ITV is due to launch a mobile social network around one of its most popular shows, The X-Factor. The broadcaster will use a platform from Australian mobile community provider Loop Mobile, which on Friday completed an IPO ahead of a June 26 market debut, we reported here . This should be interesting; judged and co-produced by American Idol panelist Simon Cowell, The X-Factor is one of the UK's biggest shows and already has strong mobile buy-in - viewers vote on contestants by SMS and, until recently , the show had a three-year sponsorship from Nokia. A successful social net built around the show could integrate voting, message boards, music downloads, even YouTube-style lip-synching. But ITV is embarking on mobile social nets for more than just X-Factor. Upon the IPO, Loop CEO Martin Hoffman said the company will also be providing its services to other ITV programs, starting August ( iTWire ). Looped has previously produced a mobile community for Big Brother Down Under.
