  • INTERACTIVE: Opera Mobile 9.5 adds Opera Widgets for a 1-click mobile Internet experience

Following Opera Software's earlier announcement, to work with T-Mobile on their Widgets for web'n'walk, Opera today announced the launch Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta 2 which introduces Opera Widgets to the public, enabling one-click Web content access. This release marks the second Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta for Windows Mobile and the first-ever Beta for UIQ-based phones. Like T-Mobile, other operators can now incorporate Opera Widgets into their customer offering. This means that customer-selected Web content can be accessed from a list of icons on the home-screen. Widgets can also serve as a means of customer communication, as automatic notifications are now easier to instantly deliver to subscribers. • INTERACTIVITY: T-Mobile and Opera to introduce Widgets for Windows Mobile

T-Mobile last week announced to work with Opera Software to make its web'n'walk even more intuitive and bringing the user even closer to the World Wide Web. In future, you will be able to access your personal favorite sites more easily and quickly than ever from your mobile phone by simply selecting the corresponding widget, an active icon, from the standard display. The web'n'walk widgets can be quickly and easily set up according to personal preferences for mobile surfing. In order to enable this, T-Mobile is providing a gallery, initially with approximately 40 widgets for popular websites. It will soon be possible for other users and providers to create additional widgets via an open platform. [ Permalink ] (c) 2008 by the::unwired - All Rights Reserved
  • UPDATE: Opera releases minor update of Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta 1 for Windows Mobile

Opera Software has just announced the availability of a minor update of its recently released Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta 1. According to the Opera Blog, this bugfix solves a bug that turned off the notification sounds. The notification bugfix was relatively trivial and had a low risk. While Opera is aware of the other bugs and issues, these aren't addressed in this update. Furthermore Opera Mobile posted a statement to an available workaround to fix the "Out of Memory" problems on some devices as suggested by WMExperts.com. It's possible to change the location of the folder where Opera stores the cache files which gives more memory to run Opera Mobile. [ Permalink ] (c) 2008 by the::unwired - All Rights Reserved
  • VIDEOVIEW: Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta 1 for Windows Mobile Professional

Opera Software today released the slightly delayed public Beta 1 of Opera Mobile 9.5 for Windows Mobile Professional smartphones and I had the chance to test the latest Beta in advance already. While Opera Mobile 9.5 was available as a ODM partner version already, as used by HTC and Samsung, today's release is the long awaited public release. With Opera Mobile 9.5, Opera Software completely reinvented the web browser on mobile phones by providing a PC-like browsing experience on small screen devices which include features like pan and zoom, improved GUI and standard support as well as noticeable speed improvements over Opera's previous mobile browser. • AVAILABLE: Opera Software releases Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta 1 for Windows Mobile

Opera Software today released the much-anticipated, first public version of Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta. A powerful foreshadowing of what is to come, this Beta takes mobile browsing speed and features to a new level, complete with visual effects and a new look. Opera has changed the face of its mobile browser in this Beta release. As with the latest version of Opera Mini, Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta now defaults to page overview mode, allowing the user to view the entire Web page and instantly recognize the Web site. With panning and zooming options, the user is able to focus on specific page content. Opera also introduces a sleek, new user interface for easier navigation. • STATISTICS: Opera unveils first State of the Mobile Web report

Not yet a study of Opera Mobile use with Windows Mobile smartphones, Opera Software just released the results of its first Mobile Web report which is based on the use of Opera Mini. The results both show healthy growth in the numbers of consumers accessing the Web from their mobile devices and provide insight into aggregate consumer preferences when browsing from their phones. Social networking consumes almost 41 % of traffic: The United States, South Africa and Indonesia have more than 60 % of their traffic going to social networks. More than 11.9 million people used Opera Mini in March to browse 2.4 billion pages. Thus far, more than 44 million cumulative users have tried Opera Mini. • COOPERATION: Google becomes Opera's default Mobile Search Engine

Opera Software announced today, that Google will be the default search engine in future Opera mobile Web browsers. With Opera Mobile or Opera Mini, everyone will be able to access Google's powerful mobile search directly from the browser start page, meaning they'll be able to quickly and easily get the information they need, whenever and wherever they need it. Google has been the default search option on Opera's desktop browser for seven years. This new mobile collaboration covers all global territories except Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States, and includes all of Opera's standard mobile Web browsers. • VIDEOVIEW: Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta on Windows Mobile

During another off-site meeting in Barcelona, I had some more time to play with the recently announced Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta web browser. Even if not yet available commercially but only available for ODM and carrier partners and still in Beta, Opera Software made a fantastic job already to bring the real Internet to mobile devices, without any proxy servers in between but by rendering the web sites on the device. With Opera Mobile 9.5, Windows Mobile smartphones will finally get a web browser which is - at least - on the same level as Apple's iPhone browser or Nokia's S60 web browser; and no wonder that so many carriers and ODMs will include Opera Mobile 9.5 into its future device offer (as HTC will do with the Advantage 16 GB as well as T-Mobile will do with the Ameo 16 GB): [ 2 Comments ] [ Permalink ] (c) 2008 by the::unwired - All Rights Reserved
  • MWC LIVE: Hands-on Video of Opera Mobile 9.5 on Windows Mobile Professional

Tonight I had my first 15 minutes with the recently announced but not yet released Opera Mobile 9.5 web browser on a Windows Mobile 6 Professional smartphone. As Opera confirmed, we will see a release of this browser later this year - most likely in Spring (even if the Opera Software spokesman mentioned that Spring is coming later to Oslo). He also confirmed that Opera Mobile 9, which was announced on last year's 3GSM World Congress was never released for Windows Mobile but the PC development kept Opera that busy that it was postponed to Opera Mobile 9.5. Nevertheless, Opera 9 for PC and Opera Mobile 9.5 now shares the identical code base. [ Permalink ] (c) 2008 by the::unwired - All Rights Reserved
