  • CORPORATE: Apple announces iPhone SW upgrade with built-in Exchange ActiveSync

Sync and OTA sync was one of the strengths of the combination between Windows Mobile and Exchange but for a long time, Windows Mobile isn't alone anymore, latest since Nokia and Sony Ericsson licensed Exchange ActiveSync some years ago too. And now Apple is the next. Apple yesterday previewed its iPhone 2.0 software, scheduled for release this June, and announced the immediate availability of a beta release of the software to selected developers and enterprise customers. The iPhone 2.0 beta release includes both the iPhone Software Development Kit (SDK) as well as new enterprise features such as support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync to provide secure, over-the-air push E-Mail, contacts and calendars as well as remote wipe, and the addition of Cisco IPsec VPN for encrypted access to private corporate networks. • INTERVIEW: Microsoft will not compete with Apple's iPhone but continues with Windows Mobile

In an interview with German Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates made clear that Microsoft will not (yet?) launch a product that directly competes with Apple's iPhone. This was speculated after the first Windows Mobile 7 screenshots unveiled earlier this week. In the interview, Gates is quoted that Microsoft don't want to that (competing with the iPhone) but rather continue to concentrate on the Windows Mobile platform itself. At the end - if you read between the lines - it also means that "Zune Phone" cannot be expected anytime soon - as long as Zune isn't part of the Windows Mobile platform itself (think of an updated Windows Media Player experience): [ Permalink ] (c) 2008 by the::unwired - All Rights Reserved
