  • Alltel releases the HTC Touch Pro

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , Alltel , Windows Mobile , EV-DO , CDMA Alright T-Mobile, seriously, how can you charge $299.99 for a Wing on contract with a straight face (do carriers have faces?) while every single one of your competitors is rocking a device that's essentially two generations fresher for the same price? Alltel becomes the latest to add HTC's quintessential WinMo QWERTY smartphone to its stable, charging $279.99 for the privilege of adding a Touch Pro to your account on contract after $100 rebate. From the looks of things, it's basically Sprint's version with a tweaked version of the TouchFLO 3D UI that's either prettier or uglier than the stock build, depending on your point of view. Let's be honest, though: doesn't everything look good in VGA resolution? [Thanks, theups] Alltel releases the HTC Touch Pro originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Thu, 20 Nov 2008 09:02:00 EST. • Sprint launches Touch Pro at "select national retailers" this week

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , Sprint , Windows Mobile , EV-DO , CDMA Locked in a footrace with AT&T's Fuze to become the first US national carrier to launch a variant of the HTC Touch Pro , Sprint has announced that folks can start ordering the QWERTY smartphone this week from "select national retailers," making good on a promise made at CTIA last month . That's not quite as cool as a full-scale launch, but at least we'll start to get 'em in the wild in the next few days -- meanwhile, a more full-scale, fanfare-filled launch is planned for November 2 when the Touch Pro is made available online, via phone, and in all Sprint stores. • Sprint's Touch Diamond, now available

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , Sprint , Windows Mobile , EV-DO , CDMA Like they said they would , Sprint just spun the HTC Touch Diamond out for retail. $250 (after $200 instant savings, $100 mail-in rebate, and 2-year contract) takes home this WinMo 6.1 candybar with HTC's TouchFLO 3D salve layered atop a 2.8-inch touch-screen display, 4GB of memory, WiFi, 3.2 megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth, GPS, and EV-DO Rev. A. The tough decision is buy now, wait for Sprint's Touch Pro launching on October 19th , or hold-out for Best Buy to get its act together and put the $700 unlocked 3G Touch Diamond out onto store shelves. • Sprint's HTC Touch Diamond: September 14 for $249.99. Honest.

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , Sprint , Windows Mobile , EV-DO , CDMA Now that Uncle Walt has gone and opened the floodgates , details are starting to pour in on Sprint's imminent release of the Touch Diamond , a device that should actually manage to get the carrier damn close to the top of the Windows Mobile pile (for a short while, anyway). PC Magazine is now reporting that it'll be available on September 14 for $249.99 on a two-year contract after $100 rebate, a sum that would put it squarely in the "average" category for on-contract smartphone pricing in these parts. Of course, with the Touch Pro allegedly just around the corner, it remains to be seen just how much love this thing is going to get; nothing like a good, old-fashioned QWERTY-versus-touchscreen fight, is there? • Bell first out of the gate with CDMA Touch Dual

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , Bell Mobility , Windows Mobile , EV-DO , CDMA That CDMA version of HTC's Touch Dual that some FCC lab got to fiddle around with a while back is now packaged up all nice and pretty for cash-flush consumers to enjoy. It's not Verizon, Sprint, or Alltel that's celebrating the release, though -- for this particular release, you've gotta look north just a little bit to Bell Mobility. The phone features Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, GPS, a 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, and a $399.95 CAD off-contact price that drops all the way down to $99.95 if you're willing to sign your life away for three years. Our knee-jerk reaction is, "we'll just hold out for the Diamond on Telus ," but if you insist on a slider with this kind of form factor, it's the only way to fly. • Telus announces HTC Touch Diamond for a summer release

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , Telus Mobility , Windows Mobile , EV-DO , CDMA Though the Sprint version is the most well-scooped CDMA variant thus far, Telus is actually becoming the first carrier 'round these parts to announce the Touch Diamond imbued with a little EV-DO for your data-consumption pleasure. The phone will run $149.99 CAD (which is just about a wash in US dollars) on a three-year contract, accompanied by data plans ranging from $15 for email and instant messaging to $30 for email, IM, and web browsing. Sprint, Verizon, we anxiously await your press releases. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Verizon XV6900 available April 16

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , Verizon Wireless , Windows Mobile , EV-DO , CDMA We've just received word that the blindingly white XV6900 , Verizon's rendition of the HTC Touch theme, will be available online on April 16 with in-store stock following on come April 30. That's a considerably healthier turnaround time from first rumor to availability than the XV6800 , we've got to say -- and hopefully, it's a trend Verizon (and all carriers, for that matter) will be able to stick to. Contract-signers will be able to get their TouchFLO on for a nominal fee of $349.99 after $50 rebate. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • Verizon surprises no one with XV6900, Motorola Q9c, and LG enV(2)

