  • LG's VX8360 for Verizon in gory detail

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Verizon Wireless , EV-DO , CDMA So Verizon's still trying to clear out VX8350 inventory, but as soon as it does, we'll all start to see this little gem show up. The VX8360's been rumored for some time now -- heck, it was originally pegged for an October '08 launch -- but there's really no need to get too worked up about the delay, seeing how your $50 on contract after rebate is only going to land you a 1.3-megapixel camera and a positively forgettable design. EV-DO and VZ Navigator support are nice, but frankly, it's starting to get hard to find a Verizon phone that doesn't support nav, so call us when this is free on contract, guys! • LG Swift clamshell launches for $49.99 on Alltel

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Alltel , EV-DO , CDMA So, you're looking for simplicity, huh? Have a gander at the LG Swift, which is now available on Alltel Wireless for those with the most basic of needs. The clamshell boasts a "next-generation keypad featuring Fastap Press-to-Experience keys, which integrates six raised one-touch access Quick Keys with a traditional numeric keypad," and beyond that, it also offers up external music control buttons, twin speakers, Bluetooth support, a 1.3-megapixel camera, one-touch speakerphone and a memory card slot. Sadly, the headphone jack is of the 2.5-millimeter variety, though you can choose between red and blue color schemes. If you're sold already, all's that left to do is hand over your $49.99 and agree to being locked in for two solid years. • LG VX5500 for Verizon finally gets pictured, world lets out a collective sigh of relief

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Verizon Wireless , CDMA Alright, so maybe this non-3G crapshell isn't the phone that the world has been waiting for; maybe not by a long shot. Be that as it may, the VX5400 -replacing VX5500 isn't looking half bad, featuring (if you can call these "features") a VGA camera, Bluetooth, and count 'em -- not one, but two displays. Looks like it's still tracking for a late October release, so get your wallets out, but don't plan on pulling out more than a few crisp bills because it'll run a mere $49.99 on a two-year setup. • LG Lotus, Samsung Rant and Highnote now available from Sprint

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Samsung , Sprint , EV-DO , CDMA Those crazy new Samsungs and LGs (well, LG singular) reppin' Sprint's fall lineup have dropped into stores dressed and ready for retail, and text fanatics are definitely the ones making out like bandits here. Starting out on the low end, the Samsung Rant drops by for $49.99 on contract in your choice of red or black, giving the LG Rumor some solid competition and upping the ante with EV-DO. The Highnote, also a fruit of Samsung's powerful loins, rocks the music angle with an integrated loudspeaker that functions as the second slide of a dual-sliding mechanism -- it runs $99.99 on contract in red or blue. Finally, the Lotus from LG takes the whole clamshell concept and flattens it out a bit, making room for a full QWERTY keyboard underneath along with a landscape display. It's available in purple (and not just any purple -- fancy purple) or black for $149.99 on contract. Read - Samsung Rant Read - Samsung Highnote Read - LG Lotus Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • LG VX8360 gets pictured catalog-style, looks round

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Verizon Wireless , EV-DO , CDMA Last we'd heard, this bad boy is coming in just a couple weeks' time, so it's good to see some promotional materials floating around making mention of it, right? The VX8360 is said to feature a 1.3-megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth, EV-DO, microSD expansion, and if we had to venture an educated guess, we'd say a color secondary display with external music controls. Nothing to write home about, granted -- but we'd be willing to bet Verizon is gonna part with these for a song. [Thanks, Thomas S.] Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Minimalists, drunkards rejoice: LG Wine goes live on Bell

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Bell Mobility , CDMA If "function follows form" is your mantra, listen up -- especially if you happen to be in Canada. LG's curiously-named Wine has come to the land of polar bears, maple syrup, and adorable baby seals, offering very little in the way of bells or whistles (seriously, we're talking about a 1.3-megapixel camera and Bluetooth 1.2 here) but keeping the style dial turned to 11 -- and hey, at least it's still got a QVGA main display and GPS packed in there somewhere. It'll run you $79.95 now on a three-year contract in your choice of black or the always tasteful gold. [Via MobileSyrup ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Verizon gets Motorola VU30 next month, Nokia 7205 not until December?

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Motorola , Nokia , Samsung , Verizon Wireless , EV-DO , CDMA So we don't think Verizon really intended to leak any handset release dates via a slide about Mobile Email launches on various devices -- but alas, they did. At present, the Moto VU30 is scheduled for a September 9 date with destiny, and it seems that its name has changed from "Utopia" to "Rapture" somewhere along the way. Further out, the LG VX8360 (which we're guessing will be an update for the forgettable VX8350 ) gets real in October -- and unfortunately, that shiny, hot mess of CDMA technology from Nokia, the 7205 , appears to be shelved all the way back to December. There's also a u440 "Cleo" from Samsung in there somewhere, too, though no launch window is listed. Anyway, sorry for the interruption, Verizon; please, continue fascinating us with your stories about mobile email. Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • LG Chocolate 3 meets retail destiny on July 13

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Verizon Wireless , EV-DO , CDMA We'd heard that the latest incarnation of the Chocolate series from LG on Verizon would be launching next Monday , but we've got some great news to close out the week, fans: you'll be able to plunk down your cash a full day early. • LG Chocolate 3 on Verizon: July 14 for $129

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Verizon Wireless , EV-DO , CDMA phoneArena is reporting that the latest incarnation of Verizon's Chocolate series, the clamshell Chocolate 3 , will be available on July 14. It's said that the phone will run $129 on a two-year contract after the redemption of a $50 rebate -- not exactly cheap, but where else are you going to find a Verizon phone with an FM transmitter in baby blue? That's what we thought. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • LG Chocolate 3, press shot style

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Verizon Wireless , EV-DO , CDMA While you're waiting for LG's very latest Chocolate to show up in Verizon stores next month, have a gander at some high-quality shots of the clamshell -- which we understand is not actually edible, by the by. The Chocolate 3 will be available in both black and blue (to start, anyway, though we wouldn't be surprised to see a few more over the course of the phone's lifespan) and features a full gigabyte of internal storage for the tunes in addition to the standard microSD slot. That's one heck of a secondary display there, isn't it? Gallery: LG Chocolate 3, press shot style Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • LG LX400, Motorola V950, and pair of Samsungs round out Sprint's QChat fare

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Motorola , Samsung , Sprint , EV-DO , CDMA As we've long known , Sanyo isn't the only company contributing goodies to the opening volley of CDMA Direct Connect devices for Sprint -- LG, Motorola, and Samsung all want in on the action, too. LG brings the LX400 , featuring a 1.3 megapixel camera in a burgundy shell; it's not our cup of tea, but folks looking for something on the non-rugged side of the PTT spectrum might find their soulmate here. Next up, the Motorola V950 is pretty notable since it marks Moto's inevitable foray away from its own iDEN tech and toward something just a little more modern to support the push-to-talk functionality its users so deeply love. It's a media powerhouse, too, thanks to external music controls, a microSD slot, stereo Bluetooth, and a 2 megapixel cam. Finally, Samsung comes to the table with two models: the rubberized Z400 (surprisingly appearing to be the most hardcore of the foursome) that trades consumer-friendly features for a tough shell -- though they've still felt the need to slap a 1.3 megapixel cam on there -- and the Z700, a fancy, refined set that looks fit for duty in the most fancy of pockets and shares much of its spec sheet with the Moto V950. Pricing and availability haven't been announced for any of the four, but we imagine they'll be pretty reasonable given the overall modesty across the line.
