  • Extra-cheap Motorola phone in the making, in and for China

Motorola has built cheap phones for a long time now, whether they are from the W family or just that 9-mm thick MotoFone. And, let’s admit it, a low-cost handset has more chances to be sold in tens of thousands of units than an expensive one. So, it seems that Motorola wants to push the [...]
  • Motorola's VE75 gets detailed in pictures

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , GSM , EDGE We only peeped the Linux-powered Motorola VE75 a short week ago and the good people at China's Zol.com.cn have already loaded their site to bursting with pics from every angle. While the site doesn't offer up anything new in the nitty-gritty detail department, it does include a handful of interface pics if you were left curious from our first mention . Release date is listed as mid-August for about 3000 Yuan -- or roughly $450. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Motorola Ischia EM330 for China approved by FCC

It appears that Motorola either doesn’t have the strength or the resources to pump out great phones like the Motorola ZN5 every month for the rest of their life as a company, so they work on “small stuff” every once in a while. The upcoming Motorola EM330, a.k.a. Ischia, is an example of this, as its [...]
  • Motorola's VE75 slider invades China

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Linux , GSM , EDGE Nothing says "I love you" like sending every single one of your hot new handset models your way, and that's pretty much the beautiful romance that's going on between Moto and China as of late. The A1600 , A1800 , and A810 have all induced various levels of lust from outsiders who can't get their paws on 'em (not yet, anyway), and now we've got another little bundle of Linux-powered joy to drool over, the VE75 slider. It'll happily swallow a pair of SIMs (as so many Asian market handsets tend to do) and offers EDGE data, a 2 megapixel camera, WQVGA display, and microSD slot. It'll be available -- and we use the term "available" loosely until a more global announcement is made -- in black and white. [Via Unwired View ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Motorola A810 gets official in MING series' shadow

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Linux , GSM The new A1600 and A1800 out of Moto's touchy MING series have already been fully outed, but it turns out Moto wants to bundle a third touchscreen Linux piece in there to make a complete set: the A810, which goes to retail without that MING name attached. In the press release, Motorola comes right out and calls it "entry-level" -- and considering that the 2 megapixel camera and polarizing styling fall well short of the more elegant, luxuriously appointed MINGs, that's no big shocker. It's available in black and white, features an integrated 3.5mm headphone jack, and is available now in Chinese retailers. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Moto MING A1600, A1800 and A810 now Official

It was announced today that Motorola has officially launched three new handsets for its PDA market: the A810, MING A1600 and MING A1800. This has been expected, as the A1600 and A1800 were quietly announced a couple weeks ago. Pen-based PDA handsets are rather popular in China because they have been designed to accomodate the Chinese [...]
  • Motorola finally officializes Motorola ZN5 with Wi-Fi, 5MP Kodak camera

I don’t know if this is still news to you, since you’ve probably already inspected all the leaked specs, features, details, and official photos to death, but Motorola has just made the Motorola ZN5 official in China. Yes, that rectangular one with the 5 megapixel Kodak camera. As you may already know, and like I mentioned [...]
  • Motorola A1800 live on Motorola's Chinese site

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Linux , GSM , CDMA One-half of Motorola's refreshed MING line over in China, the A1800 , has made its official entrance. Like the A1600 and the original A1200, the A1800's main claims to fame are a Linux-based operating system, full touchscreen, and a trick translucent flip that doubles as an earpiece. Where the phone does one better than its siblings, though, is with support for both CDMA and GSM networks -- albeit with nothing more than 1xRTT and GPRS data, respectively. Other goodies include a 3 megapixel autofocus cam, GPS, and big, heapin' scoops of envy from the rest of the world's citizenry. [Via Boy Genius Report ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Motorola A1800 now available in China

The curious little touchscreen Motorola handset called the Motoming A1800 is now available in China, according to some reports. As we earlier noted, it will be a stylus-based touchscreen smartphone with built-in GPS. It’s not much of a looker, though, so we can’t exactly say that its a sight for sore eyes. The Motorola MING A1800 [...]
  • First live pics of FCC-approved Motorola L800t

It’s been a very busy week for the FCC, and the latest handset it mercifully allows to come out alive of its offices is a still unannounced candy bar handset from Motorola. It’s the Motorola L800t, which first appeared in Motorola’s leaked Asian roadmap for 2008. It seems pretty slick from the outside, but will [...]
  • Motorola L800t gets FCC blessing on way to China's TD-SCDMA

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , GSM , EDGE Remember that rumored L800t that got outed as part of Motorola's Asian lineup for '08 not long ago? We still can't really confirm that it's called the L800t, but we can confirm that the device itself is real thanks to an FCC approval -- and really, that's all that matters, isn't it? This unassuming candybar should mark Moto's first foray into China's budding TD-SCDMA network that hopes to eventually blanket the country's metropolitan areas with a proprietary form of 3G. The next question, naturally, is why the phone has found its way into American labs when it'll be biding its time over in Beijing, and the answer is pretty simple: we've got EDGE data on the 1900MHz band here, so theoretically, it could be used (with reduced performance) in the States -- just don't expect any high-speed action out of it. • Evidence builds for Motorola's 2008 lineup

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , GSM New leaks out of China are consistent with previous rumors, suggesting that Motorola's 2008 phalanx of mobiles is starting to gel -- for the Asia region, anyway, and there's really no knowing whether we'll see any of these stateside. Both of the new MINGs are pictured here, bearing the A1600 and A1800 model designations as expected; the big difference seems to be dual SIM support in the A1800, along with revised styling. Speaking of dual SIM, the VE75 slider will do 'em too, adding a 2 megapixel camera and a generously sized 2.6 inch WQVGA display. The long-rumored 5 megapixel product of Moto's cooperation with Kodak, the so-called ZN5, gets pictured here as well; at first glance we can't say we're impressed, but let's not dive too deep into it seeing how the picture is the size of a fricking thimble. Finally, we learn that Moto's jumping on the TD-SCDMA bandwagon quite early, working to pump out the L800t candybar; the 220 x 176 resolution isn't going to blow anyone away, but hey, at least it'll blaze across the interwebs at the Olympics this summer. Maybe . [Via Unwired View ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
