  • LG shows off GD910 Watch Phone, production later this year

Filed under: Handsets , LG , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Now that we have serious buy-in from a major phone manufacturer to bring watch phones to market, we're just going to go ahead and say it: the Tracy era has begun. LG's just announced that the GD910 will start production later in 2009, featuring 3G, Bluetooth, speakerphone, an integrated music player, and a touchscreen in case those three side-mounted buttons don't cut it. We hope to have a hands-on shortly! LG shows off GD910 Watch Phone, production later this year originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Wed, 07 Jan 2009 11:28:00 EST. • LG Incite for sale on AT&T's site, $199.99 on contract

Filed under: Handsets , LG , ATT , Windows Mobile , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Goodness, that was quick! We'd expected LG's Incite smartphone to pop up maybe by the end of the week if we were lucky, did all of our homework, and went to bed on time, but AT&T's gone ahead and jumped the gun by throwing up the glossy touchphone for sale already. To recap, most of the rumored specs were spot on: wide QVGA, 3-megapixel cam, Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, WiFi, and GPS round out a promising feature set, but you're going to pay to the tune of $299.99 on contract before a $100 mail-in rebate on a Visa gift card. What happened to good, old-fashioned cash? [Thanks, Luis] LG Incite for sale on AT&T's site, $199.99 on contract originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Tue, 18 Nov 2008 01:19:00 EST. • iPhone 3G overtakes the RAZR as best-selling domestic handset

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Motorola , RIM , Apple According to a report from NPD, sales of cellphones have shifted in a manner which should shock and stun even a casual observer. Apparently for the first time in years, Motorola's ubiquitous RAZR has been overtaken in consumer sales... by the iPhone 3G. This is a watershed moment for handset sales in the US, marking not only a shift away from the dominant market leader, but a turn towards more complex, full-featured devices. The news comes hot on the heels of NPD's previous findings , which still placed the RAZR in the top spot -- though with ever-decreasing numbers. In that same report, the iPhone found itself in second place, but it appears that flagging interest in the inescapable dumbphone coupled with the recent iPhone PR blitz have put Apple's moneymaker into the top position. The news is also buoyed by recent reports that Apple has overtaken RIM as the number two smartphone vendor, and a J.D. Power study which found affection for the device waxing in the extreme. Overall, however, handset sales fell 15 percent year-over-year, and LG managed to snag the top brand position, with two models in the top five. Still, if there already wasn't a clear indication of the market moving towards both smartphones and touchscreen devices, this should give everyone a clearer picture of both the public's wants, and the power of Cupertino's ad-men. Full PR after the break. • LG sells one million Prada phones globally, Prada II in Q4

Filed under: Handsets , LG In a brief press release, LG has announced total sales of one million Prada handsets worldwide. Not bad for a March 2007 launch. The bigger news though is that LG and Prada will launch a new handset in Europe in Q4 of 2008. Prada II , we're ready. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Sprint shows fall dumbphone lineup, new "One Click" user interface

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Motorola , Samsung , Sprint , EV-DO , CDMA Sure enough, there wasn't anything squished about the image we saw of the LG LX600 a while back -- it was just loosening the belt a couple notches to make room for a full QWERTY keyboard running across its naughty bits. Oh, and it's no longer the LX600; turns out Sprint is releasing it as the Lotus, one of four all-new dumbphones for the autumn months to complement today's announcement of the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro . It'll be available next month for $149.99 on contract. Others in the mix include the Samsung Highnote -- a music-focused dual slider that dedicates one slide direction to a hefty little loudspeaker -- and the curiously-named Rant, which apes the LG Rumor's form factor to give text addicts another affordable option. Like the Lotus, the Highnote and Rant will both hit in October for $99.99 and $49.99, respectively. Meanwhile, iDEN freaks (and we use that term in the most loving way possible) will be happy to see that they're getting their grubby, calloused hands on another rugged option, the Motorola i576 flip. It'll start getting beaten senseless at retail come October 19 for $69.99. Sprint's also using those three new consumer sets (sorry, i576) to premiere "One Click," a new UI paradigm for its non-smartphone devices that allows folks to drop all sorts of commonly-used features with information-rich icons right on the home screen for... well, one-click access, hence the name. New Katana Eclipse colors coming later this fall will feature the new software, too. • BlackBerry Thunder caught on video, with a ninja

