  • Palm announces unlocked Treo 750 Windows Mobile 6.0 for the contract-wary

If contracts and carrier-branding just aren’t your cup of tea, Palm’s got the perfect Treo 750 for you - an unlocked, un-branded version. That’s right, following on Palm’s hours-old launch of the Windows Mobile 6.0 upgrade for AT&T-branded Treo 750 users, the struggling handset manufacturer has announced that they’ll be selling the unlocked Palm Treo 750 with Windows Mobile 6.0 pre-installed for $549. Previously only available through AT&T, the unlocked Palm Treo 750 is basically the same handset that you will be getting from AT&T, sans the carrier’s logo and any AT&T-specific firmware tweaks. And, as a world phone, the Palm Treo 750 will be able to get its 3G-on in the US and Europe. So, if you’ve got the need, or are willing, to trade worldwide 3G productivity for some bulk and oddly-sized display, head on over to your Palm Store (we’ve only seen one retail store, ever) or hit the online store for your own unlocked Palm Treo 750. • Palm finally posts Windows Mobile 6 for AT&T's Treo 750

Filed under: Software , Palm , ATT , Windows Mobile Some ten months after we first saw Treo 750s running Windows Mobile 6, AT&T and Palm have finally dropped an official upgrade today for the carrier's branded units . Turns out that Windows Mobile 6 is just the start with this little gem of an update, though -- you'll also get HSDPA support (yeah, that's right, you've been rocking plain ol' UMTS up until now), access to AT&T Cellular Video, functional Voice Command while using a Bluetooth headset, device charging via USB, and the list goes on. Head on over to Palm's site to kick off the download, and naturally, be sure to let us know how it goes. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in] Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • Palm Treo 750 get Windows Mobile 6.0 upgrade - as long as it's not branded

Here’s yet another official Windows Mobile 6.0 upgrade for you guys. This time it’s unbranded, generic Palm Treo 750’s in the US (remember, Australia already got this update , so you can stop holding your breath now) that get the WinMo6 treatment. The WM6 update comes to us straight from Palm, so those of you using an AT&T-spec Palm Treo 750 are out of luck. Aside from the obvious bump-up to a fresh Windows Mobile 6.0 installation, Palm Treo 750 owners will be glad to hear that the update will enhance your email experience and allow for USB charging. We’re just left with one question - when is AT&T going to get with the program and release their own WM6 update for all those Treo 750 owners that opted for an AT&T-subsidized and branded smartphone? If you shelled out the clams for an unbranded and unlocked Palm Treo 750, and you want to get jiggy with Windows Mobile 6.0, head on over to Palm’s download site . You’ll need to have your Palm Treo 750’s serial number handy. Palm download site . • Unbranded Palm Treo 750s get hooked up with Windows Mobile 6

Filed under: Software , Palm , Windows Mobile AT&T customers need not apply, but users of the generic, unbranded version of the Treo 750 finally have an official option for getting their units upgraded to Windows Mobile 6. The whole timeline is kinda silly, with Vodafone , Rogers , and others all coming out with Windows Mobile 6-equipped versions of the 750 (and in some cases, official upgrades for older units) well before Palm decided to get its butt in gear and update the unbranded peeps. We've said it before, and we'll wearily say it again: we have to believe this means the AT&T update is coming any freakin' second now. And, the Palm OS-powered Palm Treo 680 is slated for an update on October 22, so we’ll have to wait and see how that one pans out. The slide for the Palm Treo 750 indicated that the long-awaited Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional upgrade would be made available to Treo 750 owners on AT&T’s airspace. The update was is rumored to boost 3G speeds to 1.8Mbps (HSDPA) and enable Cellular Video, AT&T Mail, AT&T Music, MobiTV, TeleNav. A revised active call display is also in the cards. The Palm Treo 680 will still allegedly be stuck with the tired Palm OS, but it’ll get updated with PTT (push-to-talk) functionality, MP3 ringtone support, TeleNav, MobiTV, and instant messaging. • Updates coming any day now for AT&T's Treo 680 and 750?

Filed under: Software , Palm , ATT , Palm OS , Windows Mobile AT&T Treo 750 owners have been waiting patiently (or not so patiently, as the case may be) for an update to Windows Mobile 6 seemingly since Earth was a hot, lifeless mass of molten lava -- and thankfully, it seems that wait might be drawing to a close. TreoCentral's forums have turned up what appears to be a legit slide deck from within AT&T detailing software upgrades for both the 750 and the Palm OS-based 680 , with the former getting the aforementioned Windows Mobile 6 Professional, 1.8Mbps HSDPA, Cellular Video, AT&T Mail, AT&T Music, MobiTV, TeleNav, and a refreshed active call display. The 680 gets boosted with PTT support, MP3 ringtone capability, TeleNav, MobiTV, and instant messaging. The slides list October 15 as the rollout date for the 750 update -- a date which has obviously come and gone, so we're holding out the naive belief that we'll see it pretty much any minute now. The 680, meanwhile, allegedly gets hooked up on the 22nd. Here's hoping! [Via Palm Infocenter ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • Rogers Canada picks up their first Windows Mobile 6.0 smartphone - the Palm Treo 750

Rogers Wireless is finally joining the Windows Mobile 6.0 party with the launch of the WinMo6-powered Palm Treo 750. As Canada’s sole GSM wireless carrier, Rogers will be getting an exclusive on the Treo 750’s 1.3 megapixel camera, 300Mhz Samsung processor, 128MB RAM, Bluetooth, and quad-band (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) GSM radio with 2100Mhz HSDPA . We’re sure our Canadian friends are glad to be getting an update to Rogers’ Treo offering - the Treo 680 - especially with the HSDPA and WM6-toting Treo 750. Expect to pony up $249.99 with a 3-year contract (3 years?!), $599.99 with a 2-year contract, and $649.99 with a 1-year contract (which, coincidentally, is what it costs to buy outright, sans contract). • Rogers releases WM6-equipped Palm Treo 750

Filed under: Handsets , Palm , Rogers Wireless , Windows Mobile , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS AT&T customers still have a grueling wait ahead of them (apparently) for an official Windows Mobile 6 update to their Treo 750s, but our buddies north of the border are on the ball. Canada's GSM grandpappy, Rogers, has finally gotten around to launching the device -- a bit late, yes, but with Windows Mobile 6 and enabled HSDPA out of the gate. Normally we'd say the timing sucks with a newer product having just launched overseas, but let's be honest: between the Treo 500 and the 750, we're sure there are still plenty of folks willing to take the older model. Pick it up now for $599 CAD (about $584) on a two-year contract, or a far more palatable $249 CAD (about $243) on a three-year. • Palm rolls out WM6 upgrade for Vodafone's Treo 750v

Filed under: Software , Palm , Vodafone , Windows Mobile Still no love for AT&T customers just yet , but Palm's Treo 750 is slowly transforming from a Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC to a Windows Mobile 6 Professional device across the globe. Following an earlier Australian announcement , it now seems that the official upgrade is available to customers of the Vodafone variant -- the 750v, naturally -- in the UK, Ireland, and the Netherlands. Even better, the free download flips the switch on HSDPA, but careful: it's one download per customer for whatever reason, so make sure you drop it on a hard drive that's not seconds away from crashing.
