  • Quick start guide offers sneak preview of the LG Voyager

Filed under: Handsets , Multimedia , LG , Verizon Wireless , EV-DO , CDMA For some of us, the LG Voyager could be the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel that Verizon customers have been hoping for. Stacked to the gills with features like EV-DO, VCAST TV, a 2 megapixel camera with autofocus, expandable memory via a microSD slot, an exterior display which touchsrceen capability and another interior display that reveals a full QWERTY keypad, it's certainly designed to please almost anyone. Even though some of the features appear a little quirky -- like only being able to rotate the phone clockwise while snapping pics -- we're sure that you'll find great info in the quick start guide while you wait ever so patiently for its release. %Gallery-9602% Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • The B'Phone: Sprint, Samsung make Beyonce-themed UpStage a reality

Filed under: Handsets , Multimedia , Samsung , Sprint , EV-DO , CDMA Apparently not content to merely hire Beyonce to push the plain ol' UpStage , Sprint and Samsung have collaborated with the entertainment mogul to release the B'Phone, a dolled up version of the two-sided handset. Lucky buyers will be the recipients of a burgundy UpStage trimmed with gold accents -- we'll let you be the judge whether that's hotter than the all-black original -- along with exclusive Beyonce-themed content (naturally) and a rather fancy set of packaging materials. Aspiring Beyonces of tomorrow should be able to pick it up November 4 online and in Wal-Marts (yes, Wal-Marts) across the land. • Verizon announces Motorola Z6tv for October 5 launch

Filed under: Handsets , Multimedia , Motorola , Verizon Wireless , EV-DO , CDMA Verizon's finally ready to expand its two-strong VCAST TV lineup -- currently composed of the Samsung u620 and LG VX9400 -- to a third device, the Z6tv from Motorola. Supporting Verizon's MediaFLO-based mobile TV service, the Z6tv takes on a simple slider form factor like its u620 stablemate and features a 2 megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth, support fo VZ Navigator, roughly 50MB of onboard storage (mere scraps, if you ask us) plus microSD expansion, and support for landscape viewing of television, video clips, and the camera viewfinder. Look for it to launch a week from today, October 5, for a penny shy of $180 after $50 rebate. Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • Sprint BlackBerry Pearl to support Sprint TV?

Filed under: Handsets , Multimedia , RIM , Sprint , EV-DO , CDMA It appears that Sprint has let the bag again and allowing some clever readers to comb through the same spec sheet . It looks like Sprint will launch the BlackBerry 8130 supporting both their Mobile TV and Music Store services. Nothing sounds more enticing than streaming audio and video via EV-DO on our BlackBerry . Now only if Sprint can get their mobile TV offerings in line with VCast TV or maybe Verizon will follow suit and enable another Smartphone for their music service. • LG lets loose WiBro-equipped LG-KC1 in Korea

Filed under: Handsets , Multimedia , LG , Windows Mobile , EV-DO , CDMA We've known this gem was looming , but word on the street has the LG-KC1 finally hitting the hands of eager South Koreans. Amongst the niceties are a potent 806MHz Marvell Monahans CPU, 512MB of NAND Flash ROM, 128MB of SDRAM, WiBro connectivity, T-DMB mobile TV, integrated Bluetooth , a two-megapixel camera, and a 2.8-inch QVGA screen to boot. Unfortunately, it looks like this otherwise fantastically spec'd device is still running Windows Mobile 5 from yesteryear, and of course, the chances of it ever making it to US soil in the near future are essentially nil. Regardless, feel free to click on through for another picture if you enjoy the tease. Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • Telus intros Samsung SCH-m620

Filed under: Handsets , Multimedia , Samsung , Telus Mobility , 1xRTT , EV-DO , CDMA Telus has added the SCH-m620 (known as UpStage on Sprint) to its stable, and with the catch phrase "business in the front, party in the back," Telus is likening it to a mullet -- which is kinda right in some sad way. As with the UpStage before it, music will be the focus of Telus' latest, with Telus Mobile Radio -- Powered by XM -- and Telus Mobile Music as the headliners. Telus Mobile Music will let fans download tracks at CAN $1.99 a pop, plus a $0.50 "download fee" -- no wonder this tech isn't taking off -- or for CAN $20 month, the service is unlimited. Telus Mobile Radio lets you get at 22 channels of XM content streamed to you on the glorious EV-DO Rev. A network. Pricing starts at CAN $149 on a three year stint and should be hitting stores later this week. Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • Verizon poised to launch LG VX8550?

