Released to coincide with the NCAA's annual March Madness basketball tournament , the ad-subsidized MySI Mobile app--developed via the Action Engine Mobile Application Platform--enables sports fans to select and track scores, schedules and standings for their favorite teams as well as view photos from Sports Illustrated magazine, read breaking sports news and set calendar alerts for upcoming tilts. Beyond college basketball, MySI Mobile coverage extends across the NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB as well as college football.   • ROK Entertainment acquires Geniem

    Mobile technology and applications developer ROK Entertainment Group announced it has acquired a 51% controlling interest in Finnish mobile and web applications development firm Geniem. Focusing on branded mobile and web applications for media, brands and carriers, Geniem boasts more than 15 million on-device portal mobile installations as well as mobile marketing partnerships with the likes of ABC, SonyBMG, Pepsi and Volvo. Geniem also targets operators with a newly-launched, white-label mobile social network product. "This acquisition marks another milestone in the development of ROK as it augments our existing mobile products portfolio by placing us in the forefront of on-device portals, Bluetooth technologies and social media via mobile and web applications," said ROK CEO Laurence Alexander in a prepared statement. "Geniem's technology is ideally positioned to power the new generation of enhanced mobile media services."   • SK Telecom, Citigroup team on mobile banking

    Korean mobile operator SK Telecom announced a joint venture with international financial conglomerate Citigroup to sell mobile banking and payment solutions in the North American and Asian markets. Each firm will invest $8 million to launch San Francisco-based Mobile Money Venture, which will provide a series of mobile transactional services similar to SK Telecom's Moneta service in Korea. SK Telecom will develop mobile banking software and hardware systems for Citibank customers in Hong Kong and major U.S. cities; pending successful trials, Mobile Money Venture will expand into mobile payment and electronic coupon services. "This is not an exclusive deal, so we will be able to sell the platform to other banks and mobile carriers in other countries later on," SK Telecom spokeswoman Cindy Kang told The Korea Times .   • Microsoft inks Silverlight deal with Nokia

    Microsoft is poised to announce it will create of a version of its Silverlight cross-platform browser plug-in for the Symbian OS, enabling video and interactive web application services for Nokia Series 60 smartphones and Series 40 devices. Microsoft and Nokia are scheduled to announce the agreement today at Microsoft's MIX08 conference. Microsoft is positioning the integrated rich-media Silverlight solution as an alternative to Adobe's Flash Player, and already boasts content partnerships with NBC and Major League Baseball. Microsoft will release a Windows Mobile-based version of Silverlight later this year, according to John Case, general manager of Microsoft's developer division: "The whole Silverlight strategy is to provide one programming model and ubiquity," Case told CNET .   • Zumobi signs distribution deal with Microsoft

    Mobile user experience solutions developer ZenZui announced a partnership deal with Microsoft, which will distribute the firm's Zooming User Interface and mobile widget platform via Windows Mobile-based devices. The Zumobi UI originated in Microsoft's IP Ventures program under the ZenZui brand. "Currently shipping on devices from more than 48 device makers with 125 mobile operators in 55 countries, Windows Mobile is one of the most accessible and familiar mobile computing platforms," said Zumobi CEO Eric Hertz in a prepared statement. "This strategic partnership benefits all of our constituencies--consumers, developers, content providers, carriers and advertisers--and enables us to continue building momentum quickly with our audience of techno-culturists and mobile business users."
