  • Unlock your AT&T Tilt 8925 to work on any GSM network - Turn your AT&T Tilt into an HTC Kaiser TyTn II

While HTC Kaiser TyTn II owners are enjoying the ability to surf any GSM network in the world, AT&T customers with a brand-new AT&T Tilt 8925 are stuck with the AT&T-flavored GSM network. Nevermind that HTC has been sued over the lack of a graphics hardware driver , a problem which also afflicts the HTC Kaiser TyTn II. HTC sells their mobile phones unlocked out of the box, but AT&T locked the GSM radio in their version of the HTC Kaiser - until now. XDA-Developer forums user, jockyw2001, has posted instructions on how to fully unlock ( SIM unlock ) your AT&T Tilt 8925 to work on any GSM network in your country. And, if you need to travel abroad and your AT&T Tilt doesn’t like to play nice on foreign networks, jockyw2001 has posted instructions to make that happen as well ( SuperCID ). Head on over to XDA-Developer forums to get your hands on the AT&T Tilt unlock and SuperCID solutions . • IntoMobile's 3G vs EDGE webpage load-time shootout - just how slow is the iPhone?

Right, we all know just how much faster 3G data speeds are in comparison to EDGE speeds. Theoretical speeds are one thing, straight-up throughput numbers are impressive, but what about the most important aspect of any device’s wireless data connection - actual web-browsing performance? Unless you’re one of the harder-core mobile warriors that uses their mobile phone as a wireless modem (tethered to a laptop), chances are your cellphone’s data connection is predominantly used to serve up webpages on your handset’s display. So, just how much faster does a 3G data connection allow you to surf the web? Or, conversely, just how much does the iPhone’s EDGE-only data connection slow down the web-surfing experience? (Hint: not that slow) Well, we set to find out exactly what kind of load-times you can expect in real-world situations and with real-world devices. For this test we used an AT&T Tilt 8925 ( HTC Kaiser TyTn II ) on AT&T’s 3G network, and squared it off against an Apple iPhone on AT&T’s EDGE network. Webpage load-times were the focus of this test, and load-times were rounded down to the nearest second. Load-times were recorded from the moment the page started to load until the status-bar indicated that the page was finished loading (until the progress indicator-bar disappeared). Hit the link for the video. Hypothesis : Webpage load-times are bottlenecked by the device’s processing power and page-rendering technology. This should result in similar load-times between the iPhone and the Tilt. Results : What we found was completely expected. There’s more at play then just throughput. The iPhone’s web-kit based Safari browser allowed it to load pages almost as fast as the AT&T Tilt. We used the Pocket Internet Explorer that comes pre-installed on the Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional-based AT&T Tilt - and it proved to be the device’s downfall. Both devices had similar processor speeds, so...
  • Video: AT&T Tilt unboxing video

The “holy grail” of smartphones is here and the video previews are starting to hit the interwebs. Check out this video of the US-spec HTC Kaiser TyTn II - the AT&T Tilt - getting unboxed. It looks a bit bigger in the hand than we expected, but we’re still drooling. ---Related Articles at IntoMobile:AT&T finally sets launch date for AT&T Tilt (HTC Kaiser TyTn II) - holy grail of smartphones launches tomorrow!Live pics: AT&T Tilt spotted in the wild - Verizon VX6800 and Samsung SCH-i760Video: Nokia 8600 Luna unboxingAT&T Tilt, Q9 Global to launch September 25?AT&T Tilt slated for launch on September 3rd
  • First pics of the AT&T branded HTC Kaiser TyTn II - the AT&T Tilt is so close we can taste it

The HTC Kaiser (aka TyTn II, P4550, AT&T 8925 Tilt) is the “ holy grail ” of smartphone-ing. It packs the “perfect” feature set that has eluded mobile fanatics for some time now - and the AT&T subsidized version of the Kaiser is almost here. The European HTC Kaiser TyTn II has already launched, so we already know that the Kaiser’s blazing 400Mhz CPU, 2.8-inch touchscreen, 3 megapixel autofocus camera, GPS, WiFi, 3G (HSDPA), gobs of RAM/ROM, and full QWERTY keyboard - all powered by Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional - is the “holy of holies” that we’ve been searching for. AT&T should be dropping their own version of this baddest-ass smartphone sometime soon - as the AT&T 8925 Tilt (a fitting name, given the Kaiser’s cool, tilting slider-display). We still don’t have a hard launch date, but if online retailer Negri Electronics is on the money, we could see AT&T drop the “Tilt” on us come September 30. Negri is taking pre-orders on the AT&T 8925 and 8900 (without camera) and claims that they’ll have these badboys in stock by the end of the month. They’ve even posted pics of what seems to be an AT&T-branded Kaiser. We’ll keep you updated on the latest AT&T 8925 Tilt developments as we hear of them. It would be a shame if our Canadian friends got their hands on a Rogers Wireless-branded HTC Kaiser before us Yankees. The AT&T Tilt is so close we can taste it - and it tastes just like we expected. Slightly QWERTY-sweet with a kick of 3G-spice. Now we just need some pics of a T-Mobile branded HTC Kaiser - that would be nice. • Possible launch details for AT&T Tilt, Duo, Inferno

