    Filed under: Handsets , RIM , ATT , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA We already knew RIM's BlackBerry Bold would sell for a stiff $299.99 on contract with AT&T, but if you're one of the many AT&T users who'd rather not sign a new agreement (or renew your current one), you've probably been patiently waiting to hear an unsubsidized price. Here is it, but we're warning you, you might want to sit down. The contract-free Bold is listed at $679.99 at Best Buy, and fittingly enough, the product page offers a convenient link for seeking financing. At any rate, it also tells us that pre-orders will typically ship out within one to two weeks, though we'd be hesitant to bet the farm on that. After waiting for like, ever , for this handset to finally hit shelves, are you still so anxious to drop nearly seven bills to claim one as your own?   • iPhone 3G, BlackBerry Storm and Bold compared on video: awkward...

Oh, and toss in that iPhone 3G -- which played a huge role in helping Apple sell more phones than RIM last quarter -- and you've got yourself a bona fide mess.   • It's official: BlackBerry Bold hits AT&T on November 4 for $299.99

The news comes courtesy of the company's earnings call -- not the most obvious place to slip in news this big -- but at least it's coming straight from the horse's mouth. So far as we can tell by the photo above and the one after the break, this here is a real deal AT&T BlackBerry Bold -- the same one you've been waiting months upon months ( upon months ) for. The current auction price is pretty steep, but if you've got a great feeling about buying a high-end handset that's not yet available to the public from someone with a feedback rating of 2, have at it.   • RIM's BlackBerry Bold (probably) hitting AT&T on October 27th

    Filed under: Handsets , RIM , ATT , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA RIM's BlackBerry Bold wasn't technically supposed to have launched already -- that's the magic in being all vague about a release date , we guess -- but we can safely say we're absolutely relieved to finally have something out in the open here. Even if it's not carved in stone, per se. An internal AT&T e-mail discovered today notes that the "latest ETA" for the release of the Bold is October 27th (with a price TBD), though we'd feel a lot better about that if it said "definitive release date."   • BlackBerry Bold now available -- in Chile

    Filed under: Handsets , RIM , movistar , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Movistar's Chilean outpost has now become -- somewhat surprisingly, may we add -- the very first carrier in the world to launch the BlackBerry Bold and put it into subscribers' hands. The carrier's making sure everyone knows what a coup they've managed to pull off, too, proudly proclaiming "FIRST ONES IN THE WORLD" with a red banner draped across the Bold's image on Movistar's site. Pricing seems a little high at 299,990 Chilean pesos (about $588) on a two-year contract, but hey, you've gotta pay to play; just how badly do you want to be one of the first people on the face of the planet ( John Mayer notably excepted ) to put this thing to use?   • Vodafone expects BlackBerry Bold in August?

Let's not dwell on the past, though -- no use crying over spilled milk, our mommies always used to say. Insead, let's focus on exactly when Vodafone thinks it can launch the Bold now, which happens to be August -- and this time, the word comes from an official Voda website that was intended for public consumption, so they have more eyeballs on it and more liability if they miss the date. Thing is, the description of the phone lists the Sony Ericsson W980i , not the Bold, so maybe there's just a little smidge of buffoonery going on behind the scenes. Just as Sprint did with its fashionable Instinct , AT&T is launching a promotional site for the forthcoming BlackBerry in order to drum up interest and get you (re)informed. Straight from the carrier's mouth, we've got GPRS / EDGE / UMTS / HSDPA support, integrated WiFi / GPS, 480 x 320 resolution display, a side-loaded memory slot, 1GB of built-in storage, a 624MHz CPU, 128MB of Flash memory, Bluetooth 2.0 with handsfree support and up to 5-hours of GSM talk time (13 days in standby). You'll notice that the operator makes no mention of an exact release date, but we're crossing our fingers and sticking to that leaked July timeframe until we hear otherwise.   • RIM's BlackBerry Bold gets previewed

    Filed under: Handsets , RIM , ATT , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA RIM's hotly-anticipated BlackBerry Bold has only been received by a select few , but the fortunate folks over at Howard Chui managed to snag a pre-production unit and give it a good lookin' at. Aside from showering us with a plethora of snapshots from a variety of angles, we're also told that the plastic used "feels a little cheaper" than that on the 8800, outgoing sound quality "is terrific," incoming sound quality could use some work and reception seemed much improved from the 8800.
