  • BlackBerry Bold hits Rogers on August 21st, so get your thumbs worked-out

Filed under: Handsets , RIM , Rogers Wireless Well, it looks like that long, painful wait is finally over. According to all kinds of tipsters, the BlackBerry Bold touches down for the first time in North America (in its home country of Canada, obviously) come August 21st (that's this Thursday, in case you don't own a calendar, computer, or have any friends). That's right -- the Bold will land on Rogers (where else?) with a price tag set somewhere between the dark valley of $300 and $400, according to Research In Motion co-CEO Jim Balsillie. Reports say the phone will be available from other carriers by the end of the week, though we don't have any definitive rumblings that confirm such heavenly ideas. You'll know more when we do, of course. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • BlackBerry Bold now available -- in Chile

Filed under: Handsets , RIM , movistar , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Movistar's Chilean outpost has now become -- somewhat surprisingly, may we add -- the very first carrier in the world to launch the BlackBerry Bold and put it into subscribers' hands. The carrier's making sure everyone knows what a coup they've managed to pull off, too, proudly proclaiming "FIRST ONES IN THE WORLD" with a red banner draped across the Bold's image on Movistar's site. Pricing seems a little high at 299,990 Chilean pesos (about $588) on a two-year contract, but hey, you've gotta pay to play; just how badly do you want to be one of the first people on the face of the planet ( John Mayer notably excepted ) to put this thing to use? • BlackBerry Thunder first-ever live pics unearthed

Filed under: Handsets , RIM If you're a BlackBerry fan feeling the need for relief from the throngs of iPhone lovers, the cats at CrackBerry may have uncovered a solution to your problem. The RIM aficionados have gotten their hands on the first ever live pictures of the phone-maker's touchscreen device -- the Thunder -- and it's looking pretty darn sweet. Feast your eyes on the above photo (featuring the much-discussed "tactile" keyboard), and hit the read link for another look. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • BlackBerry Thunder touchscreen phone in live shot

Filed under: Handsets , RIM , Verizon Wireless Here's a little something that might put the brakes on some buyer's 3G iPhone dreams this week -- a real, live shot of the forthcoming BlackBerry touchscreen phone, the Thunder . There's not much info to glean from this image, save for the fact that it will be practically loaded with buttons (including send, end, back, menu, dual convenience keys, volume, lock, and play / pause) and will be headed to Verizon. If the UI is a spin-off of the one we've seen on the Bold , RIM could be striking gold here. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Blackberry Bold release dates, pricing leak out

Filed under: Handsets , RIM , ATT , Sprint , T-Mobile , Verizon Wireless Those of you dying to get your QWERTY on with RIM's hot new Blackberry Bold can start marking your calendars and stashing cash under the cushions -- release dates and pricing info have hit the tubes this morning. As expected, AT&T will get the Bold first in July for $300, while Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile customers will have to wait until September. Oddly, T-Mo subs will have to cough up an extra $50, which seems a little unfair. Of course, these aren't official dates and prices, so things are likely to change, but we'd say everything seems in the ballpark, wouldn't you? Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • BlackBerry Curve now available through Sprint

Filed under: Handsets , RIM , Sprint , EV-DO , CDMA Late's better than never -- usually, anyway -- and a rumored release date finally stuck long enough for the BlackBerry Curve 8330 to make an appearance on Sprint's online store. In fact, as "mid-May" goes, May 9 is actually on the early side of things if you want to get technical about it, so we guess some kudos are actually due here. Sprint's asking $179.99 on contract with rebates for the pleasure of indulging in its latest mobile productivity tool, which you'll ironically be using to respond to emails during meetings that you're supposed to be listening in on. Funny how the world works, isn't it? [Thanks to everyone who sent this in] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • First ever BlackBerry clamshell phone unmasked, dubbed the 'Kickstart'

