a bit vague on update-details, but you can be sure that the new firmware will bring “a tune-up that improves audio, stability, software quality and device usability.” The Palm Treo 755p ROM v1.07 is 18.4MB and is available over HotSync or SD-card installation for Windows users. Mac users will need to flash the new firmware through the SD-card installation method. And, make sure you set aside a good 45 minutes for the update. Let us know how the firmware update goes. We’re dying to know if this update actually delivers some noticeable differences. Grab the Palm Treo 755p ROM v1.07 ROM here . • Sprint's Treo 755p gets fresh firmware

Filed under: Software , Palm , Sprint , Palm OS It's that most exciting time of the year for owners of Palm's Treo 755p on Sprint -- firmware update time! Unfortunately, Palm's being extraordinarily vague about the goodies contained deep within this particular binary; they simply call it a "tune-up" that improves "audio, stability, software quality and device usability." Sounds good to us. Palm warns users to set aside a mind-boggling 45 minutes of their lives that they'll never get back for the pleasure of updating, so be warned, and make sure you have a block of time where you really don't care if anyone is trying to call you. • Verizon goes live with Palm Treo 755p; charges arm and leg

Faithful Verizon subscribers, rejoice! Following on recent certification test-approvals , the long-awaited Palm Treo 755p has finally hit the nation’s largest CDMA network (and No. 2 carrier) in full Verizon-guise. With a fresh new branding scheme and that oh-so-coveted (you should be detecting a hint of sarcasm at this point) Verizon logo emblazoned on the face, the Palm Treo 755p is now being offered for about $150 more than what Sprint customers pay. At $400, the $50 rebate doesn’t do much for the Palm Treo 755p’s price point, but a good data plan should bring down the price-tag to about $300. To bring you up to date on this whole Palm/Verizon mess. The Palm Treo 755p on Verizon’s network is the unnamed device that Palm blamed for their 2007 shortfalls. And, with the Treo 755p hitting the CDMA network at an outrageous price point and much later than expected , Verizon customers must be feeling somewhat burned by Big Red. Especially considering that the Verizon-branded Palm Treo 755p offers absolutely nothing over any other Treo 755p on the market. Excuse us while we shake our heads in disappointment. • Palm Treo 755p goes live (at last) on Verizon, costs more

Filed under: Handsets , Palm , Verizon Wireless , Palm OS , EV-DO , CDMA Here's a special present to those Palm diehards out there that've been sticking with their Verizon service for the past months, hoping against hope that Palm will notice them hanging out over on the largest CDMA network in the States: the Verizon Treo 755p costs $400 with a two year contract, a full $150 more than you'll pay over on Sprint. The $400 price is after a $50 mail-in rebate, but if you play your cards right and spring for the right data plan you can get the final price down to $300. Obviously there's nothing new on the hardware end of things -- other than that ultra-fancy new paint job and Verizon logo -- so at least you folks know what you're getting yourselves into. Oh, and from the looks of things, this is that unnamed device Palm teased about earlier this month. Sorry to disappoint. • Palm finally pushes Treo 755p through Verizon Wireless certification process

Well, ain’t this a bit of unexpected good news from the ailing Treo-maker. It seems that recent layoff plans and negative quarterly results haven’t stopped Palm from continuing to push the Palm Treo 755p through Verizon Wireless’s certification tests . We’re hearing that the hugely disappointing Treo 755p has been given the thumbs-up to hit Big Red’s network and should be pulling duty as Verizon’s Treo-flagship in the near future - that is, if you still (or ever did) care. It’s too bad the delay of this incredibly unworthy device was the cause of Palm’s continued financial troubles - and precipitated the demise of a portion of Palm’s workforce. Verizon Wireless fans rejoice! Your carrier’s certification process is the root of all those employees’ holiday woes. Hope it was worth it . Was it worth it? Damn. • Palm Treo 755p finally passes Verizon's gauntlet, should launch shortly

Filed under: Handsets , Palm , Verizon Wireless , Palm OS , EV-DO , CDMA Alright, now don't everybody go crowding the entrance to the Verizon store at once, y'hear? We just know you've all been waiting with bated breath for Verizon's version of the Palm 755p -- you know, the one that launched on Sprint like seven months ago -- and it looks like we might finally see a release in the not-too-distant future. We've gotten word that the oft-delayed Palm OS Garnet device has finally passed through Verizon's rigorous testing regimen, so we'll hopefully see it on shelves before too long -- hopefully before another head has to roll . Check out some shots, why don't you? [Thanks, anonymous tipster] %Gallery-11761% Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
