  • Nokia Wahoo for AT&T leaked: a flip phone with a semi-QWERTY keyboard

I thought the Nokia E63 is the only Finnish novelty for today, but I was obviously wrong, as another new Nokia handset has just appeared, although in an unofficial way. The handset I’m talking about goes under the codename Nokia Wahoo (yes, it does sound a bit weird) and it’s a slim clamshell that somehow [...]
  • Nokia 6650 showing up in AT&T stores

Filed under: Handsets , Nokia , ATT , Symbian , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS S60 lovers on AT&T, rejoice -- your on-contract, branded phone has arrived. The Nokia 6650 has started flowing into stores today, bringing an N75 successor that ups the beauty factor by a country mile and adds 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 for good measure. It's apparently running $70 with a two-year deal after rebate, so if Symbian flips are your cup o' tea, get on it. • Nokia 1606 clamshell launched by Cricket USA

If you’re a US mobile user who just happen to like simple flip phones, Cricket has just launched something for you: Nokia 1606, an entry-level clamshell that works on the said carrier’s AWS network. Of course, Cricket only offers its mobile services in limited areas of the US, but it still has ~3.3 mil customers [...]
  • AT&T's BlackBerry Curve 8320 (and friends) make an appearance

Filed under: Handsets , Nokia , RIM , Samsung , ATT , Symbian , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS If you've been jonesing for a few more shots of that trippy Samsung a637 that's starting to trickle into AT&T stores... well, here you are. We also have additional footage of Nokia's carrier-branded 6650 and 2600 classic , and new to this photo batch is the Curve 8320 , one-upping AT&T's existing 8300 with WiFi (not to say you'd really know it from a dummy model). A little something for everyone here, really. [Thanks, Andy C.] Gallery: AT&T's BlackBerry Curve 8320 (and friends) make an appearance Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Nokia 6650, 2600 classic, and a funny Samsung show up in AT&T stores

Filed under: Handsets , Nokia , Samsung , ATT , Symbian , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS It's that most exciting time again for AT&T store owners and their customers -- yes, that's right, it's dummy time. Empty husks representing the Nokia 6650 and 2600 classic are now finding their way into employee hands, along with a rather curious Samsung that we're told might be the a637. Seriously, Sammy's done just about every form factor and gone down just about every design direction, but does this translucent white pill of a candybar not look completely fresh? Looks pretty low-end -- GoPhone territory, if we had to guess -- but if you covered up the logo, we'd guess Pantech, LG... heck, even Huawei before we put our money on Samsung. Stay tuned for versions of these things with actual electrical circuitry in 'em; they can't be far off now. • Nokia 6650, Sony Ericsson W760a, others coming to AT&T in coming weeks

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Nokia , Pantech , Samsung , ATT , Symbian , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS So we've gotten a little more clarity on the situation with AT&T's next round of releases since we reported on pricing earlier today , and in a nutshell, things are looking up -- it's already mid-September, and it turns out that every single one of the phones we mentioned is scheduled to ship before the end of October. Specifically, the cheapo Samsung a637 should hit any minute now, followed by the Motorola V9x and the Nokia 6650 toward the end of this month; the Sony Ericsson W760a and Pantech C740 Matrix , meanwhile, are the stragglers of the bunch with releases planned for late October. Let's see how closely they can hold to this, shall we? [Thanks, Kal] Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Upcoming AT&T phones get priced

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Nokia , Pantech , Samsung , Sony Ericsson , ATT , Symbian , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS It's always a good sign when rumored handsets get slapped with price tags, because that means that releases are right around the corner, too -- usually, anyhow. To that end, AT&T's latest stock information indicates that the S60-powered Nokia 6650 will run $129.99 in your choice of red or silver, as will the Sony Ericsson W760a ; the Samsung a637 will be coming in for $49.99, so we're expecting some pretty low-end stuff there; the Pantech C740 "Matrix" is priced at $79.99, and finally, the Motorola V9x we found out about way back in early July is checking in at a princely $199.99. All prices are after rebate, too, so we wouldn't expect any miraculous deals on these -- at least for the first few weeks. [Thanks, Kal] Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Nokia 6650 for AT&T gets more legit thanks to the FCC