Engadget Mobile seems to have gotten the downlow on AT&T’s pricing schedule for their October lineup. The high-anticipated HTC Kaiser TyTN II, otherwise known as the AT&T Tilt 8925 looks to be hitting AT&T for $299 or $374 on a one-year and two-year contract, respectively. The Pantech Duo will be going for the right-old price of $199 on a two-year service agreement - which is a bit more than what Amazon is already offering for the dual-sliding Pantech C810 Duo. And, rounding out the smartphone offerings from AT&T, the Motorola Q9h will be hitting US airwaves in October at a $299 price point (with 2-year contract, of course). Nokia will also be getting in on AT&T’s October launch goodness with their Nokia 6555 Inferno 3G clamshell - which will go for $49.99 with new contract. Keep an eye out for AT&T and their October lineup. We can’t wait to get the Motorola Q9h and AT&T Tilt 8925 in our hands. Those are going to be some sexy smartphones, but we like our smartphones like our women - with a little meat and substance on them bones. The AT&T Tilt 8925 is the smartphone that’s making all of us squirm in our seats for a chance to take it for a spin. • AT&T Tilt slated for launch on September 3rd

We now have more solid launch details for the recently renamed AT&T Tilt . CrunchGear reports that the AT&T Tilt, formerly known as the HTC Kaiser /TyTn II/ P4550 and the AT&T 8925 , will be getting it’s feet wet on the US carrier’s network on September 3. Signing on for 2-years of AT&T servitude will net you the “Holy Grail” of mobile phones for just $499. With the powerful CPU, full QWERTY-keyboard, GPS, 3G, and WiFi, the AT&T Tilt/HTC Kaiser is going to be the baddest kid on the WM6-block. We can’t wait to get our hands on this thing, it’s just going to hurt our wallets. Looks like we’re eating noodles for the next few weeks. We’ll keep you updated, stay tuned! • HTC Kaiser almost here - passes FCC muster!

It’s almost here! How do we know? Well, aside from the rumors that AT&T may be picking up the HTC Kaiser as the AT&T 8925, we just got word that the Kaiser has just passed muster with the FCC overlords. The FCC filing shows three variants KAIS100, KAIS110, and the KAIS120 - we’re thinking one of them might be headed to AT&T (with or without that forward facing camera is still unknown). We can’t tell you much more than that - the confidentiality agreement is set to expire on September 8 (interesting point in and of itself). The HTC Kaiser’s passing of FCC testing bodes well for rumors indicating a possible August release , but is contradicted by the confidentiality agreements expiry date. So, all we know for now is that the HTC Kaiser is imminent. When and on what carrier are still an unknown. We’ll keep you updated, stay tuned! • AT&T may be prepping HTC Kaiser for August release as the AT&T 8925

Ahh, the HTC Kaiser. We’ve been waiting for this incredible Windows Mobile smartphone for so long now, it’s amazing to think that it’s just around the proverbial corner. With a spec sheet that boasts 3G, QWERTY keyboard (with that super-trick spring-loaded, flip-up sliding screen), WiFi, GPS (!), and Windows Mobile, the Kaiser is as good as Widows Mobile gets. The HTC Kaiser is the likely successor to AT&T’s 8525 (HTC TyTn /Hermes), and rumored to be getting branded as the AT&T 8925. With T-mobile Germany already getting its hands on the Kaiser as the MDA Vario III, we gotta believe that it’s headed for Yankee shores soon. We have reason to believe that the iPhone carrier may release the AT&T 8925 sometime in August . As usual, we’ll keep grinding away at the rumor mill. Stay tuned for more info!
