  • Sprint's Q4 lineup: Rumor, Centro, Touch, and Pearl 8130

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , LG , Palm , RIM , Sprint , 1xRTT , EV-DO What started as a trickle of unofficially official shots from Sprint's Q4 pipeline has suddenly become a deluge. Check the LG Rumor, Touch (aka, Vogue), and Blackberry Pearl 8130 (above) all dressed up with Sprint logos and sales-goon positioning points for a Q4 launch. We already saw Palm's Centro, OQO Model 02, LG Rumor and Touch yucking it up in the wild this morning but this is the first time we've seen the 8130 in Sprint, not Verizon attire . The 8130 sports a GPS receiver but no WiFi like we saw in those RIM slides last month yet still packs all the rest of the EV-DO niceties you'd expect. The Touch is EV-DO revision A upgradeable like we heard while the LG Rumor does it's QWERTY thing for the non-Pro crowd. See for yourself in the gallery below. %Gallery-7263% [Thanks, Stephen] Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • Motorola W385, new LG Chocolates live on Verizon

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Motorola , Verizon Wireless , 1xRTT , EV-DO , CDMA Thinking back to when we first caught wind of it , the turnaround on the ambiguously named VX8550 Chocolate from LG wasn't that bad -- but the same can't be said of Verizon's other retail introduction today, the midrange Motorola W385. This thing's been kicking around as a rumored Big Red device since April at the latest -- and yes, we'll admit that our sense of time is a bit skewed, but that's, like, forever . Anyhoo, pick up the VGA-cam'd, 160 x 128 screen'd W385 for $70 after all the contracts and discounts have been applied; meanwhile, the VX8500 successor can be yours for a nice, round hundie. • Verizon, LG intro new Chocolate

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Verizon Wireless , 1xRTT , EV-DO , CDMA We'll spare you the "even sweeter the second time around" punnage that Verizon couldn't help crack and get straight to the point here. Following up its hit VX8500 last year, Verizon has introduced a new Chocolate to its lineup, the aptly-named VX8550 . The re-upped model gets very slightly trimmer by shaving a few hundredths of an inch off every dimension from its predecessor, a new keypad with touch feedback, and something LG is calling "Trace Motion" -- some sort of lighting that works in conjunction with the new nav wheel. Carried over from the original Chocolate are the 1.3 megapixel cam, microSD slot, and wealth of music-related features, though sadly, the rumored 3.5mm jack ain't here. Look for it in stores July 9 in your choice of "Black Cherry" and "Blue Mint." Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • Sprint announces Muziq from LG

Filed under: Handsets , LG , 1xRTT , EV-DO , CDMA Shoring up its music-friendly line alongside the UpStage from Samsung , Sprint has announced its "Muziq," the Fusic's spiritual successor from LG. While it'll face some serious musicphone competition from across the CDMA / GSM divide later this week , the Muziq holds its own with some interesting features including an integrated FM transmitter that can send tuneage to any FM radio within ten feet. It also offers up stereo Bluetooth, a microSD slot supporting up to 4GB of expansion (a 64MB card is included in box), 1.3 megapixel camera, and sideloading of DRM-free music via USB. Look for it to hit on July 15 for $99 on contract. Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • LG enV, now in orange

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Verizon Wireless , 1xRTT , EV-DO , CDMA As expected , LG's hip lil' QWERTY number, the VX9900 enV, has re-dropped in orange. The feature list is pretty much the same as the original , they've just gone ahead and gutted the phone's stiff, businesslike black and replaced it with a decidedly brighter hue. Get it online -- it's an online exclusive for the moment -- for $150 on contract. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in] Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • New Chocolate: LG's VX8550 for Verizon comes into view

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Verizon Wireless , 1xRTT , EV-DO , CDMA Sorry, Shine hopefuls, the VX8700 will have to hold you over for at least a bit longer. After some buzz had suggested that the FCC-outed VX8550 would be a true Shine slider for Verizon, we now have word from sources that it'll actually be a facelift to the year-old VX8500 Chocolate . For what it's worth, the changes are definitely for the better -- we'd dare say LG's been listening to the VX8500's critics -- with properly placed Send / End buttons, Lock switch on the side, and what appears to be a true 3.5mm headphone jack (still an all-too-rare feature on handsets). Some are reporting that the d-pad is considerably easier to use and possibly "used differently" than its predecessor, though what that means remains to be seen. Documents suggest that it'll hit in black, red, and blue, though if the original is any gauge, we can expect a full rainbow of hues hitting over several months. No word on a release date or price, but with press shots in the pipe, we figure it might show up in time to commemorate the VX8500's one-year anniversary.