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , LG , RIM BREW Ninja, who readily (and oddly for a ninja) enough admits that he's a mobile QA engineer over at Yahoo! Mobile, just scooped 3x phones in this quickie 4 and half minute video. The HTC Coke -- a variant of the HTC Touch Pro -- and tiny LG Lotus (AKA, LX600 ) with full QWERTY for Sprint are both interesting, but it's the hands-on video of RIM's touchscreen Thunder that blows our doors. At about 2:50 in, he reveals the BlackBerry Thunder for Verizon saying, "I don't like it, it's, it's an ok phone." His biggest concern seems to be the touchscreen (something we've heard before ) which acts like a button -- you have to actual push the screen, hard, unlike most capacitive touchpanel devices. See for yourself after the break. [Via Crackberry ] Continue reading BlackBerry Thunder caught on video, with a ninja Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • AT&T adds LG Invision to Mobile TV lineup

Filed under: Handsets , Multimedia , LG , ATT , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Just as we'd envisioned , the Invision candybar (if a phone this stubby can, in fact, be called a candybar) from LG is now a reality for AT&T. The phone becomes just AT&T's third to support its MediaFLO -based Mobile TV service, taking a similar line to Samsung's Access by stuffing a landscape display, 1.3-megapixel camera, and HSDPA into a squarish case that's sure to make minimalists and traditionalists swoon; what's more, it also takes the honor of being AT&T's smallest Mobile TV-equipped handset to date. It's available today for $99.99 with a $50 rebate and two years' worth of commitment -- just be sure to factor the cost of the Mobile TV add-on into your budget. • Video: AT&T launching Mobile TV May 4th, demonstrated on LG Vu

Filed under: Handsets , Multimedia , LG , Samsung , ATT MediaFLO is about to cut loose for AT&T customers this morning and we've got video to prove it. After the break you'll find Mobile TV running on LG's new $300 (2-year, after $100 rebate) Vu, one of just two Mobile TV compatible handsets launching on AT&T May 4th -- the other being the $200 (2-year, after $100 rebate) Samsung Access . Performance looks reasonably snappy when scrolling through the channel guide although some of the exclusive PIX and CNN Mobile Live content is not yet available. S'ok, AT&T has three more days to throw the big blue switch on the broadcast TV service which includes a $15/month unlimited Mobile TV access plan. Hear that Verizon? AT&T's about to step all over your portable TV game in the US market. • LG Vus popping up in AT&T stores ahead of launch

Filed under: Handsets , LG , ATT , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Stores have started stocking up on Vus ahead of their launch next week, and we're getting a little photography here to prove it. It looks like this one is an honest-to-goodness CU920, too, meaning it sports MediaFLO reception -- either that, or AT&T was too lazy to put the Mobile TV-less CU915 model in a different package without the "TV" icon on the screen. We're still hearing May 5 is the official launch day for these, but it seems some locations are selling early, so try your luck and let us know how it goes, k? • LG enV(2) graces Verizon tomorrow

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Verizon Wireless , EV-DO , CDMA Get those textin' thumbs ready, peeps, because your latest weapon of choice is just about ready for you. LG's enV(2) -- a phone that we'd argue takes attractive design far more seriously than its predecessor -- will be available in exchange for a reasonable sum of cash (or cash equivalent) tomorrow, April 30, in Verizon stores across the land. Far more than a mere text machine, the enV(2) features a 2 megapixel camera, microSD slot, GPS, and a big ol' 2.4-inch display when the clam is opened. The only question left, really, is black or maroon? Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • LG's 5 megapixel KF750 with DivX rebranded Secret, shhh

Filed under: Handsets , LG LG's KF750 was just announced official-like by the non-rioting folks at Lucky Goldstar. With it, we get the official specs courtesy of, uh, Photography Blog . Why is a site for digital photogs carrying a cellphone press release, you ask? Easy, this one's got a 5 megapixel camera with face recognition and the ability to shoot DivX video at 120fps. A member of LG's Black Label series, the 11.8-mm slider is the thinnest 5 megapixel cameraphone on the market. Unfortunately the press release is heavy on fluff and light on specs so we can only tell you that it'll also be sporting a touch-screen, suite of mobile Google apps, and Bluetooth when it makes its European debut sometime this year, presumably, for an unknown price. Update : A few more details are rolling in: 2.4-inch display, haptic feedback, and available in May.