Filed under: Handsets , Nokia , ATT , Symbian , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS We pretty much gathered that the 6650 was real from that page on Nokia's domain that has since been pulled, but if there was any lingering doubt, this should take care of it. The specs here confirm what Nokia had spilled -- most importantly, that the radio is rocking HSDPA on the 850 and 1900MHz bands, just what the doctor ordered to get some action on AT&T. A quick perusal of the manual shows that it's N-Gage compatible, though we were a bit surprised to see mentions of video calling; our guess is that they just haven't updated it for AT&T's inexplicable aversion to that particular feature yet. It'll also feature S60 3.2, so if you're in the States and S60 is how you roll, this puppy's got to be on your short list. Our money is on it getting official at CTIA next week. • Nokia 6650 flip coming to AT&T to redeem the N75

Filed under: Handsets , Nokia , ATT , Symbian , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Well, here's one we didn't see coming: it seems that AT&T has wised up to the fact that Americans like their Symbian (well, at least a few of 'em do, anyway) and wants to keep S60-equipped options on the table. Yes, granted, AT&T is a founding member of the Symbian Foundation , but the proof is in the pudding, and the last Nokia smartphone to land there was the N75 in May of last year -- an eternity by mobile standards. More recently, the N75 grew up, got sexy, picked up some brushed metal, and emerged in Europe as the 6550 ; now, it's surprisingly and unexpectedly been retooled as the 6650 for North American 3G spectrum. It's got a 2.2-inch QVGA primary display, 160 x 128 secondary, 2-megapixel cam, AT&T Navigator (which means GPS), push-to-talk support, and HSDPA 850 / 1900 to compliment quadband EDGE. We don't know exactly when it's coming, but for S60 fans who cringe at the thought of having to blow several hundred on an unlocked set every time they want some fresh hardware, this should be welcome news. • Verizon gets Motorola VU30 next month, Nokia 7205 not until December?

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Motorola , Nokia , Samsung , Verizon Wireless , EV-DO , CDMA So we don't think Verizon really intended to leak any handset release dates via a slide about Mobile Email launches on various devices -- but alas, they did. At present, the Moto VU30 is scheduled for a September 9 date with destiny, and it seems that its name has changed from "Utopia" to "Rapture" somewhere along the way. Further out, the LG VX8360 (which we're guessing will be an update for the forgettable VX8350 ) gets real in October -- and unfortunately, that shiny, hot mess of CDMA technology from Nokia, the 7205 , appears to be shelved all the way back to December. There's also a u440 "Cleo" from Samsung in there somewhere, too, though no launch window is listed. Anyway, sorry for the interruption, Verizon; please, continue fascinating us with your stories about mobile email. Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Nokia introduces simple 3610 Fold

Filed under: Handsets , Nokia , GSM , EDGE When we think of a "fold" phone, we think of some sort of insanely complex origami-like contraption that might function a small handful of times before breaking into a dozen useless fragments. In reality, though, Nokia's new 3610 Fold is nothing more than your standard issue flip phone, which is probably just as well. It bears a fleeting resemblance to the 3555 , but we'd argue that the 3610 is considerably more attractive and 2008-ish -- just too bad it loses the 3G somewhere along the way, presumably in an effort to keep the unsubsidized cost down to a bargain-basement €125 ($186). On the upside, it bundles a 1.3 megapixel cam, microSD expansion, quadband EDGE, and a Q3 ship date in two exciting colors, so keep your chin up, sport. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Hands-on with Verizon's Nokia 6205 "The Dark Knight" edition

Filed under: Handsets , Features , Nokia , EV-DO , CDMA Sure, you might be the biggest Christian Bale fan in the world right now, but what about this time next year when The Dark Knight DVDs are already collecting dust on bookshelves around the globe? That was the million-dollar question on our minds when we heard that Verizon was commemorating the launch of its Nokia 6205 and the latest Batman flick with a tied-in version of the low end flip. Turns out it's all good, though -- a look through the custom packaging revealed a grand total of two battery covers, one with the Batman logo and one without, so it should be pretty easy to avoid those embarrassing "what's with the batphone?" queries in a few months' time. Otherwise, there's very little to say about the phone -- it truly is a minimalist flip -- though we're definitely excited to see Nokia's apparently renewed commitment to working not just with CDMA, but with CDMA carriers in North America.
