  • Sprint's Q4 lineup: Rumor, Centro, Touch, and Pearl 8130

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , LG , Palm , RIM , Sprint , 1xRTT , EV-DO What started as a trickle of unofficially official shots from Sprint's Q4 pipeline has suddenly become a deluge. Check the LG Rumor, Touch (aka, Vogue), and Blackberry Pearl 8130 (above) all dressed up with Sprint logos and sales-goon positioning points for a Q4 launch. We already saw Palm's Centro, OQO Model 02, LG Rumor and Touch yucking it up in the wild this morning but this is the first time we've seen the 8130 in Sprint, not Verizon attire . The 8130 sports a GPS receiver but no WiFi like we saw in those RIM slides last month yet still packs all the rest of the EV-DO niceties you'd expect. The Touch is EV-DO revision A upgradeable like we heard while the LG Rumor does it's QWERTY thing for the non-Pro crowd. See for yourself in the gallery below. %Gallery-7263% [Thanks, Stephen] Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • Verizon gets official with green enV, exclusive to Circuit City

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Verizon Wireless , 1xRTT , EV-DO , CDMA Yep, it's real ! In case orange or the original gray scheme weren't to your liking, the LG enV on Verizon can now be had in a "hot new green color" (their words, not ours) -- but only at your friendly local Circuit City location. It seems this particular version has been designated as a Circuit City exclusive for the time being, fetching $149.99 after a $50 rebate on contract. The spec sheet remains the same, so unless something about this color really speaks to you, we wouldn't worry about it. [Via PhoneMag ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • LG's VX8350 for Verizon comes into view

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Verizon Wireless , 1xRTT , EV-DO , CDMA The heir apparent to the VX8300 is coming into full focus now, thanks in no small part to an interactive manual popping up over on Verizon's Testman site. The aptly named VX8350 dispenses of its predecessor's unsightly aerial antenna, replaces the external OLED with a traditional color LCD, and ups the max expansion to a full 4GB via microSD; the external music controls, stereo Bluetooth, 1.3 megapixel cam, and 220 x 176 (blech!) primary display all carry over. phoneArena reports that this one will start to phase in as VX8300 stock depletes, running $79 on a two year contract after $50 rebate. • LG enV gets tough in olive drab

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Verizon Wireless , 1xRTT , EV-DO , CDMA So much for any color approaching normalcy, apparently! Following the original pedestrian scheme of silver and black and its wacky, wild bright orange cousin , Verizon and LG are apparently prepping a dark green VX9900 enV that looks fit to take on a textual sortie or two. No word on a release date yet, but frankly, we're not too worked up about it. Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • What is the LG VX10000?

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Verizon Wireless , 1xRTT , EV-DO , CDMA We're going to go ahead and venture that this VX10000 (yes, as in ten thousand) from LG that just hit the FCC is bound for Verizon, thanks to the "VX" prefix. That's about all we can gather, though. Pay no mind to the shape of the phone in the diagram here -- it's a generic picture that LG uses to identify the ID label for every single one of its phones that it submits with the FCC. If anything, we suppose it could be a successor to the VX9900 ; LG ran plumb out of numbers and was forced into five-digit territory. Thoughts? • Sprint slips some LG LX260 details

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Sprint-Nextel , 1xRTT , CDMA So the good news is that this upcoming LG LX260 for Sprint looks pretty trick from the microscopic image we've been able to grab -- nifty blue and black color scheme, QWERTY slide -- pretty much what we were expecting from the rendering floating around a while back. That's all well and good. What isn't good, though, is that Sprint's developer site also reveals the the device won't have anything more than 1xRTT to push bits and bytes around. Given the nifty form factor, EV-DO seems like a foregone conclusion to us, but we suppose that'll go a long way toward keeping pricing in the double digits on contract. Other juicy tidbits confirmed here include a 220 x 176 display, 64MB of RAM, 64MB of ROM with microSD expansion, and a 1.3 megapixel cam. Fourth quarter, here we come! • Sprint's roadmap for remainder of '07 outed, too?

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , LG , Motorola , Palm , Pantech , RIM , Samsung , Sanyo , UTStarcom , Palm OS , Windows Mobile , 1xRTT , EV-DO , CDMA Following a thorough run-through of Verizon's plans for the rest of the year, this broader peep into Sprint's near future than we've seen before -- if real, anyway -- means that we now pretty much know everything there is to know about the wide world of CDMA here in the States for the next few months. It's a warm, fuzzy feeling, ain't it? Anyway, let's have a look: Palm is said to come swinging in with two, the 500 on the low end with a $99 price point on October 14 and an 800w ("w" stands for Windows Mobile 6 here, friends) up top -- though the latter doesn't grace shelves until Q1 of '08. Novatel gets down with an updated version of the U720 dubbed U727 (what else?) come September 30. Sanyo meanwhile should add the S1 candybar to replace the SCP-4930 on October 14, but November 4 is allegedly when things really start to heat up. That day should bring the LG LX260 , RIM BlackBerry Pearl 2 , HTC Vogue , and the UTStarcom PX-00, a low-cost Rev A data card to replace the PX-500 . The Motorola Q9c -- possibly with GSM international roaming -- should drop by a little later in November, while a dual-mode CDMA / GSM rendition of the Samsung BlackJack replaces the IP-830w early next year. Again, this is all unconfirmed, but it seems plausible enough. We'll throw up any corroborating info as we get it. [Via Slashphone ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • Sprint event showcases CDMA Touch, LG Rumor, and more

