  • Rogers Cuts HTC Dream and HTC Magic to $99.99 on Contract

Rogers has done a little price-chopping on the HTC Dream and Magic… much sooner than I ever could have guessed. The Rogers HTC Dream and HTC Magic can now be picked up for only $99.99 on a 3-year contract, a drop of $50 from the original $149.99 price tag. Is this a sign of weak sales [...]
  • Best Buy Mobile Reveals TELUS HTC Snap and Touch Pro2 as ‘Coming Soon’

One more tidbit of Canadian mobile news before I take a breather over here. Best Buy Mobile has confirmed that the TELUS (NYSE: TU) HTC Snap and HTC Touch Pro2 are ‘coming soon’. Rumored pricing to purchase the HTC Snap outright is sitting at $449.99, while the Touch Pro2 is coming in at $549.99. No launch [...]
  • HTC Hero with AT&T 3G bands is at the FCC!

The super sexy HTC Hero is at the FCC’s labs. We’re talking about the version of the device that can sing along AT&T (NYSE: T)’s and Canada’s Rogers (NYSE: RCI) Wireless 3G networks. The question is will AT&T pick it up? They have a good relationship with Apple (NSDQ: AAPL), which might be pissed to [...]
  • Rogers Magic and Dream now yours for $99.99

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , Rogers Wireless , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS , Android If you're ready, willing, and able to sign up for a new three-year agreement on Rogers, HTC's two inaugural Android sets just got a good deal cheaper for you. Originally priced at $199.99 on contract , both phones are now down to $99.99, which by our very rough calculations is about half off -- a stellar deal, we think, considering you're getting 7.2Mbps HSDPA, capacitive touch, 3.2 megapixel autofocus cameras with video capture, and HTC-customized Android ROMs. Maybe Rogers is discounting so quickly because they figure the phones aren't quite as appealing in light of the recent Hero announcement -- or, more intriguingly, maybe they're prepping for an actual Hero launch of their own now that we know there's an 850 / 1900 3G version in the mix . • HTC's TouchFLO 3D 2.5 changes described in detail

Filed under: Software , HTC , Windows Mobile HTC's a bit of a sieve when it comes to leaking new builds of really awesome things , and the trend continues with TouchFLO 3D 2.5 seemingly out in the wild and running on some Touch HDs . Rumor has it this is the build that'll premiere on the company's upcoming Firestone superphone, bringing some of its Sense concepts to the WinMo platform -- most notably including widget support. You've got new assignable shortcuts on the home screen, a revamped messaging experience (presumably to better fit in with HTC's contact-centric mantra), and a new Footprints screen. That's all well and good that Firestone buyers will likely see this, but here's the million-dollar question: what current devices will get official upgrades, if any? • HTC Hero approved by FCC, AT&T 3G bands included

Last week, when HTC announced its brand new Hero Android smartphone, the Taiwanese company said nothing about a North American release. However, it’s highly probable that the Hero will be launched both in the US and in Canada. For this to happen, the smartphone first needs the FCC’s approval – and it just got it, with [...]
  • T-Mobile Touch Pro 2 rumored to be delayed

Bad news for you T-Mobile fans waiting patiently for the HTC Touch Pro 2 . TmoNews is citing an anonymous source in saying that release has been moved from July 22 to Aug. 12. Hey, you've waited this long. What's a couple more weeks? TMN is still going with the July 8 launch date for the Dash 3G , as well as the $170 price point (ouch!) with a two-year contract. That said, do remember that no actual release date has been stated by T-Mobile for either phone, so anything's still possible. Hang in there, folks.
  • Vodafone New Zealand Pulls HTC Magic From Shelves

Now this is an odd one. Vodafone (NYSE: VOD) New Zealand has reportedly pulled the HTC Magic from their website. Calls have been put in to Vodafone in the region, and the response was somewhat ominous: the Magic can be purchased for $1,099 NZD, but no more are in stock and it isn’t clear when [...]
  • HTC Hero hits FCC with US 3G

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS , Android No mention was made of a Hero with 3G that'd work on Rogers or AT&T back at its announcement a few days ago, but HTC has been getting awfully good at making phones that work properly around these parts -- so we can't say we're entirely surprised to see a Hero approved for WCDMA on Bands II and V gracing the FCC today. For the record, Bands II and V are 1900 and 850MHz, respectively, which is exactly the combo AT&T subscribers would need to flip the switch on high-speed data. We're not sure if this negates rumors that the Hero would be coming to Sprint, but if we can just get this version released and in our hands, you know... maybe our minds would be operating with a little more clarity. • Zer01 goes nationwide with unlimited voice, data service

After a few months of delay, MVNE Zer01 Mobile announced the nationwide launch of its unlimited, prepaid, voice and data service that the company is selling to distributors. The company said its low-cost offering can support unlimited service via mobile VoIP technology running over AT&T Mobility's network. "Many years of research and testing have culminated in the public launch this week of the new, truly unlimited voice, data and Web mobile wireless service from Zer01 Mobile. Thanks to the ingenuity of the Zer01 Mobile engineering team, our new Veritable Mobile Convergence technology allows each smartphone user to make voice calls or transmit data through a VoIP system," explained Ben Piilani, CEO of Zer01, in a release. The company's offering is not intended for end users. Instead, Zer01 is selling the service as a mobile virtual network enabler, meaning that the company developed the relationship with AT&T and will supply handsets and other services, but won't actively sell the service to phone shoppers. That task falls to the company's distributors, which include Buzzirk Mobile and others, according to a Zer01 spokesman. A cursory check of Buzzirk Mobile's website indeed showed an offer for unlimited voice and data service for $79.95 per month, though the site appeared to be geared more toward signing up distributors for the service than actual customers. Nonetheless, a Zer01 spokesman said the company is moving forward with its plans and expects to add additional distributors in the near future. The company said its system runs on Windows Mobile phones, and it will offer devices from HTC and Pharos. He said Zer01's service also includes low-cost international calling. Zer01 unveiled its plans in March, and at the time said it would launch in April with a service for $69.95 per month. However, the company has since backed off offering that specific price, apparently to provide more flexible pricing options to distributors.