Filed under: Handsets , Multimedia , LG , Verizon Wireless , 1xRTT , EV-DO , CDMA It looks like Verizon and LG are gearing up to release to their latest addition in the Chocolate lineup, the VX8550 . This round, the VX8550 is sportin' two new colors than before -- this time "black cherry" and "blue mint" will make your mouth water, and lets not forgot the traditional black. The device is expected to hit the street around around July 9 and cost $100 with a two year contract. There's even talk about reducing the cost of the music essentials kit that includes a microSD card, data cable, Bluetooth headset, and a gift card for music. Could this be Big Red's attempt to persuade consumers away from AT&T's music phone for their own latest addition? We hope not . • Verizon prepping iPhone killers from Motorola and LG?

Filed under: Handsets , Multimedia , LG , Motorola , Verizon Wireless , 1xRTT , EV-DO , CDMA When Verizon passed on the iPhone , was it a bad business decision or was it a part of a much larger idea for The Network to bring a next-generation music device to market? Enter Motorola and what is being described as an " iPhone Killer" by employees of both companies. Code named the "M" and designed for the mediacentric user, it's likely to impress (if they really want to kill the iPhone, anyway). Details are on the slim side, but reports suggest a 3 megapixel shooter with a large QVGA display and lots of internal storage. In addition to the M, word is that LG is preparing a CDMA version of the popular -- but -- expensive KE850 (aka Prada ) for release sometime in the 3rd quarter (this one's also a potential iPhone nemesis , if you ask us). Make sure you keep a lookout for more deets! [Thanks, Roc a fella] Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • Half phone, half camcorder: Samsung's SCH-B750

Filed under: Handsets , Multimedia , Samsung , 1xRTT , EV-DO , CDMA It looks like a bit of a beast, but at least it rocks a spec sheet to match its intimidating layout. The SCH-B750 (for Samsung's domestic Korean market, naturally) is being billed as a "camcorder phone" with a swiveling display and 3 megapixel shooter that combine to mimic the way you'd hold a small digital video camera (ring any bells ?). Features include QVGA internal and OLED external displays, DMB, TV out, comprehensive media support, and microSD expansion. It's not as big as it looks, either, coming in at a reasonable 99 x 51 x 16 millimeters. No word on when exactly Koreans will be able to grab this puppy, but one thing's for certain: it'll be a lot sooner than we can. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Samsung's SCH-B640 "Ultra Mobile TV"

Filed under: Handsets , Multimedia , Samsung , 1xRTT , EV-DO , CDMA In multimedia terms, what in tarnation is the F500 Ultra Video lacking? Ooh, that's right: live television. Enter the SCH-B640 "Ultra Mobile TV," a device that shares most of the F500's physical attributes but adds in a little S-DMB action for pulling down the satellite feeds South Koreans so enviably receive. Like the F500, the B640 gets a 2 megapixel cam, a self-supporting swivel stand, and the nifty dual-personality concept with a dedicated phone on one side and multimedia features on the other. Though S-DMB wouldn't work in these parts, the B640 is a CDMA device -- any chance Verizon wants to pick up a MediaFLO version of this to rock the UpStage's world? • Sprint's Samsung UpStage drops to $100

Filed under: Handsets , Multimedia , Samsung , Sprint-Nextel , 1xRTT , EV-DO , CDMA Just a few moons have passed overhead since the Samsung UpStage was released to the public, but Sprint has already dropped its price like a sack of hammers. The Samsung dual-faced and music-centric CDMA handset now lists for a mere $100 at Sprint Nextel's website. Handset prices from subsidized units regularly get price chops from all the major carriers, a fact we're all aware of. But, with the unique design position the UpStage held in the U.S. market, we're surprised the price was cut so much and so quick. Just released at CTIA about a month ago , the handset accompanies Sprint's decision recently to cut downloadable music tracks form its wireless music store from $2.50 to $0.99 . If you're a Sprint customer and love your music on the fly, cheap and on a possible new UpStage, here's your day. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