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , LG , Palm , RIM , Samsung , Sanyo , Sprint-Nextel , Verizon Wireless , Palm OS , Windows Mobile , 1xRTT , EV-DO , CDMA If you've been patiently awaiting details about, well, a whole slew of handsets, chances are that a recent Sprint event held the answers to a-many of those very questions. First up was the Palm Centro (also coined Gandolf and Treo 800 ), which you've already seen plenty of earlier today . Moving on, the Sprint Touch (read: CDMA ) was said to be rockin' a potent 400MHz CPU, and it also touted EV-DO, 128MB of RAM, a two-megapixel camera, built-in GPS "to be activated in a Rev A upgrade," and a likely launch date in November. Furthermore, an EV-DO BlackBerry Pearl was on display along with a "petite candybar" from Sanyo, the sliding LG Rumor, and the Sprint Airave home cell site (once known as the Samsung Ubicell ). We know you're craving the dirt on all of the aforementioned gizmos, so be sure and hit the read link for the full skinny. Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • LG says "Aloha" to Virgin Mobile

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Virgin Mobile , 1xRTT , MVNOs , CDMA Pardon the pun -- it can't be helped. Virgin Mobile is known for keeping its handsets on the lower end, owing largely to the fact that the MVNO does the lion's share of its business with prepaid accounts (read: contract-free phones). In fact, two of its existing clamshells lack an external display -- a nearly standard feature on all but the most inexpensive flips -- so it comes as no surprise that the newly-introduced LG Aloha is in the same vein. Features include a color display, speakerphone, and support for up to 199 contacts, but that's about it -- if you need a camera or Bluetooth, look elsewhere. Grab it starting in September for $34.99. • Verizon's roadmap for remainder of '07 gets liberated

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , LG , Motorola , Others , Palm , Samsung , UTStarcom , Verizon Wireless , Palm OS , Windows Mobile , 1xRTT , EV-DO , CDMA phoneArena scored a wealth -- nay, a veritable cornucopia of information detailing Verizon's releases for the rest of 2007, and we can say with some confidence that there's something in here for everyone. Starting with smartphones, SMT5800 , XV6800 , Samsung i760 , and Motorola Q9m should hit in October, October, September, and August (yay, this month!) respectively. A second, business oriented variant of the Q9, dubbed the Q9c, will follow on in the fourth quarter. If Windows Mobile ain't your cup of tea, have a gander at the Palm Treo 755p and RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8130 (pictured), both coming in November. There isn't much to say about the 755p that hasn't already been said, but the 8130 is indeed a Pearl of the "new" variety , upping the cam to 2 megapixels while adding A2DP and a 3.5mm jack. Turning to dumbphones, Verizon's got the full spread from low to high end. The Samsung U410, self-branded CDM-8630 and LG VX8350 all appear to be pretty simple flips coming some time this half of the year. The Motorola Z6c looks to be a MediaFLO-less version of the Z6tv slider; the former drops in November while the latter is nebulously scheduled for the second half. Finally, the fancy U700 and U900 flips from Samsung offer 2 and 3 megapixel cams, respectively, and will both be available before the year's out. Whew! • Up close and personal with the LG VX8550

Filed under: Handsets , Features , LG , Verizon Wireless , 1xRTT , EV-DO , CDMA Now that the successor to LG's Chocolate line has been available to Verizon Wireless customers, we thought it would only be fitting to put the latest addition through the paces and see if the VX8550 is a worthy successor. From a quick glimpse, both the LG VX8500 and the VX8550 both share the slide up form factor both sporting a hidden keypad. LG has moved the camera from the back of the phone on the VX8500 to the back of the slide on the VX8550. This allows for safe storage of the camera when not being used while also decreasing the amount of fingerprints, smudges, and scratches on the lens. There have also been improvements in the keypad including dedicated Send / End keys and a camera button. Like its predecessor, the keys are still mashed together making text messaging somewhat difficult for those with moderately sized fingers. Our sausage-shaped pointers often misspelled words with the cramped styling. Next, the center navigation button has been replaced with an iPod - like click wheel that rotates both forward and reverse along with doubling as a 5-way navigation. We noticed very few accidental key presses while the phone was up to our face. This could be the single greatest improvement on the VX8550 which makes navigation and phone use a breeze. The slide mechanism seems as strong as the previous model with solid open and close motions. LG seems to have one of the best slide mechanisms on a mobile phone ( Samsung , you're a close second). Overall, the VX8550 has a better feeling than it's predecessor but leaves something to be desired for the power user. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • LG LX160 gets real for Sprint

Filed under: Handsets , LG , Sprint-Nextel , 1xRTT , CDMA Sprint has launched the low-end (think "free") LX160 this week, offering up what appears a decent flip for those who don't need EV-DO or a camera. Features include Vision access (Sprint's way of saying 1xRTT), Bluetooth, tethering capability, voice memos, and speakerphone. Grab it now for nary a penny after activation -- $169.99 without.