Filed under: Handsets , RIM Ready to have your brain blown out through the top of your head? Look above -- you're staring at the heretofore unseen BlackBerry clamshell, the Kickstart. The Boy Genius snagged a handful of photos of the device (which apparently he's known about for "a while"), and has decided to share his good fortune with the rest of the world. The phone sports a Pearl-esque keyboard, typical trackball navigation, and apparently utilizes both an internal and external LCD screen. No word on specs, carriers, or a release date, but BGR is saying this puppy is due before the end of the year. You'll know more when we know more! Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • WiFi-less BlackBerry 8110 showing up in AT&T stores

Filed under: Handsets , RIM , ATT , GSM , EDGE If you're just too cool for the WiFi found in AT&T's BlackBerry Pearl 8120 , we might suggest this little number. That's right, the slightly less 802.11-inclined 8110 is now finding its way into corporate stores, offering the same physical package as its counterpart plus the added bonus of GPS navigation. It's available for $149.99 after contract and rebate -- that's $50 less than the 8120, mind you -- and comes in your choice of red or the understated "titanium." • Alltel scores the BlackBerry Curve 8330, too

Filed under: Handsets , RIM , Alltel , EV-DO , CDMA Not to be outdone by Verizon and Sprint (and pretty much everyone else with a CDMA network), Alltel's gone ahead and tacked the Curve 8330 onto its roadmap as well. Can you get it now? No, not quite, but it'll hit on May 1 in "titanium" for $229.99 after the full host of discounts and rebates has been applied on contract. Yeah, it sucks that you have to wait a few more days to pick it up, but you can feel free to place your pre-order now if you like over on Alltel's site. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • T-Mobile launches BlackBerry 8820 with WiFi

Filed under: Handsets , RIM , T-Mobile , GSM , EDGE Right on time , T-Mobile has added another piece to the smartphone side of the HotSpot@Home puzzle with the 8820, featuring both WiFi and GPS in a single package -- a somewhat rare combo from our friends at RIM, and a new, fresh answer to the 8800 and 8830 variants found on every other national carrier in the US (and, in the case of the 8800, on T-Mobile itself). The lack of a camera will be a detraction for some, but a boon for others given the device's all-business roots -- and naturally, no one's going to complain about the microSD expansion, myFaves support, or the ability to hop on 802.11g networks for a little VoIP action, T-Mobile style. As cool as the Curve ? No, but this one'll find it's own audience, no question about it. Look for the BlackBerry 8820 in stores starting today. • AT&T gets official with BlackBerry Pearl 8120

Filed under: Handsets , RIM , ATT , GSM , EDGE Suddenly, our Pearl 8100s are looking just a little long in the tooth. AT&T rather unexpectedly pulled out all the stops today to rush its 8100 replacement to market today ahead of schedule , offering several enhancements that Sprint and Verizon customers have been enjoying on their 8130s for a few months now: an externally accessible microSD slot, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a refreshed 2 megapixel camera, for starters, but more shockingly, WiFi instead of the GPS found on the 8110 and 8130. The 8120 is available to businessfolk starting today and will run you a shiny new pair of Franklins out the door on contract. • Vodafone's 2008 roadmap gets outed, new BlackBerry included

Filed under: Handsets , RIM , Vodafone , GSM , EDGE , HSDPA , UMTS Boy Genius Report has seemingly scooped up a healthy portion of Voda's '08 roadmap here, and with it a host of unannounced devices from various manufacturers. Here's one we kinda expected at this point: a new BlackBerry previously spotted via a shady eBay auction , once thought to be a member of the upcoming 9000 series but identified here as an "8XXX" -- in other words, either RIM or Voda hasn't quite decided yet how to shoehorn it into the 8000 series lineup. Projected launch (on Voda, anyway -- other carriers may vary) is May of this year, bringing quadband EDGE, triband 3.6Mbps HSDPA, a 480 x 320 display, 2 megapixel cam, GPS, WiFi, and a whoppin' 624MHz core to "senior executives" across the land (Vodafone's words, not ours). These guys are getting better at making slick looking devices with every iteration, are they not? Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
