  • Alltel announces LG Scoop, Samsung Muse, and red BlackBerry Pearl 8130

Filed under: Handsets , LG , RIM , Samsung , Alltel , EV-DO , CDMA Alltel's emphasizing the cool, fashion-friendly, stylish side of the three phones it's officially announcing today. First up, the LG Scoop is a dead ringer for the Rumor found on Sprint, featuring a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, and a side-sliding QWERTY keyboard for the text maniacs among us; it'll be available in black, blue, and orange. Next, the Samsung Muse is a midrange flip with a penchant for audio (hence the name), rocking out with a 2 megapixel shooter, stereo Bluetooth, and a dedicated music key. Finally, the BlackBerry 8130 -- already launched in "amethyst" -- gets redone in red. No word on exactly when these puppies will be available, but all three will launch before the first quarter's out, and you can preorder the red 8130 immediately. • Crystal ball (or spreadsheet, in this case) reveals Verizon release dates

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Palm , RIM , Samsung , Verizon Wireless , EV-DO , CDMA , Casio We've caught boatloads of noise detailing Verizon's pipeline for the remainder of the year (and possibly into early '08), but exact launch dates have been harder to come by. Granted, the carriers often don't know these until the last minute anyway -- network test failures and supply problems being what they are -- but Boy Genius Report has scored a spreadsheet that should at least start to give us a rough idea of what we can expect for the next few months. The Samsung i760 finally (and we do mean finally ) launches on October 19, followed by the Juke two days later on the 21st. The first of November sees the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 , LG VX5400 , and Palm Treo 755p (probably right about the same time Alltel gets it ), with the LG Venus coming just a short few days later on the 4th. The 15th sees two new shades for the G'zOne Type-S -- black and "burgundy / gold" -- alongside the Samsung u900 "FlipShot." The ultra-cool LG Voyager and G'zOne "Type-Sptt" (possibly just a Type-S without the cam) slide in on November 18, with two new VX8550 shades dropping on the 21st. Whew! Now, the real question: how many of these dates are actually gonna hold? Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • Sprint's Q4 lineup: Rumor, Centro, Touch, and Pearl 8130

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , LG , Palm , RIM , Sprint , 1xRTT , EV-DO What started as a trickle of unofficially official shots from Sprint's Q4 pipeline has suddenly become a deluge. Check the LG Rumor, Touch (aka, Vogue), and Blackberry Pearl 8130 (above) all dressed up with Sprint logos and sales-goon positioning points for a Q4 launch. We already saw Palm's Centro, OQO Model 02, LG Rumor and Touch yucking it up in the wild this morning but this is the first time we've seen the 8130 in Sprint, not Verizon attire . The 8130 sports a GPS receiver but no WiFi like we saw in those RIM slides last month yet still packs all the rest of the EV-DO niceties you'd expect. The Touch is EV-DO revision A upgradeable like we heard while the LG Rumor does it's QWERTY thing for the non-Pro crowd. • Sprint leaks pictures on Q4 2007 handset lineup

The latest document leak comes from Sprint and brings pictures of the carrier’s upcoming handsets for Q4 of 2007. Here we see the slew of smartphones that we expect from Sprint this Fall , including the rumors Palm Centro and Sprint HTC Touch (which, confusingly, is the HTC Vogue, which is the CDMA version of the HTC Touch - confused much?). We’re expecting Sprint to drop the LG Rumor slider-phone on us sometime in Q4. The LG Rumor will be a dual keypad/keyboard hybrid, much like the HTC Libra S720 . But, unlike the Libra S720, the LG Rumor will be a lower-end device - no 3G, no high-megapixel camera, no Windows Mobile 6.0 - and will feature a 1.3 megapixel camera, microSD card slot, Bluetooth, music player, and of course that QWERTY keyboard. Sprint’s Palm Centro will also come onto the scene in Q4, packing a 1.3 megapixel camera and a slew of Sprint software - Sprint TV, Sprint Music Store, Sprint Mobile Email, Sprint Instant Messaging, as well as Versamail, Google Maps, and PocketTunes Deluxe media player. And it looks like the Sprint HTC Touch is slated for a late-2007 launch. We can expect the Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional device to complement the TouchFLO interface with the same 400Mhz processor, 2.8 inch screen, Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi, microSD slot, and 2 MP shooter as the HTC Touch - but with EVDO Rev. A in place of EDGE. The BlackBerry Pearl 2 (8130) is the last phone in the leaked lineup and will round out Sprint’s Fall offering with the expected 2 megapixel camera, GPS, Bluetooth with A2DP, microSD slot, and support for Sprint Music Store and Sprint TV. We’re looking forward to Sprint’s smartphone lineup in the coming months. With the HTC Vogue, Palm Centro, and Pearl 2, we’re sure it’s going to be a hit with the young/hip set as well as the tech-head, WinMo6.0 fans out there. • Verizon's roadmap for remainder of '07 gets liberated

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , LG , Motorola , Others , Palm , Samsung , UTStarcom , Verizon Wireless , Palm OS , Windows Mobile , 1xRTT , EV-DO , CDMA phoneArena scored a wealth -- nay, a veritable cornucopia of information detailing Verizon's releases for the rest of 2007, and we can say with some confidence that there's something in here for everyone. Starting with smartphones, SMT5800 , XV6800 , Samsung i760 , and Motorola Q9m should hit in October, October, September, and August (yay, this month!) respectively. A second, business oriented variant of the Q9, dubbed the Q9c, will follow on in the fourth quarter. If Windows Mobile ain't your cup of tea, have a gander at the Palm Treo 755p and RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8130 (pictured), both coming in November. There isn't much to say about the 755p that hasn't already been said, but the 8130 is indeed a Pearl of the "new" variety , upping the cam to 2 megapixels while adding A2DP and a 3.5mm jack. Turning to dumbphones, Verizon's got the full spread from low to high end. The Samsung U410, self-branded CDM-8630 and LG VX8350 all appear to be pretty simple flips coming some time this half of the year. The Motorola Z6c looks to be a MediaFLO-less version of the Z6tv slider; the former drops in November while the latter is nebulously scheduled for the second half. Finally, the fancy U700 and U900 flips from Samsung offer 2 and 3 megapixel cams, respectively, and will both be available before the year's out. Whew!
