  • Rogers gets rugged with Motorola VA76r

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Rogers Wireless , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Mil-spec (and mil-spec-esque) hardware seems to be all the rage lately, so Motorola was more than happy to oblige when Rogers asked for some rough-looking gear to slot into its lineup. Meet the VA76r , a beefy set that'll take pretty much all the drops, dirt, and spills you can throw its way and keeps things rockin' on the data side with triband HSDPA. You've also got a QVGA display, Bluetooth, 2-megapixel cam, and microSD expansion; the $199.99 CAD (about $194) you're going to pay on a three-year contract isn't the cheapest we've ever heard, but for those that need this kind of toughness (you know who you are), it's probably worth the cost of admission. No word on a US release, but we suspect Moto would love to launch this sucker on AT&T to do battle with Samsung's Rugby. [Via MobileSyrup ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Motorola Extreme VA76r released in Canada, via Rogers

Well look what we have here: Rogers’ first ultra durable mobile phone, which is also 3G-enabled. The phone is Motorola Extreme VA76r, and, as its name suggest, it’s a device that can withstand harsh conditions. More exactly, Motorola Extreme VA76r meets the military standard 810F for drops, vibration, humidity, dust and extreme temperatures. In consequence, [...]
  • Rogers' Q3 lineup revealed?

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Sony Ericsson , Rogers Wireless , Windows Mobile , HP , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Dealer documentation seemingly intended for Rogers dealers has, of course, leaked out onto the interwebs, possibly revealing the entirety of the carrier's third quarter offerings. With the exception of the Bold and KickStart / Pearl 8220, there's nothing terribly mind-blowing in the mix, though the lineup does include a pretty healthy range of goodies from the low end to the reasonably high. Highlights include the Sony Ericsson W350a music flip, a phone we've already seen meandering about in AT&T livery , so it comes as little surprise that we'd see it up north as well; the iPAQ 910c Windows Mobile smartphone from HP; and a refreshed RAZR 2 that'll probably mirror the V9x . All of these chewy technological morsels launch (in theory, anyway) by the end of September, which really only serves to makes us wonder: what's on tap up there for the holiday season? • Motorola Z6w hits Fido for WiFi fun

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , GSM , EDGE If the 6301 from Nokia ain't your cup of tea, Fido has now added a second handset compatible with its Uno WiFi calling service. The new model is none other than Moto's Z6w slider, which continues the interesting choice of making Fido's WiFi lineup completely different than parent Rogers', which offers the BlackBerry Pearl and Nokia 6086 on its Talkspot service. When you're not around home, the Z6w offers quadband EDGE coverage, and the microSD slot plus Windows Media support and 2 megapixel camera should be enough to keep you at least mildly entertained. Grab the package now for $60 (about $57) CAD on a three-year deal. [Via MobileSyrup ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Fido offers up Motorola's MOTOROKR U9

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Rogers Wireless Merely hours after Motorola began selling its simplistic U9 through its own webstore, along comes Fido to give interested Canadians another option for procuring it. Starting right now, those enamored by that ghostly external display can grab one for just $75 on a 3-year contract, $175 with a 2-year agreement or a grossly overpriced $350 with no strings attached. Any takers... anyone? [Via MobileSyrup ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

  • Telus launches Motorola's Mike i877 flip phone

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Telus Mobility , EV-DO , CDMA Just days after Telus picked up the attractive LG Venus, the carrier has officially started offering up the Motorola Mike i877. If it floats your boat, you can snag it now sans contract for $349.99, or anywhere between $149.99 to $299.99 if you're cool with signing the dotted line for varying lengths of time. • Motorola RAZR 2 V9m in the mix for Virgin Mobile Canada

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Virgin Mobile , EV-DO , CDMA In case you hadn't noticed, Virgin Mobile rocks an ever-so-slightly higher end lineup north of the border than it does in the US, and to that end, it's just released the RAZR 2 V9m . We all know the drill here by now: 2 inch external QVGA display with music controls, 2.2 inch internal QVGA display, stereo Bluetooth, EV-DO, microSD expansion, and a 2 megapixel camera, all of which are ready to sit just above the KRZR in Virgin's stable. Grab it now for $149 CAD (about $147) on a three-year deal. [Via Mobile In Canada ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Telus adds BlackBerry Curve, Motorola Q9c

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , RIM , Telus Mobility , Windows Mobile , EV-DO , CDMA There are certain phones that seem to have the uncanny ability to unite a fabulous cross section of carriers across North America, and these two are clearly headed in that direction. Telus way up there in Canada has launched the Motorola Q9c and announced the eventual availability of the BlackBerry Curve 8330, giving it a power pack of smartphones embraced by a good number of CDMA cousins to the south. Both devices offer EV-DO data and Bluetooth; the Curve offers up GPS and a 2 megapixel camera, while the Windows Mobile 6-based Q9c makes do with a 1.3 megapixel sensor -- but offers the key bonus of being available immediately for $149.99 CAD on a three-year deal. No release date or pricing for the Curve has been announced. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in] Read - Motorola Q9c Read - BlackBerry Curve Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • Fido picks up Samsung Jack and Motorola Q9h, just like mommy Rogers

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Samsung , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Fido has announced the availability of the Samsung JACK (Americans will know this one better as the BlackJack II ) and the Motorola Q9h , and although both these phones are old news for customers of Rogers proper, the handsets are actually a pretty big deal for folks on Fido. Why? Well, it turns out these are now the only Windows Mobile devices available on the carrier; prior to this, the Nokia E62 was the only smartphone available, period. One thing, though Rogers: let's try to tighten up the turnaround time on letting your goodies filter down to your subsidiary, k? • Fido wakes up, remembers to offer Motorola RAZR 2 V9

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Hello, Fido! Welcome to, oh, about two months ago. We know that you live in Rogers' ginormous shadow , but let's try to be more on the ball, k? From the looks of your RAZR 2 product page, you're still a little sleepy, too: "Cristal [sic] Talk" isn't how Moto spells it -- and as curious as we are about "pear to peer gaming," we're pretty sure you meant "peer to peer." Anyhoo, unlike Rogers' V9, it looks like Fido is getting the same pinkish color scheme that AT&T is rocking -- for better or for worse -- and features the usual V9 goodness: HSDPA, A2DP, a 2 megapixel cam, microSD expansion, and so on. Speaking of microSD, Fido throws a 2GB card into the deal, but being a couple months behind the bleeding edge doesn't come cheap -- it'll run $150 on a three-year contract after $125 rebate.
