  • PHOTOVIEW: Palm Treo Pro Windows Mobile Professional Smartphone

Palm just recently launched its latest Windows Mobile Professional smartphone, the Palm Treo Pro and thanks to Palm Germany and Vodafone Germany, I got my hands on Palm's Treo 750 follower, which went available across Europe exclusively from Vodafone. Running on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and powered by a Qualcomm MSM7201 CPU at 400 MHz, the Treo Pro features quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE and triband UMTS/HSDPA, WiFi b/g, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and GPS capabilities. The inbuilt 256 MB ROM and 128 MB RAM can be expanded with microSDHC memory cards up to 32 GB and while the device lacks a front facing camera for video telephony, it features a 2.0 megapixel main camera on the back. • VIDEOVIEW: Palm Treo 500 Windows Mobile 6 Standard Smartphone

In this videoview I will have a more detailed look to the features of Palm's Treo 500 Windows Mobile Standard smartphone. Like Vodafone's Palm Treo 500v, the Palm Treo 500 is featuring a thumb-keyboard on the front as well as a 2 megapixel camera and loudspeaker on the back. Furthermore it features the Windows Mobile typical QVGA screen and on the left side two volume keys as well as a shortcut which launches the Internet Explorer Mobile. Under the battery, you find the place for the SIM card as well as for the memory card which means memory cards cannot removed/exchanged while the devices is turned on. • VIDEOVIEW: Unboxing the Palm Treo 500 Windows Mobile 6 Standard Smartphone

Late January, Palm released its vanilla Palm Treo 500 Windows Mobile 6 Standard smartphone which was before exclusively available from Vodafone only. Featuring Windows Mobile 6 Standard, triband GSM/GPRS (but not EDGE) at 900/1800/1900 MHz and singleband UMTS at 2100 MHz (but not HSDPA), Bluetooth 2.0+EDR (but not WiFi) and a 2 megapixel camera, the Treo 500 is an entry-level thumb-keyboard smartphone for messaging addicts. At a size of 16.5 x 61.5 x 110 mm, the Treo 500 weighs 120 grams. Depending on the country, Palm's vanilla Treo 500 is either available in white or gray. Not that the Palm Treo 500 is anything dramatically new, far from it - it's Palm's unbranded version of the Palm Treo 500v (see our previous review here) which Palm exclusively launched with Vodafone Autumn last year. Nevertheless, Palm's Treo 500 is now also available without the Vodafone branding and exclusivity and Palm Germany was kind enough to send one over to have a follow-up review, also to compare the vanilla Treo 500 with Vodafone's Treo 500v version. Most important for German customers - the unbranded Treo 500 is now available in charcoal gray while Vodafone (Germany's) Treo 500v was available in glacier white only. • REVIEW: Palm Treo 500v Windows Mobile 6 Standard Smartphone

For two weeks, I had the pleasure to test Palm's new Treo 500v smartphone which the American PDA veteran introduce mid last month. The Treo 500v marks a quite historical milestone in Palm's long history since it is the first non-touchscreen device because it's using Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6 Standard instead of the previously used Windows Mobile Professional (aka Pocket PC Phone Edition). Therefore, I was even more curious how the device performs. Another interesting fact is, that the device is, until end of 2007, on sale exclusively from Vodafone. This means, that the smartphone sports some Vodafone typical features which makes it unique once more. [ Permalink ] (c) 2007 by the::unwired - All Rights Reserved

Following the earlier hands-on, I finally found the time for some better photos of the recently announced Palm Treo 500v Windows Mobile 6 Standard smartphone which also includes some comparison to other Windows Mobile 6 Standard smartphones. While I'm currently working on the review, please find bellow a couple of photos for your pleasance since a photo says more than thousand words. The review will be ready and uploaded during this week, since I have to return the device soon, so please feel free to ask further questions now: [ Permalink ] (c) 2007 by the::unwired - All Rights Reserved
  • VIDEOVIEW: Vodafone TPP Menu on the Palm Treo 500v

Not yet announced by Vodafone, the latest Vodafone branded devices shows a new menu structure called Vodafone TPP (whatever TPP stands for). We have seen the new TPP design earlier when Vodafone unveiled its new, not yet shown Vodafone 920 Windows Mobile smartphone but the recently announced Palm Treo 500v features the TPP menu structure as well. So what's TPP about? As far as I know, Vodafone plans to unify its upcoming smartphone menus and the menu structure we're seeing on Widows Mobile was just the start. • VIDEOVIEW: Unboxing the Palm Treo 500v Windows Mobile 6 Standard Smartphone

Today I'm finally going to unbox the new Palm Treo 500v, Palm announced three weeks ago and which I've received late last week already. But due to some other press events and bank holiday in Germany, I hadn't found the time to unbox it before. Anyway, Palm's new Treo, which is exclusively on sale from Vodafone, is quite an interesting device because it's Palm's first Windows Mobile 6 Standard smartphone which means it misses a touch screen but it's a "regular" phone with a QWERTY (in this case QWERTZ) keyboard, featuring triband GSM and singleband UMTS. It neither features HSDPA nor does it supports all North American GSM and UMTS frequencies which is quite unusual for a U.S.-American product: [ Permalink ] (c) 2007 by the::unwired - All Rights Reserved
  • PHOTOVIEW: Palm Treo 500v Windows Mobile 6 Standard Smartphone

I know, you love device photos as much as I do and while I hadn't too much time for my first series of photos on Tuesday, today I've spent my second 30 minutes with the recently released Palm Treo 500v to snap some more photos for you. Unfortunately I don't have a device yet to review it here, but I got promised to get one soon that I can follow up with a review ASAP. I have to admit that the more time I spend with Palm's latest Windows Mobile device (and its first Windows Mobile 6 Standard smartphone), the more I like it. Sure, it misses some (for me important) features but I'm not the benchmark here. Far from it; if it is well priced, I see a bright future for it. • VIDEOVIEW: Hands-on Video of the new Palm Treo 500v Home Screen Navigation

While the new Treo 500v doesn't includes too much customized software, as we have seen it before with the Palm Treo 750 and 750v, the Treo 500v features one innovation which is a completely redesigned Home screen layout and menu structure. It's quite similar to the Samsung SGH-i600 Home screen carousel but it's different. First of all, the Home screen main navigation is left/right not up/down where tasks can be selected by navigation up/down later. However, unlike Samsung's Home screen carousel, which stays on the screen, the Vodafone menu is hidden on the first sight but it's activated by pressing the Start button. • PHOTOVIEW: Hands-on Photos of the Palm Treo 500v Windows Mobile 6 Smartphone

During today's Palm Press Conference in Munich, I had the first chance to get my hands on the brand new Palm Treo 500v, which Palm announced today for some parts of Europe and South Africa. One thing in advance, Palm and Vodafone are targeting the consumer mass-market with the device and therefore it cannot compete with similar Windows Mobile Smartphones like the Samsung SGH-i600 which has a better feature-set but is also more expensive. No, Vodafone is expected to price the device fairly low and therefore, I'm sure, the Palm Treo 500v will find its customers as well. At least it's not so bad looking as many thought first: [ 1 Comment ] [ Permalink ] (c) 2007 by the::unwired - All Rights Reserved
