  • iPhone 3G vs T-Mobile G1 - 3G speed test

The title says it all. CNET has posted a 3G data speed test that pits the iPhone 3G against its newcomer rival, the T-Mobile G1. Both handsets run different web browsers and work with different carrier networks (iPhone 3G on AT&T and the T-Mobile G1 on, well, T-Mobile), so there are some variables that just [...]
  • Microsoft says Silverlight on iPhone unlikely, G1 more likely

Filed under: Multimedia , Software , OS X , Android We all know it'll be a frigid day in Hades before Apple lets Silverlight into the iPhone, but for obvious reasons , things may pan out differently for the G1 . According to Microsoft's Scott Guthrie, the outfit is still very interested in getting its Flash competitor onto Apple's darling, but as he so rightly points out , "at the end of the day, Apple ultimately controls what software runs on the iPhone." Speaking about Android, he noted that the "Google phone [you mean G1, Scott?] is slightly different," continuing on to say that it's "more of an open platform, [and] that is something we're going to continue to look at." In other words, don't get your hopes up too high that Silverlight will be making its Android debut in the very near future, but you can probably bet Microsoft will have an easier time dealing with Google than with Apple. • Android Phone to cost $199 on T-Mobile?

WSJ, or the Wall Street Journal for those living in the 1998s, have sent out a wave of speculations today after publishing a report, according to which Google’s first Android Phone aka the HTC Dream will cost $199 on USA’s T-Mobile and will take the iPhone head on with its price tag. The phone will feature [...]
  • Android delayed to Q4 2008 and later

It wasn't too long ago that Google announced their OHA (Open Handset Alliance) and the Linux-based Android platform. Once Android demonstrations started popping up all over the blogosphere, we couldn't wait to get our hands on an Android-powered device. Unfortunately, we're going to have to wait longer still. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Google's [...]
  • Google: Android will outsell iPhone, we still love ya Steve

Filed under: Handsets , HTC , LG , Motorola , Samsung , Apple Watching Google tiptoe around its relationship with Apple as it rolls out Android is one of the most enjoyable aspects of watching the industry these days. This is perfectly illustrated in the words of Rich Miner, group manager for Google's mobile platforms, who said, "there's a much larger potential market on Android than for the iPhone." A truthful statement in all likelihood assuming that the OS is robust upon its global release later this year and available on handsets from HTC, Samsung, Motorola, and LG as expected. Miner then took a few shots at the iPhone SDK saying, "There are things I saw people doing with the first version of the Android SDK that it seems like you can't do with the iPhone at least at the moment." He then noted that the SDK had been downloaded 750,000 time (compared to Apple's 100k in 4 days) as of February. Naturally, he then applied a thick, brown coat of public relations salve saying, "[If I were a developer] I'd certainly be looking at the iPhone, and if you believe there will be lots of Android phones out there, as we do, I'd be developing for both platforms."
