  • Verizon gets Motorola VU30 next month, Nokia 7205 not until December?

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Motorola , Nokia , Samsung , Verizon Wireless , EV-DO , CDMA So we don't think Verizon really intended to leak any handset release dates via a slide about Mobile Email launches on various devices -- but alas, they did. At present, the Moto VU30 is scheduled for a September 9 date with destiny, and it seems that its name has changed from "Utopia" to "Rapture" somewhere along the way. Further out, the LG VX8360 (which we're guessing will be an update for the forgettable VX8350 ) gets real in October -- and unfortunately, that shiny, hot mess of CDMA technology from Nokia, the 7205 , appears to be shelved all the way back to December. There's also a u440 "Cleo" from Samsung in there somewhere, too, though no launch window is listed. Anyway, sorry for the interruption, Verizon; please, continue fascinating us with your stories about mobile email. Permalink | Email this | Comments

  • LG Chocolate 3 to be released July 14th by Verizon

Part of a trio of new phones that’ll be released by LG this quarter, the LG Chocolate 3 will start selling for Verizon on July 14th. • LG Chocolate 3 on Verizon: July 14 for $129

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Verizon Wireless , EV-DO , CDMA phoneArena is reporting that the latest incarnation of Verizon's Chocolate series, the clamshell Chocolate 3 , will be available on July 14. It's said that the phone will run $129 on a two-year contract after the redemption of a $50 rebate -- not exactly cheap, but where else are you going to find a Verizon phone with an FM transmitter in baby blue? That's what we thought. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • LG Chocolate 3, press shot style

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Verizon Wireless , EV-DO , CDMA While you're waiting for LG's very latest Chocolate to show up in Verizon stores next month, have a gander at some high-quality shots of the clamshell -- which we understand is not actually edible, by the by. The Chocolate 3 will be available in both black and blue (to start, anyway, though we wouldn't be surprised to see a few more over the course of the phone's lifespan) and features a full gigabyte of internal storage for the tunes in addition to the standard microSD slot. That's one heck of a secondary display there, isn't it? Gallery: LG Chocolate 3, press shot style Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • LG intros KM380 music phone in China

Filed under: Handsets , LG , GSM Thank you, LG, thank you for getting it. A music phone should have a 3.5mm headphone jack -- no exceptions -- and the new KM380 destined for the Chinese market has exactly that, not to mention a clever set of external controls on the outside of the flip dedicated to tune control. Failing to bring something like this onto the low end of your American or European offerings is pretty weak, but maybe this marks the beginning of a new chapter for you -- a "Golden Age" of music phones. Or maybe not. We can hope. [Via Slashphone ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • LG's new Wine Phone has big screens, comfort

Filed under: Handsets , LG If you find yourself squinting at your celly but can't bear the thought of investing in a Jitterbug , LG has a phone that might catch your (bespectacled) eye. The new senior-friendly SV390/LV3900 Wine Phone features a larger screen inside (2.4-inches) and out (1.8-inches) for reading text "comfortably," plus larger buttons for aging fingers to press more comfortably, too. Beyond the up-sized screens your $400 gets you leather texture on the outside and a fancy digital camera , though not much else, much like LG's slightly smaller (and equally featureless) SV300 from last year. It's available now only in Korea, meaning those with bad eyes and big thumbs in the U.S. will either have to stick with their Jitterbugs or just keep squinting. We'd squint. • LG LX400, Motorola V950, and pair of Samsungs round out Sprint's QChat fare