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , LG , Motorola , Verizon Wireless , Windows Mobile , EV-DO , CDMA Well, here are three that we didn't see coming or anything -- Verizon has officially announced the Motorola Q9c, LG enV(2), and HTC-sourced XV6900 today, all for April availability. The Moto Q9c is a more business-savvy version of the consumer-focused Q9m that was launched on Verizon late last year, with the carrier playing up the new model's VZ Navigator support, Windows Mobile 6 Standard load (yippee?), and -- unfortunately for those whose companies distrust photography -- a 1.3 megapixel camera. This one will launch for $249.99 after rebate on a two-year plan. Next up we have the enV(2) -- a phone we mistakenly identified previously as the enV2 because we just never could've seen those bonus parenthesis coming -- which succeeds the wildly popular enV and injects a fresh dose of industrial design. Features include a 2 megapixel cam, 2.4 inch internal display accompanied by a smaller screen up front that's just big enough for doing calling duty, microSD slot, and the flip-up QWERTY keyboard the enV series is famous for. It'll run $129.99 after rebate on contract when it launches next month. Finally, the XV6900 brings Verizon in line with Sprint's Touch , though in a far paler shade. It features the full host of Windows Mobile 6 Professional goodies alongside a 2 megapixel camera, microSD slot, 256MB of ROM, 128MB of RAM, Bluetooth, and HTC's TouchFLO interface. Like the others, it's slated for April availability and will run $349.99 on contract after $50 rebate. • Verizon finally announces SMT5800 smartphone

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , EV-DO , CDMA After months, months, and yet more months of speculation, rumor, and leaked press shots , Verizon has gotten official with its own version of the HTC Libra, the SMT5800. The Windows Mobile 6 Smartphone-based handset is essentially a Vox gutted for CDMA / EV-DO airwaves, featuring a slide-out QWERTY keypad along with a standard numeric keypad up front to fool all your inquisitive peers into thinking it's nothing more than a candybar. The spec sheet reveals Bluetooth 2.0, a 2 megapixel camera, a microSD slot for packing up to 8GB, and a 2.4 inch QVGA display. Find it starting January 21 for $299.99 after rebate on a two year contract -- $199 if you're bold enough to sign up for a qualifying data plan at the same time. • Verizon lays out upcoming smartphone lineup; Samsung i760 comes first

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , Palm , Samsung , Palm OS , Windows Mobile , EV-DO , CDMA No surprises in the mix here , but we're delighted to see that Verizon is finally getting official with four smart devices that have been rumored to be in its pipeline for ages. Of the four, only the i760 from Samsung's been priced and slated for release -- October 19 online, November 2 in stores for $350 on contract after rebates -- featuring Windows Mobile 6 Professional, QWERTY slide-out and offset numeric keypads, and a 1.3 megapixel camera. The XV6800 succeeds the tired XV6700, going up against Sprint's Mogul by offering the HTC Titan reference design in a custom Verizon skin; it shows up with a 2 megapixel cam, WiFi, and a full QWERTY keyboard. Already released on several CDMA carriers, the HTC Libra sees the light of day on Verizon as the SMT5800 bearing Windows Mobile 6 Standard and a 2 megapixel cam (we loved the Libra's GSM cousin , and we're guessing this one's great too). Finally, make some noise, Palm OS fans -- it's okay, don't be shy! Verizon finally gets down with the Treo 755p, a phone that could ultimately serve as the platform's swan song in the classic Treo form factor. As we mentioned, only the i760 has been priced and dated at this point, but we'll keep ya in the loop just as soon as we know more. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
  • Sprint gets official with HTC Touch: November 4 for $249.99

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , Sprint , Windows Mobile , EV-DO , CDMA Is it safe yet to declare that carriers are looking at finger-friendly touchscreens as The Next Big Thing in wireless? Sprint today has officially announced its HTC Touch, a device codenamed "Vogue" that brings all of the original's unique personality to the world of CDMA (and, thankfully, EV-DO). Besides the touted support for 3G data, features include a 2 megapixel cam, microSD slot with support for up to 4GB of expansion, Windows Mobile 6 Professional with HTC's TouchFLO interface, and comprehensive support for Sprint's media features including Sprint TV and the Sprint Music Store, all packed into a shell measuring 4 x 2.4 x 0.6 inches and weighing in at 4 ounces (trust us, it looks and feels pretty flippin' small). Interested parties don't have terribly long to wait, either -- look for it to start showing up in retail channels November 4 for a penny under $250 on contract with rebates. • Alltel launches HTC PPC6800

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , Alltel , Windows Mobile , 1xRTT , EV-DO , CDMA Gee, Verizon, go ahead and take your time there, will ya? Alltel follows up Sprint to become the second network in the US to launch HTC's next-gen CDMA Windows Mobile 6 Professional handset (Alltel's site claims it's Windows Mobile 5, but we're not believing that -- check the screen shots), offering WiFi, stereo Bluetooth, 2 megapixel cam, and just about all the EV-DO you can handle as the HTC PPC6800 . Grab it for $549 off contract, or $249 after two-year agreement and a $100 snail mail rebate. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in] Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
