  • Tranzda shows four Linux smartphones -- GSM or CDMA, your choice

Filed under: Handsets , Others , Linux , GSM , EDGE , CDMA Tranzda is starting to step up its game and really push its Newplus Linux stack in earnest, debuting four new models on its site -- plus a fifth, the T818, that it's being a little more secretive about. The TGP-369, TFX-326, TGP-802, and TFX-320 cover both the CDMA and GSM bases, and include some notable features like a fingerprint scanner on the 802, GPS, and RFID capability on certain models. In terms of appearance, all of the shown models seem to be modest upgrades from the Newplus-powered PM328 we've seen in the past, though the UI still looks like it could use a little more work. • Motorola A1800 live on Motorola's Chinese site

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Linux , GSM , CDMA One-half of Motorola's refreshed MING line over in China, the A1800 , has made its official entrance. Like the A1600 and the original A1200, the A1800's main claims to fame are a Linux-based operating system, full touchscreen, and a trick translucent flip that doubles as an earpiece. Where the phone does one better than its siblings, though, is with support for both CDMA and GSM networks -- albeit with nothing more than 1xRTT and GPRS data, respectively. Other goodies include a 3 megapixel autofocus cam, GPS, and big, heapin' scoops of envy from the rest of the world's citizenry. [Via Boy Genius Report ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Motorola RAZR 2 hands-on

Filed under: Handsets , Features , Motorola , Java , Linux , 1xRTT , GSM , GPRS , EDGE , EV-DO , HSDPA , UMTS , CDMA Well, it's finally here, the RAZR 2 , proper sequel to the Motorola RAZR, one of the best-selling cellphones of all time. This newb's got big shoes to fill, but at least in its GSM / EDGE and CDMA variants it's 2mm smaller (sorry HSDPA fans, it's the same thickness for that flavor of 3G). For fans of the RAZR form factor, though, this is what you've been waiting for: two huge, crisp QVGA screens, Moto's JUIX Java Linux platform, 3G, HTML browser, the works. All that's yet to be seen is the price and carriers; we're guessing somewhere in the range of $500, like where the original RAZR debuted. (Also, we did spot Alltel and T-Mobile up in here.) We've got plenty of gallery shots to indulge yourself with, enjoy. Gallery: Motorola RAZR 2 hands-on Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Could the LAZR be the RAZR 2?

Filed under: Handsets , Motorola , Linux , GSM , CDMA And just when we thought "LAZR" was about the least creative name Motorola could've possibly dreamed up for its shiny morsel with the giant external screen, Boy Genius reports that the handset will roll out the door with the "RAZR 2" moniker instead. The choice of verbage there is actually very interesting, because it indicates that Moto views this clamshell as the true successor to the RAZR -- not only one of the first true fashion phones, but the singular device that pulled Motorola out of its rut and back into the manufacturer big leagues. Whether the RAZR 2 will be able to perform the same magic trick, of course, remains to be seen. Boy Genius also reports that the phone will be available in both GSM and CDMA versions (cross your fingers, Sprint and Verizon customers) and will in fact rock a memory expansion slot by the time it makes it into stores. We're wearing our lucky baseball caps today in the hope we see it in official form this week at CTIA in Orlando, and we suggest y'all do the same.