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Motorola , Samsung , Sprint , EV-DO , CDMA As we've long known , Sanyo isn't the only company contributing goodies to the opening volley of CDMA Direct Connect devices for Sprint -- LG, Motorola, and Samsung all want in on the action, too. LG brings the LX400 , featuring a 1.3 megapixel camera in a burgundy shell; it's not our cup of tea, but folks looking for something on the non-rugged side of the PTT spectrum might find their soulmate here. Next up, the Motorola V950 is pretty notable since it marks Moto's inevitable foray away from its own iDEN tech and toward something just a little more modern to support the push-to-talk functionality its users so deeply love. It's a media powerhouse, too, thanks to external music controls, a microSD slot, stereo Bluetooth, and a 2 megapixel cam. Finally, Samsung comes to the table with two models: the rubberized Z400 (surprisingly appearing to be the most hardcore of the foursome) that trades consumer-friendly features for a tough shell -- though they've still felt the need to slap a 1.3 megapixel cam on there -- and the Z700, a fancy, refined set that looks fit for duty in the most fancy of pockets and shares much of its spec sheet with the Moto V950. Pricing and availability haven't been announced for any of the four, but we imagine they'll be pretty reasonable given the overall modesty across the line. • LG KF300: the Wine Phone goes global

Filed under: Handsets , LG , GSM , EDGE We weren't particularly pumped about LG's so-called Wine Phone, the SV300 , when we saw it last year for the Korean market, so we're definitely not pumped about it now. Especially when you consider that in the process of its transformation to the KF300 (a member of the fashion-centric "KF" series, you'll notice), it apparently managed to lose 3G somewhere along the way. Then again, with buttons the size of Chiclets and a name like "Wine Phone," we guess the target audience won't have much use for anything that travels more than a small handful of kilobits per second. Other features -- if you can really call them that -- include a 2 megapixel camera, 10 megabytes of onboard storage with microSD expansion, and Bluetooth. Thanks, but we'll just take an actual glass of wine instead if that's quite alright. [Via Unwired View ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • AT&T release dates through May (hint: no Vu)

Filed under: Handsets , Features , LG , Motorola , Samsung , Sony Ericsson , UTStarcom , ATT , Palm OS , Windows Mobile , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS We've just received a fresh round of release dates on AT&T, and if we had to pick a single word to describe the theme here, it'd be "colors." Shades upon shades of phones -- both new and old -- will see a release on AT&T in the next couple of months, starting with the Sony Ericsson Z750a , the first 3G Sony Ericsson to be released by a carrier in the States (but not in North America -- that honor belongs to Rogers ); it'll hit in your choice of gray, pink, or purple in early April. Like the a737 , the a437 gets done up in a whole spectrum -- gray, gold, and red, to be specific -- come mid April, alongside the workhorse Motorola V3xx in lavender, pink, gray, platinum, and red (noticing a trend with this whole gray thing?). It looks like the V3xx releases will be spaced out over a few weeks, for whatever reason, tapering off by the end of May. The now-ancient UTStarcom 5700 finally sees release toward the end of April more than a year after we first saw it in the FCC's business, giving a lower-end choice to the Windows Mobile faithful. Finally, May should bring about the LG CU720 Shine in black, following its initial offerings of silver and red. Oh, and it looks like the Motorola Z9 and the black Centro should be widely available pretty much any minute now -- stay tuned. Strangely missing from the list is the Vu , though that doesn't necessarily mean it won't be released by the end of May, it merely means that AT&T's not sure yet. Surprise, surprise. • LG's 5.1 megapixel OZ: a Casio W53CA hides behind the curtain

Filed under: Handsets , LG Well lookie here, LG just announced a followup to its LH2300 Touch Web phone. This one's for the twisty-fold clamshell fans -- a design which makes it look positively Japanese superphone-like. In fact, we're pretty sure it's just the Casio W53CA with LG branding and new Hello UI for Korean consumption. Interesting given that Korea certainly isn't lacking in mega-spec'd phones. Anyway, given the Exilim underpinnings it's no surprise to find a 5.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, 28-mm lens, color correction, 9-point auto focus, and built-in anti-shake technology bunged into the backside. The LCD measures 2.8-inches (down from the LH2300's 3-inch LCD) yet still manages the same 800 x 480 pixel resolution for DMB television and landscape or portrait web browsing. Inside the little 18.9-mm thin handset you'll find 4GB NAND / 1GB SDRAM and microSD expansion for all your snaps and VGA / 30fps video. Coming to a 3G, CDMA network near you in April... just long as you live in South Korea or Japan. Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
