  • O2 picks up Windows Mobile powered Palm Treo 500

While it might look familiar to fans of the Palm Centro, the newest Palm handset to hit O2's UK network isn't your fluffy, consumer-oriented device. The Palm Treo 500 goes back to Palm's roots in enterprise devices and brings Windows Mobile 6.0 Standard along to hammer home its business prowess. Vodafone previously had an exclusive on [...]
  • Palm Treo 500v with TPP UI overlay on Windows Mobile

What? Doesn’t the Palm Treo 500v use Windows Mobile as its operating system? What’s with this TPP user interface? Yes, Palm thankfully endowed the Treo 500v with Windows Mobile, but Vodafone has overlayed the traditional WinMo menu structure with a new UI, dubbed TPP. The new menu structure provides faster and easier access to applications through the “Start Menu.” Vodafone’s TPP UI spices up the Windows Mobile OS with new icons and graphics - you get a fresh new look with all the benefits of Windows Mobile compatibility. We like the looks of the new TPP UI. Now, we just have to get our hands on one of these Palm Treo 500v’s with the TPP UI. Check out the vid below to see how it works. • Palm teases us with Palm Centro - don't you wish there were more of you?

Palm’s newest smartphone offering is also their smallest - of course we’re talking about the Palm Centro. The smartphone maker has taken the wraps off its Palm Centro teaser site , with the tag-line “Do you wish there were more of you?” It looks like Palm is banking on the entry-level demographic that’s looking to boost their productivity as if there were indeed more than one of them. The teaser site shows the Palm Centro clad in Candy Apple Red. The Centro will be toting features like a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, microSD card, instant messaging support, and an updated Palm OS (remember, this is an entry-level device, and as such will get nothing more than an entry-level OS). The Palm Centro takes design cues from the recently released Palm Treo 500v , but sports a narrower profile and smaller QWERTY keyboard. Look for Palm to drop the Palm Centro on October 14 for a buck shy of $100 (contract and rebate required, of course). It’s just too bad Palm doesn’t move on from their antiquated Palm OS - which is, by itself, a deal killer for us (update be damned). Come on Palm, let’s just kill Palm OS and go with Windows Mobile, or at least get your new Linux-based OS out of the R&D labs AFAP (as fast as possible).
